First EVER 2 stroke powered Harley-Davidson(Engine Swap)

Ойын-сауық

We just built the craziest Harley-Davidson with a 2 stroke dirt bike engine! The 2 stroke engine we used is not a normal engine, it's out of the legendary Honda CR500! The Honda CR500 is one of the fastest dirt bikes ever! This might be the fastest Harley-Davidson 883R ever!

Harley Davidson was owned by AMF for a time, and you can still find two stroke AMF Harley-Davidson dirt bikes. I owned two of these bikes. A 125cc And a 175cc They were enduro bikes. With blinkers and lights.

My 1968 XLCH could be difficult to start when warm. Cold, it was 1 to 3 kicks. Often just one. A tap on the starter button and my '88 XL 883 ant it always started. Rattles apart? On my '68 the mirror fell off. It was a tiny bicycle unit just to comply with the law. Nothing ever fell off the newer one. And I commuted to work on them, year around in Southern California.

Have a 1979 harley davidson flh and a 1993 Electra glide classic . They have been the most durable and reliable bikes I have ever owned. The 1979 has 86,000 miles and the 1993 has almost 120,000 . plus older Harley Davidson's are simple easy to work on and rebuildable if need be . I don't get why people say Harleys are not reliable, obviously they have never owned one.

Yeah, watching the other guys try to kick it, they clearly haven't been tutored in the very particular big-bore 2-stroke starting ritual. Kicking it a lot of times doesn't count for anything - you have to get the piston to the right place, reset the starter back to the top, and then put everything you have into that one kick. If it doesn't work you do that again. What they were doing, you can get away with on a 250, but it doesn't cut the mustard on 400cc+

Totally agree.....the pre ride technique is inacted before ever starting it...and if u dont get it to fire within a few kicks....ur better off just waiting a bit and possibly put a new plug in but just kickin and kicking again and again is pretty waste of energy....since most likely wont have it at top dead center wvery time u rapidly kick it and starting from tdc is a must to get a long solid kick in that spins the motor a few cycles priming it.in the process....and then give it no gas when starting and havr card set that way...and a dirry or worn out carb is worthless on a 500...carburations gotta be precise and float height must be set and have spotless pilot and main jets......

Who's to say a seal didn't give way causing a massive vacumm leak just before catastrophe? Sure, you'll get some extra oily suit build up in the pipe, but with a street bike where peak performance isn't needed throughout the entire ride, that's hardly an Issue.
