FIRST IMPRESSIONS NIKON 180-600 LENS FOR WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHY

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

In this video I give my first impressions of the Nikon 180-600 mm zoom lens for wildlife photography. I look at auto focus, build quality and image quality.
I test this lens out which i bought myself at a location in Essex which is great for birds of prey.
Along with my thoughts on the 180-600 mm lens I also take you along on a wildlife shoot on location. there are also lots of images and video footage of buzzards and red kites.

Good video Steve, I have the 180-600 which I have used with the z9 and have found it to be very impressive, not quite up to my 800 pf z lens but does the job sufficiently. Some nice images you captured though.

Thanks very much David, yes I really love this lens already. I find the flexibility of a zoom lens really appealing. The 800pf z is a cracking lens. I might at some stage exchange my 600mm f mount for either the 600mm or 800 z of. Thanks for watching, cheers Steve.

I've not used a zoom lens that doesnt extend since the Lumix 45-175 (90-350) and they are wonderful! I have had a look at Nikon recently as they are highly regarded and have come on leaps and bounds in the last 5 years. I just wish they made some decent APSC cameras and lenses because sadly they arent affordable for me with their FF offerings :(

Hi Joe, yes I absolutely love a zoom lens, they are so flexible. I can see me using this lens a lot. You're right us Nikon users have had to be patient but they have come on leaps and bounds and have a good full frame system now. I think there will be a decent APSC camera at some point. I think the Nikon system is crying out for a mirrorless D500 type offering. Cheers Steve.

Birds in Flight I use the Z8 and 180-600 Lens Like you but at 73 yrs old I find any Tripod/Gimble / Fluid Head is way too slow for Fast Terns and Falcons here in S Africa So I hand hold >> I am a fit 73 so no problem = and perfect results >> Buzzards are slow so no Problem I guess

Yes that makes perfect sense. The Z8 and 180-600 is certainly hand holdable. I mainly use a fluid head for when I'm shooting video. The wildlife photography options must be amazing in South Africa. Thanks for commenting, all the best Steve.

Hi there Steve, guess what ! I bought the 180-600mm 5 weeks ago. It's good. I have the 500mm PF ED VR lens too. I'm loving the 600mm but I need to remember to zoom in sometimes, so used to the 500mm. It goes well with the Z9. Happy days ahead my friend. All the best.

The Nikon Z 180-600 is truly underpriced, I would have gladly paid over $2,000 U.S. dollars for it. If you can find one, please purchase it, the lens and images that it produces are flawless.

I've had this lens for a while now, and agree it's very good. It also works very well with the 2XTC. Something also worth doing if you haven't done it already, is to assign a button to cycle through the focus modes. It's much quicker than having to hold a button while turning the aperture wheel.

I used bird eye detect and either the wide area at or full frame af. Occasionally I also used 3d tracking. Pleased you are getting great results from your Z6II, I used one for wildlife photography for a couple of years. Great for high ISO performance in particular I think. Thanks for watching, all the best Steve.

I tried the 180-600 combined with the Z6II and the lens was ok but the AF on the Z6II was awful. I've shot Nikon for years including the Z6 so I know it's AF inside and out but I was missing shots I'd never miss with my old D500.

Hi Andy, I had the Z6II but I have to say the AF on the Z8 is another level. Coupled with the 180-600mm it's brilliant. I did get good results with the Z6II but the eye detect on the Z8 is a game changer. I haven't tried the Zf but it also has animal eye detect so I'm guessing that will be an improvement over the Z6II. Thanks for watching all the best Steve.

Thanks Steve, just come across this video and really enjoyed it. Last week I was at Gigrin Farm with my Z9 and the Z 180-600 to photograph Red Kites in action and found it an excellent combination. The conditions I was faced with were a little challenging as the weather was rather dreary but the camera / lens combination gave me some excellent results kzread.info/dash/bejne/lp2np6Z9cqSbcqQ.html
