First Day Chemo + Stage 4 Survival Numbers

First day of chemo was in-house, so they could observe me (it went well!). Future courses will happen every 2 weeks, and I'll be wearing a chemo pump at home on a fanny pack for 2 days of that 2 week period.
4 different meds for nausea (!)...let's see if that becomes a thing.
And, for my diagnosis (colorectal cancer), the 5-year survival rate is: 15%
Not reassuring, but remember -- that's for EVERYONE with this diagnosis. The 70-80 yr olds, those who are obese, sedentary, have diabetes & heart disease.
Since I'm relatively healthy (otherwise), I'm betting my odds are significantly better...but let's see :)

Hey Doc, my wife was diagnosed with stage 4 esophageal cancer metastasized to liver at 35. She was given 12 months with treatment however, targeted treatment (her2+), chemotherapy and high dose radiotherapy on liver, complete change of diet, sugar/dairy/meat free, she has no evidence of disease 15 years later and no reoccurrence after nearly 2 years of initial treatment. She is fit and strong and her attitude didn’t waiver once that she would not beat this thing. If it reoccurs then she’s beat it again. It’s tough and scary as hell but you will kick this in to touch. Rooting for you in Ireland 🇮🇪

Hello mate. Ive got stage 4 bowel cancer tumour in sigmoid colon and had a stoma done. Also have metastasis on my liver 1 on each segment. Im on panitumumab,Irinotecan and 5fu Flouracil which I go home with for 46 hours. Im now on 3 weekly treatments. I had to have an iron infusion back in March. My cea level in Jan was 799 its now 4. Not been given a survival rate. Just keeping everything crossed I can get 5 years plus.

Great question, and I asked about that, Andrea. My oncologist says that different types of cancer have different treatment options -- both in the types of meds they use, and frequency they're given. One of my patients has stage 3 breast cancer, for example, and she is doing her chemo infusions every week, and spending 3 hours in-office while those are administered. Also she doesn't have the take-home pump that I use to self-administer. It sounds to me like they customize the regimen based on a variety of factors.
