First Fire Up of a 1954 Triumph T110 Tiger; Vintage AHRMA Landspeed El Mirage Bonneville 650 Amal TT

I know you guys are itching for more roadster videos, and I want to provide them for you, but the sad truth is that I’ve been working long hours, and then spinning wrenches on boring stuff in my free time. There just hasn’t been anything “worthy” to film for y’all.
So, to wet your whistles, here’s another flashback video from August of 2016…
My best friend built this beautiful time-capsule of a machine with the intention of putting his other pal on it; a guy who just happened to hold the title of “World’s Fastest” for the better part of two decades. The plan was for him to set another (minor) record, and film the effort…for posterity. Unfortunately, my friend passed away before the dream could be realized. But here we are flashing up his amazing racing Triumph for the first time 8 months after his passing.
This 1954 Triumph “Tiger” T110 sure sounds mean, thanks to high compression pistons and a pair of Harmon & Collins 7229 Drag Cams, breathing through an Amal TT carb and megaphone exhaust. And this bike did ultimately set a record at El Mirage. A documentary on the effort should still be forthcoming.
Thanks for watching this week!

in my humble opinion that fantastic bike deserves to be as most as possible in his original form, the handlebar, exhaust, seat, etc...

Well, the bike was found as a main frame section and crankcase at the swap meet, and then the rest of the parts were slowly acquired over a couple of years scouring. I only say that to highlight the fact that this was not a complete bike that was modified; rather a collection of orphaned parts turned into something beautiful. And everything about this thing is exactly as it would have been done in the period, which is exactly as my friend liked to build them. Many of his builds have fooled experts, appearing as “as raced” restorations, rather than carefully assembled “basket cases”. And he was a quite successful AHRMA racer, so most of the machines were built for that purpose.

I really want to get this bike back so I can have it for the street. It’s the last thing I sat and watched my dad build.

Yeah…I bet that makes it kind of extra special. I know Jess has kept all of the parts (carefully) together to put it back into street trim. And I’m the meantime he has made it go even faster. There’s a lot that has gone sideways since your dad’s been gone, but I think he’s had some influence on this project. And eventually that bike will be back with you. You ever reach out to Jess and see what’s going on? He bugs me every once in a while. I know he misses everyone.

Thanks Ron! Glad you enjoyed it. I’m trying to take a little break, but keep a weekly post happening to “sort of” appease the algorithm. Hahaha! I’m not sure whether or not it’s working, but it is what it is. 😊👍🏼👍🏼🍻🍻🍹🍹😂😊🙄😳🤷‍♂️
