First game with Georgians (new AoE2 civ!)
Ойындар
Here's a game against the extreme AI that I recorded the first day of my early access to the new Mountain Royals DLC (release date October 31). Georgians are a very fun mix of great defenses with cavalry that are particularly good at poking and prodding the enemy base! Their start is a little tricky, but those fortified churches are something else!
In case you didn't catch it on the screen at the start of the game:
Civ bonuses:
Start with a Mule Cart, but -50 food
Fortifies Churcers provides Villagers in a 10 tile radius with +10% work rate
Units and buildings receive -15% damage when fighting from higher elevation
Cavalry regenerates 5 HP per minute in Feudal, 10 in Castle, 15 in Imperial Age
Unique Unit
Monspa: Georgian unique cavalry that becomes stronger when other Monaspas or Knight-line units are nearby.
Unique Technologies
Svan Towers: Defensive buildings receive +2 attack. Towers fire arrows that pierce multiple units (Castle Age)
Aznauri Cavalry: Cavalry units take 15% less population space (Imperial Age)

i am from georgia and i got in shock when they actually made this DLC
fortified monestary seems pretty busted with no stone cost. I could definitely see georgians being a top 5 civ if that isn't changed. They've got a pretty significant dark age eco benefit in the mule cart, a very strong castle age eco bonus with the fortified monasteries, and a very snowbally military bonus with the regenerating cav. Add a massive resistance to being raided via wood-only fortified monasteries and you've got a pretty potent recipe.

Before the Victors and Vanquished Update, I would’ve laughed my head off with how far off the mark this prediction was. All of this OP stuff and yet a single food nerf in the beginning horrifically cripples the nation.
It feels weird to me that the donkey carts are built by villagers instead of created at the town center.

I felt the same way, but this makes sense from a balancing perspective: You dont want them to compete with creating villagers for TC work time. Additionally, we dont want them to count towards the population limit, and the only other mule in game (that I can think of) is part of a building too. Though this does not register as building visually to me... They do take arson and building bonus damage, right?

On the topic of deer, there were like 5 changes in the last update (September I think?), and one of them was moving deer further from the TC on arabia. It's been a pain for me, but honestly, I see why they did it.
The deer being farther away was a change. Hera really pushed for it to make it more of a sacrifice to push deer.
Khvica Kvaratskhelia will be proud of this DLC.
Hopefully they add West Virginia next. I really want a Mountain Mamma unique unit.

That healing bonus is actually insane!
Hey Spirit, nice vid! Maybe you already know this, but when you're using your scouts to pick off villagers, if you don't put them on stand ground they'll sometimes switch targets because the other unit is closer, which can make it hard to get those villager kills, especially with small numbers
Thanks for the sneak peak!
i'd like to see more of this format. xCiv vs Ai
I must've completely missed this info drop. Glad we got SotL.
Whenever a new civ is introduced, l laugh even more.
Let's goo! finally my country has been added to my favorite game!!
I like the look of the fortified monastery, I REALLY like the castle
Love seeing SotL playing games too. He's usually so eloquent and calm but even he seems on the edge and sometimes confused when playing 11 You can play this game for 20+ years and never even come close to mastering it and that's why it keeps us entertained!
Born in 1990, my father once took me to his office, he was working in kutaisi (georgia) city hall and it was first time i played aoe, i was probably 10 years old, i wondered why i cant choose georgia, why i had to play with another nation😊 it took 23 year after thet georgia appears in aoe, my childish dream came true
I love watching you play. I wish you did more videos like this or against real players.
Theme sounds great.
Really like the look of how the new civs play, starts seem very interesting, especially the starts. Any plans on a vid for a comparison of effectivity of using the mules vs camps? I'd imagine it could add up to quite a lot over time once you factor in walking+build times.
I hope Mongols get Mule Carts. AOE4 mongols always made more sense to me than AOE2 ones, and when they announced AOE4 and I saw how Mongols worked, I was very happy.

Those monastaries seem so good for costing 0 stone
Oh sweet never thought I would see aom carts in aoe2
They line up! They line up! At last!
well played!!
Im sure DauT is happy he doesnt have to push deer anymore! 😂
Great video! Also, I think mule cart being small is kind of a downside? Lumber camp being 2 by 2 is a better drop off point than a 1 tile or 2 (not sure about the mule cart size) more surface area.
I’d almost like to see the first monastery being a wood only cost but every monastery built after that have a stone cost of 50 or something as well. No way they’ll keep a defensive structure like that at only a bit of wood.
The 10% resource bonus for churches sounds cool, but considering you'll only really be able to spam the monasteries in imperial age, and they lack two-man saw and gold shaft mining, you still wind up below a generic economy on 2 major resources (plus farms benefit more from movement speed than from collection speed, so it's pretty minor there). It's less a bonus and more of a "villagers are required to have monasteries nearby or suffer a gathering penalty".
Cool civ, though with recent talks about monk issues these fortified monastaries and the monk focus is going to start some fires.
I would like to see other monk civs with fortified churchs.
they need to add in those incendiary grenade throwers
The cav all in makes you vulnerable to pikes. But you can disengage and heal. Possibly the build needs additional priests or archers to take the pikes out of the equation one way or the other. Archers don't like Cavalier, and Paladin is expensive and doesn't offer speed boosts. So trying to out trade a healing cavalry force is difficult. I suspect the healing will be toned down.
The only thing I don't like about them is the architecture. I feel that the Mediterranean or South European architecture is way overused at this point, and I'd like to see them having a new set of architecture.
@Pacemaker_fgc
7 ай бұрын
Georgians and Armenians have a long tradition of great architecture, would be awesome to see it represented with more than just the unique building although I am happy to get at least one building that represents our history.
I am starting to wonder if the cart will mess things up for nothing maps. Since normally villagers start spreading out once you stop with micro, but now the cart will follow them, making them go in a straight line(?) since they just pick the nearest tree.
I think the mule cart will be great in the early stages of the game, however i expect it to be a liability later, because then it is just a raidable lumbercamp.
Floating that many wood despite all those farms in Feudal? Those carts are _efficient._
I asee an issue where you would use your lumber camp or mining camp as part of your small walls to keep out militia or MAA.
Why did you say Saracens are going to feel different in the intro? Are there some balance changes we don't know about yet?
Georgia, georgia on my mind
Hey SOTL, can you do a break down on if the Georgians eco tech fortified church works on ALLY eco?
Just to be clear, do the monasteries shoot arrows when not garrisoned? Because that seems to be a point of contention and quite a big factor into their effectiveness
So, both Armenians and Georgians will be fragile to drush, since mule cart is mobile, so you cant wall your woodline like with standart lumbermill
As an Aoe$ player, is very funny how the farm placement works in AoE2, looks extremely chaotic. Georgians looking nice.
The deer on Arabia were moved further away on a patch a few months ago I think
As a Georgian, I can confirm that I do actually slowly heal over time.
Hera will bei a beast with healing Scouts
Could the cart have lost the interest in trees when you gave it the new task of researching?
Does the mule cart allow you to gather deer? Considering it has been spawning far, wouldn't it be nice to send 3 vils and the cart instead of pushing (and just delay wood)?
I think each monastry should have a separate upgrade to keep button which costs some res like stone(no research time tho) because for 200 wood it has way too many functionalities and op
Hey Spirit, I've noticed in the videos of you playing you don't use small trees. What's the reason for that?
I guess a better balance for the church is to let them cost a little bit stone expect the first one or two. Unless it seems get too much value out of that 200 wood.
Damn I forgot that people can struggle against the AI, ggs tho!
Why didn't you researched loom at the beginning to compensate for the lack of food?
I think guttural is the throat and glottal is the (back of the) mouth? I'm not sure either 11
Since you have a mule cart, could you potentially go to deer first?
Will you play with the Armenians too?
On the minimap the AI built an angry face
Will there be gameplay with Armenians and Persians?
Spirit for lower Elo players who will probably get loom straight away you won't have as much issue with the initial food deficit as it's only a second or two out with the force drop off
@why_wait
7 ай бұрын
Think you can justify sending the cart to the deer to help the initial food problems
We want SOTL live!! ❤
SOTL I have a really burning question that I feel only you can answer... Are Mule Carts units or buildings?
Maybe instead of farms once your sheep are done you can take those vills hunting with a cart. they're kinda far but I think it would be an efficient food income and that way you can comfortably delay farms until horse collar
What happens in the following scenarios: 1) if your scout takes damage, but then it heals up to full HP, then you buy bloodlines, does it go from 45 to 65 HP or stay at 45HP as it has already been hurt? 2) if your scout takes damage, you buy bloodlines, then it heals up to full HP?
