.
. Join us on Sienna's first flight lesson. She's a student pilot working on her private pilot flight training here at Angle of Attack. She recently got the bug, when she did a Discovery Flight. Now she wants to be a pilot.
So here we are. We're in the Cessna 172 that our flight school has, and we're happy to be flying. We'll be trying to do a lesson a week, which is pretty decent.
You can imagine when doing flight lessons, that it's kinda nerve wracking. Everything is new with the airplane, things are kinda different, and it's just a whole new world. That can be intimidating. While it's like drinking from the firehose, it's still a really neat experience. Sienna seems to be having a great time doing it.
For those wondering, Annalynn (famous from here solo video on our channel) is a commercial pilot, and working on her CFI! So she's observing from the back.

Done, This vid was so good for me. You have a great teaching manner and I imagine this will bring on a lot of new aviators. I'm 55 and only flown once, about 20yrs ago in a low wing twin engine aircraft (crazy story). Wish that i'd took lessons after that, if I ever did go for lessons i would hope that my instructor was as plesant and calm as you. Mark. England.

I would want you as a flight instructor. I've seen a lot of flight training vids and some of the instructors are so impatient and borderline rude. I wouldn't be able to handle an instructor like that. There are a lot of great instructors also, like yourself, who are down to earth, personable and friendly. Thank you for being one of the great ones.

"No known traffic" (or anything else ATC says which gives you permission to take-off) means it's YOUR responsibility (as the pilot) to make sure the runway, base & final approach, and the sky above the runway are clear of traffic.

Hi there, I’m only a simulator pilot but what I really liked on the lesson is that you made clear that the airplane can fly itself, and how it reacts at low (stall) speed and recovers itself. That makes the student pilot feel safe, giving confidence and trust in the airplane. I can’t imagine a more important lesson at the beginning! 👍

I bet every flight instructor probably does things a little different, but in the end that day when we taxi off to the ramp and he gets out and your on your own, I learned at a busy airport, with airlines coming in and out. Got to learn radio techniques real quick. I couldn't move the airplane much without calling ground or clearance delivery to file a flight plan.

Very good video. I took 1 flight lesson in a tail dragger at 18 year of age. As I remember, none of the gauges worked, gas gauge was a red rag tied to a wire sticking out of the cowl. To level the flight, you had to level the wings with the horizon. The lesson lasted one hour and I never went back. This is one of my regrets in life. I am now scaring 72 years old. I did get into motorcycles. I have ridden to all lower 48 states on my Harley from Texas. Took 2 trips to get it done.

I remember my very first flying lesson! Stapleton airport spring of 1966 and 16 years old with my flight instructor in a 1964 C-150 super excited and attentive. Walk-around inspection, introduction to the instrument panel, radio, start procedure, ground control, and a very long taxi out to runway 17. Runup, mag, and mixture check, call the tower, and a step-by-step procedure monitoring engine rpm, airspeed, and then liftoff. Basic flight maneuvers in the practice area, call approach, and land on runway 26R. An hour and ten-minute flight that seemed like thirty seconds Soloed in seven hours, Private License two weeks after my 17th birthday! Thousands of hours ago...

Excellent teacher. I flew with an instructor and a mechanic at a Cessna dealership and flight school. We were on a test flight in a 172. The instructor let the mechanic fly and try to land the aircraft. Now this was back in 1971. Befor any LCD instrument screens, Wi-Fi, or any of that modern day instrumentation. As we approached the runway to land the mechanic hit the tail hook on the pavement 3 times befor the instructor took over. The instructor never gave any info like you did in this video. I did not know landing was that simple and easy. The plane was landing itself.

Well, I’m not a “Master Instructor” but I can see why you are. In one flight, you taught her: how to start the airplane, taxi, attitudes and movements, straight and level, climbs, descents, coordinated turns, slow flight, stalls, how the trim works and she did the takeoff and landing all while there was a passenger onboard… I say 2-3 more flights and she’s ready for flight test! Like I said, I’m not a “Master Instructor”; I’m just a Class 1 instructor here in Canada. I teach commercial pilots how to become instructors! BTW, the sole purpose of the trim is to relieve the pressure off of the controls and yes, it is possible to set the trim by feel only.

What an awesome place and crew to learn. Your channel as given me the motivation to get into flying and I will be contacting flight schools shortly, but unfortunately I'm near Ottawa. If only I was closer to your school. Keep the good content coming. Cheers!

Dear AoT, I am a prv pilot with about 500 hrs. This is a great video, it brings back many momories for me. I remember doing T and gos, and stalls power on and power off, turns about a point and many, many others. I used to fly out of Akron Canton Airport and had the time of my life. I sence had a stroke which endded my flying dreams of becoming an Airline Pilot, but I love airplanes and the teachers that train. Thank you kindly for bring back the memories.

Hello, im a freshman student at usu and in reality I was doubting myself about becoming a pilot. I’ve been studying my senior year of Highschool but I just had a lot of doubt. When I look at this channel I realized that it looks so amazing to learn how to fly a plane and I wanna work hard for it. I learned about how when you make trims that it relieves the control pressure when the altitude has been changed. I want to be a pilot and I’m going to keep watching your videos cause it amazes me how cool it is to fly.
