@@pauloaraujo3786 It didn't have "no" defenses. They're just outdated for the size of cargo ships we have these days but would still have worked against majority of boats. Definitely should've been upgraded at some point though to accommodate these larger vessels.

In the media, everything is a race against time or urgent. Talking with those involved it's clear that this is a slow task, and everything needs to be handled with care. These are two completely different views!

Bullshit. This is America. The land of opprutinity. Each vessel that goes through here brings in garaunteed over a million dollars worth of merchandise and materials. The faster they clean it up the faster that port can bring in hujdreds of millions of dollars monthly.

And that is how a news cycle works. Public doesn't give a hoot about the hundreds of ships that float safely in and out of Boston Port. It's the disasters that matter. And then it's onto the next newsy thing. "Racing" to get it done simply means not going to waste time with superfluous cr*p......20 contractor bids...endless sonar scans....waiting for the 'best' weather....

Well obviously they can't say "They're working very slowly and diligently" because to an average consumer it sounds like they're just fucking around doing jack in a time where action needs to be taken. So they say "racing" in relativity, where they're responding fast in relativity rather than fast like a racing car. Use context clues and your own brain for once

It is a very complicated process to remove all of that structural steel, because you have to know where the best place to cut is. If you were to cut a section of steel at the wrong place, it could cause steel, under high tension, to snap! Very slow, dangerous work.
