Wow! You have a much later start than here in Memphis, TN. We started Aug. 8 and finish last week of May. When does your school year end? W have a back to school lower elementary theme, which was space. Each welcome back board is a space theme. The hallway has planets, stars, etc hanging down from the ceiling. It is fun and festive! Your class will be so blessed to have you as a teacher. 😊

This is SO kind, thank you Susan!! Hahaha - my husband keeps wondering why I decided to go back to full-time teaching too instead of still doing what I've been doing, but honestly, I just missed the classroom!! It had been too long since I've had my "own" set of students. I absolutely love sharing and working with teachers too though, so we will see what the future holds!

Hi! I have 33 in my 1st grade class. It is not an ideal number! We started on August 7. I would suggest making sure you practice explicit routines for the first few weeks. We talk about why we are at school in my class and if we can’t get everything done we will have to complete academics during other times such as specials or part of recess. I would also work on trying get them to be independent workers in small groups and have some class token system to support those goals. Good luck and hopefully they give you a Teaching Assistant.
