After a fantastic experience being measured for a double bespoke commission by two legendary tailors John Kent and Terry Haste, of Kent, Haste & Lachter, it is finally time for the first fittings.
In today's video, watch Kirby go through the first fitting with each tailor, as they begin to check their suit patterns against the fit. The first fitting is really more for the tailors than it is the client. At this stage, everything is just being checked. The suit is only at a basted stage, so all of the stitching can be ripped out and the suit disassembled and adjusted.

Speaking as a Londoner, John and terry are great ambassadors for the city. They’re honest, highly skilled, warm with a easy manner and a good dash of humour. Well spoken and articulate, but not posh, and clearly strive to provide a top-notch service. This is a great mini-series.

@@fifi_198 Excellent. I had a second fitting on 27th Feb and then collected on the Tues 12th March just gone. The entire team is exactly as they are on KZread; great banter in the shop (banter is British for laughing and knockabout humour) and hugely professional. The beauty is the invisible stuff; hand sewn button holes, beautiful hand work inside the trousers that only the customer will ever see. They have seen every body shape so one must follow their advice; they know exactly what is correct for your body. I recommend them 100%. Worth every penny.

@@fifi_198 It was excellent. Obviously at the first fitting they only fit approximately. At the second fitting two weeks later those problems have been sorted out. Two weeks after that was the third fitting/collection. That is obviously what you’re paying for with bespoke. I collected them at the third fitting; although I could have had another fitting if desired/needed. Apologies for not answering sooner. Btw…£1350 and worth every penny. I had a 13/14 ounce plain dark grey wool worsted, button fly, side pockets, two pleats and standard 1 3/4 “ turn-ups. The hand work is incredible; mostly invisible to the public; hand sewn button holes as an instance; only you know it’s there. The team there are fantastic; utterly professional, the repartee is biting, ironic; tinged with good humoured sarcasm…..exactly as you see with Kirby…..🇬🇧

Simon has become a "Rock Star" pn You Tube as his atelier was the one who made Kirby"s three piece hunting suit. With the British pound way down against rhe dollar Simon and company can make a beautiful Super 130 suit for you for just over $5000. Yes, irs a little money but they are a lot less expensive then other Savile Row tailors and they come to New York three times a year. Their next visit is in February and I plan to see them than as well to move my suit fabrication along. Maybe you should strive to see them then. Watching John and Terry play off each other reminds me of the Tappet Brothers from the old Car Talk show. John has no internal monologue so he voices everything thought he has and Jerry is the straight laced guy that sits back until he needs to step in and get things back on track. If someone ever makes animated shorts showing traditional professions to kids these are the 2 for the tailor episode.

Well done! The video is both entertaining and educational. Terry's jacket looks fantastic but it will be skin tight at the upper back. Hopefully, it will allow you to move your arms enough to be able to enjoy a cigar, drive a car, etc.

Great video Kirby, but I love how your shirt fits you so clean especially in the back.

“Agreeing with each other is boring and you’re giving in”….. Very important words and more people need to understand healthy disagreement is good and drives a better outcome. We all don’t have to agree to respect each other. Or my dad used to say, any old dead fish can float down river. Swim against the current and be heard.

Our friend John is obviously very talented, and he took pains to tell you... "We aim to get the first fitting...how we've communicated." and went on to say, "We get our first fittings pretty well on the money." Based on the next 30 minutes, I couldn't help but wonder as to the effectiveness of your first communication. It must have been easier to draft the plans for the Eiffel Tower.

I gained a bit of weight after the initial measurements… which complicated the fitting! 😅

@@kirbyallison Oh.....I'm tongue-in-cheek in my remarks anyway. This just illustrates the fact all that we see before us in these videos is being done by hand....not by a machine. Their attention to detail is admirable, and inspiring.

That was one of the most interesting videos that I have watched for a while. All three craftspeople show a great professional manner, being polite, courteous and a sense of humour when appropriate. It's amazing seeing their vision of the finished article at that stage. Do we get to see the finished article Kirby?

35:20 Fox Brothers call it "Char-Brown". I plan on getting a 3 piece suit made of it.
