2:23 As a ride op I can confirm that the main reason rides go down for weather especially tall coasters isnt rain, it's actually lightning. At that height these rides basically act as lightning rods (not the coaster at dollywood) so closing them is ideal, especially since they are mostly made of steel, and electricity travels easily through metal.

  • @CoasterDash

    @CoasterDash

    Жыл бұрын

That makes sense, though there wasn’t any lightning anywhere close. The rides closed once the rain begun and closed once it disappeared.

@@CoasterDash I bet SFGAM has a radar set up at the park somewhere backstage to detect where lightning strikes. At the park I work at, some rides can go down if there's lightning within 15 miles of the park, so maybe it was that far away the whole time and not closer.

@@1BillionMarbles Yes. As a former employee, I can confirm they have a weather monitoring system. It's accessible only to Operations (rides and park services) and Security. The only reason all rides would be closed for light drizzling is, in fact, lightning.

Awesome vid. SFGA reminds me of Cedar Point in Variety and quality, but like the ride times are kinda quick compared to Cedar Point's machines. With the location of this park to Michigan's Adventure, I'd love to see each one get a coaster that doesn't exist at Cedar Point, like a secret collaboration if you will. If one gets a single-track RMC, the other gets a surf coaster or a Mack Spinner. By doing this, families and enthusiasts could add both of these parks to their Midwest coaster trip. An RMC Raptor plus Shivering Timbers would be a great one-two punch before you go to Chicago for the night to party or catch a Cubs Sportsball game the same night, wake up the next day, travel 40 minutes or less and Six Flags is yours! Both parks profit, people have great trips that inspire others to have a great trip. Win Win

I'm glad you got to experience Maxx Force in the front row. I was on the 2nd train on Media Day and was very impressed, but Six Flags seems to have a hard time keeping this thing open. During the past few years, it's been closed almost every time I've visited even on days with decent weather, and this is my home park. If the model was more reliable, I think we'd see more of these at other parks, and perhaps an Axis coaster in the USA by now. That said, Maxx Force has perhaps the best launch on any coaster I've experienced. The only things that might exceed it are Top Thrill Dragster (RIP...ish) and Kingda Ka. Also, the swing launch on Pantheon gives it a run for it's money, as you actually feel ejector airtime on that thing where as the slight hop in to the first inversion on Maxx Force offers almost none.

We did this park last year. Friday in July with no flash pass, but lucky with really light crowds. Did every coaster 1x and then 2x on Viper and Maxx Force, 3x on RB, and 5x on Goliath. We have the diamond, so got to do a 1x flash pass for MF and used the single rider line on the other. I don’t think we waited more than 15-20mins all day. It’s a very well rounded collection and an upper tier park. They do not have any elite rides and often they have lower to mid tier examples of each model, but the depth made it a great park. MF got me with that launch pretty good. RB had some good drops, just wish the twister stuff was a bit more whippy. Goliath was great, as is any RMC and actually more intense than most, but was definitely needing some additional duration. The surprise of the trip for us was Viper. Back row with a ton of room and we were getting crazy standing airtime. It was a top 5 woodie for me and while not the best ride in the park, was the highlight based on expectations.

I love American Eagle. I hope that they bring in GCI or the Gravity Group to renovate it. If they do that they'll probably keep the old PTC trains to use for parts on the trains for Little Dipper and Viper. Did you go on Little Dipper? That is another ACE landmark. It used to be at a local amusement park called Kiddieland until that park closed in 2009. Great America bought it to keep it from the scrap pile. I always have to ride the carousel too. You get some nice views from the upper deck and you can't ride a carousel without feeling like a kid again.

I haven't been to Six Flags Great America in well over 2 decades. I really miss it too. The 🎢🎢rollercoasters🎢🎢🎢 at Six Flags were always great. I remember some of the older now "retired" coasters. Shock Wave, Z-Force, Iron Wolf, Tidal Wave, plus a few more I can't remember. Another ride now gone was the Space Shuttle ride called the Power Dive. There was also a Bobsledding type of ride as well, also gone. I can't remember the name of it. I lived in Milwaukee during this time and we'd hit Six Flags at least once a month, sometimes twice, depending on 💸💰money💰💸 and schedules. There were a couple of years where a friend of mine worked there and we'd ride down there with him and he'd get us in for free. The first summer it was insane. We went close to two to three times a week. There were some days when it was cool outside or rainy, the park was very quiet, and some coasters had zero wait times. We we able to ride the Eagle, the Demon, and the Whizzer multiple times. The person running the ride would say over the intercom, of there is nobody waiting in your car's line you can stay on and ride again. It easily was the most incredible experience we had at Six Flags. When Batman came out it was insane. The lines were 3-4 hours long! I had taken my nephew there and we finally got to the ride. We were first for the next car. He told us to go to the back. I asked PLEASE it's our first time, could we get the first car. My nephew said nooo, but I convinced him and the attendant let us in the first row and it was so special, incredible, amazing, and so fun. As you said the length of the rides aren't long. Batman was short, but the adrenalin and excitement makes up for it. It was epic, and a epic day! Thanks for sharing your experience and adventure. Since those days my health has deteriorated quite a bit. I'll probably never see Six Flags again, but the memories I have are so special and wonderful. Take care and God Bless.

Great video as always. Glad you got to experience SFGAm, my favorite park in the chain. And Raging Bull is by far my favorite B&M hyper. I much prefer the twister layout over airtime, which is overrated. Rides like Diamondback at KI and Goliath at SFOG just bore me.

Hey there, Definitely ride Maxx Force right at open and right at close. Flash Pass will be a worthy investment and will save you a ton of time. Maxx Force is best in the front, Raging Bull is by far best in the VERY back, and Goliath is best in the back too. Ride operators will be happy to honor row requests if you ask nicely :)

It's the Kings Island of Six Flags. It more stands out for general overall quality, park appearance and varied ride collection. I still prefer Magic Mountain and Fiesta Texas because Magic Mountain's coaster collection is just that good and Fiesta Texas is such a great experience with great theming and atmosphere, but Great America is third best in the chain for me. For similar reasons I prefer Cedar Point and Knott's Berry Farm over Kings Island though I recognize that KI is also an overall great park.

I actually prefer Maxx Force in the last row. It`s more intense back there to me. Also, ACE confirmed the launch to be 0-78 mph in 1.7 seconds. Of the two RMCs I`ve ridden-Goliath and Outlaw Run- I prefer Goliath. It`s elements feel more powerful to me even though Outlaw Run has more elements. But everyone`s opinions will vary and that`s what makes this hobby so great!

For me it doesnt matter the ride, i want to be as far behind the center of gravity as possible. Cuz even on maxx force once im at the top of the hill, i wanna feel like im being yanked down

I agree! Raging Bull is great! I actually prefer how it isn't only airtime, it mixes it up so you get a variety of forces! and unlike most "top tier" hypers, the end of ride airtime moments are actually quality. I grew up hearing lots of people call it "Raging Bore" and Im so glad that nowadays... virtually nobody that rides it says anything near that sentiment. Also Python is the park's unsung hero imo. And you're right. this midwest region has an ungodly amount of wing coasters lol I remember when they were still the hot new thing, once we hit like mid to late 2010s being like "wait... somehow I've ridden like all of the B&M wing coasters in the whole US XD" And I agree, Goliath has one of the best Zero G stall. i dont understand why few of the newer ones end up with as great of a stall. They'll last very short, or the twist the wrong way which forces an earlier twist out of it. (wildcat shouldve twisted clockwise so it could twist out later into the right hand turn)

Ah damn…missed you by a day, brother. My homie and I were there yesterday 😅 EDIT: Also, I’ve gotten hail/snow/rain rides at SFGAm, so I’m surprised a light drizzle closed all the rides down 🤔 EDIT: AE debuted in 1981. And the back is way better than the front. And the red side is worlds better than the blue side and they run only one side per year. EDIT: Did you get a ride on the OG Batman? Thoughts?

It seems that with a flash pass the park could be done in one day and all the major rides and coasters could be done, did it feel that way or did you have to rush around? I'm planning a trip this summer

It was pretty easy with Flash Pass, though it doesn’t work with Maxx Force, so ride it directly after park open and just before park close as well.

Great America is awesome that wether delay sucks though I went years ago and the wether delay never affected me kinda weird that happened … X Flight when it was new used to be much smoother the rattle has gotten worse since… Me personally I also think Ranging bull is my personal favorite at the park but that doesn’t mean Goliath isn’t awesome..
