I just don't understand how the people at Volkswagen SA think, they'd rather add another SUV to their range instead of bringing the Saveiro here. Now THAT is a small pick up that'd sell like hot cakes! Its better than the NP200 and the Chev Utility

I'm not a big fan of Vw's recent design signature (the new polo springs into mind) but I really like how this looks and that paint scheme is fantastic Brilliant review ciro!

The small engines are light on petrol until you start pushing them. Then you suffer and it's working hard.

This is an evolution of the concept started with the Cross Polo, so it's not really VW's first entry into the segment.

Every car with up-to-date tech gets decontented for the SA market. Not a problem in most cases, but in the Toyota C-HR not having a back-up camera is a safety hazard.

This and the Mazda CX3 must be the best looking in this class.

Good day kindly note the entry level for the VW T - Cross is a manual gear box what i dont understand the car critic confirmed that he is driving the DSG ( Direct Shift Gear box ) some say Dual Clutch however i noticed that towards the end of the review he was sitting in front drivers seat showing the manual gear box was this a mistake on review which would have confused the potential buyers?

I wonder if I'll get that here in Trinidad

I like vw but I hate the way they advertise "options". You can use their web site to build your dream model with the options you want, but go to the dealership and you will be met with disappoint. You will have to compromise something to get an option you want or pay more for another option you don't want because that's the car rolling of the production line. (Well that's what it like here in South Africa) I just purchased a new polo Gti and had to pay a lot more for options I did not want to get the options that I did want. I basically got it with all the options, it was only missing the cheapest option.....the folding door mirrors.....yeah stupid Ik. I just hate the way vw and journalists say "with a choice of options" when the truth is always a compromise and you get a car that has 60% of the options you want and 40% of those you don't and visa versa. I challenge you guys since you South African. Go to vw and choose some options you want (a polo Gti/golf Gti/Tiguan, for example) see if you can get them to give you an exact model with everything you want and nothing you don't want. Good luck lol (obviously this applies to top of range models). Vw fuel consumption figures are a joke. The standard base new polo has a 5.0L per 100km claimed by vw, but realistically it runs at about 6.5 to 7L per 100km, because normal people don't ride around town at 40kph @ 1000rpm in Eco mode.

Hi there; unfortunately the dealers are limited to what is available off the production line and not everybody has what every client wants. You would have had to pay a lot more bec that is the only model available with close enough spec. If that was the case where you can get what you want, every person would have to walk in, spec their car the way they want it and wait months. This would take months and years for every person to then get exactly what they want bec the business model/production model isn't prepared for it. There is actually an option to order it from the dealer directly. They will use this as an allocation order and custom build your car. If you are in a rush though you will have to take what you can get. If you think realistically about it though it doesn't make sense to stock every car EXACTLY the way every person would want it bec tastes differ. somebody will always come short.

Good day going forward i purchased the VW T - Cross standard DSG ( Direct shift gear box ) other say dual clutch the value for your money for me was the best small SUV crossover from the Polo which to my amazement still had the luxuries for example the safety features 4 disc brakes all round , emergency braking , cruise control , & so much more i actually bought the car when it was launched in South Africa i must say VW Hatfield Rivonia Dealership was excellent i wanted a pure white Demo Model to avoid paying 18% tax over & above which would have been R334,600 however the Sales executive did advise that they may not receive a pure white which is more visible at night after negotiation the Dealer gave me a discount of over R17,000. wow that certainly was a bargain as i paid majority as a cash deposit the car as the Automatic is so smooth that the car chooses to drive in 7th gear to save on fuel the unfortunately new car sales have gone sky high as the same standard spec is R399, 000 lates t update which is so crazy in all i am so happy i purchase the car in 2019 understanding that due to Covid the same spec price has increased dramatically

2:13 the 1.5l petrol is actually a 4 cylinder engine, not a 3 cylinder.

Too bad VWSA has never given us that sweet sweet 1.5 liter engine, good power and efficiency!

The US never got the Polo, none of the generations, but it is rumored that the US "may" get the T-Cross. I am amused by some of the comments here, especially the ones concerning the pricing/option strategy. Here in the US, the biggest gripes potential VW customers have had had to do with the pricing of the powertrain/models. That is, stupid high prices for cars with small displacement engines versus their Japanese rivals. Compared with all the Japanese brands, VW in the US have very inept product planners. The next biggest gripe, and apparently it doesn't exist in South Africa (?) is the lackluster reputation the dealers have. The buying experience is lousy and the servicing is haphazard and extremely expensive.

Mgoblagulkablong For those that are asking , it’s the best gearbox you’ll ever get , and if you can afford to change cars fast enough to always have warranty , but those gearbox’s start shitting out 40K KM and cost R30 000+

Hi Ciro kindly note the VW T - Cross is a direct shift gear box ( DSG ) this car has no dual clutch the AUDI A4 has the Multi tronic gear which is dual clutch so get you facts right before reviewing!!!

Did they create this cos the T Roc didn't exactly take off?

Greetings from Bergvliet, Cape Town.I think R300000 is quite steep from an average buyers point of view. In terms of transmitions, straight-forward manual all the way! If I want something that is high off the ground I would rather take either a bakkie like the Isuzu Kb or a kombi like the Caravelle. The only SUV I would buy is a Land Rover Discovery.

Furthermore Ciro the car critic mentioned that the manufactures of the VW T CROSS on his review claim that most small SUV 1.3 CYLINDER are not reliable when it comes to engine sizes firstly the car critic is not a mechanic why would the manufactures then build them the so called car critics are mostly incorrect & i think they should re think there views or as they review only they are not manufacturers

Hi there, the T-Cross is much smaller than the Tiguan and is based on the Polo, while the Tiguan is based on the Golf platform.

5.8 per 100km... I have a vw polo 6 1.4 and i'm averaging around 4.5/100km

This is a 1 litre turbo petrol on a crossover chassis so that's a good fuel consumption considering the above mentioned facts. What I can say is you are a good driver and your car will definitely last you longer

Highly overpriced products and very expensive to run out of plan .

I'm sorry, this car has many flaws. Don't get me wrong it's good, but, software issues all around, the gearbox is dumb and doesn't know what it wants to do and sitting in traffic with it.. let's say say jerky, the infotainment system is really slow.Argh not worth the money. Many features but all just gimmicks.
