First Dangerous/High Risk/Deadly Tree Felling

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This one made me apprehensive, my first time doing anything like it. outer 1/3 of the whole tree was completely riddled with large black ants. Had to go digging just to find so wood sturdy enough to use to fell it.

I worked for a startup tree guy when I was 24 as a side job. I was youing and fit, and climbed like a monkey to tie off guy lines. He kept getting hammered at the job site by customers that said it was too quick and easy and they were not paying the contract price. then, on the next job he used my advice....read on .....on this job, the customer decided to save money, we would fell the trees and he would do the cleanup (for burning himself in winter). We had the trees mostly down in less than an hour. the customer said "I am not paying this kind of money for an hours work!." My boss then used my advice and said "Save some more money then, drop the last two yourself." He offered the guy the saw, and he declined. He then still wanted an itemized explanation for the "high" bill - my input - "travel 12 dollars. Insurance about 29 dollars. Dropping trees for an hour $75.00. Knowing how to do it with years experience - $1,000.00. Customer satisfied, especially after being offered the saw.!

This tree had almost zero holding wood. Which is why it was so dangerous. Holding wood is what holds the tree to the stump. Sometimes you get center rot and the only thing you have keeping the tree from falling is maybe a couple inches of good wood behind the bark so you have to be extremely careful. Great job

No damage or injuries, sure scared the hell outta me though.

Tree down and all safe so definitely a good fall. I think you mentioned climbing the oak to untangle some limbs but didn't. Safety first but I think you you coulda got in there BUT safety first so no real harm. One way I test rot is to make a verticle plunge cut inline with your lay (perpendicular to face and back cut.) Watch the chips and feel when the saw hits good wood or a hollow spot. Thanks for letting us watch you learn. Saw in another video you're laid up... hope the healing goes fast and well.

Hey! That looks like a good tree to fall out of. On Halloween, wearing a ninja suite, and making bets with the neighborhood kids. Yep! Hitting every branch on the way down, is more fun than even I can bargain for. Especially since you only get one or two chances to grab those first couple of branches you hit. Anything beyond that and you are ether disoriented, hurting, or barely conscious to much more than bump around. Now thats a broke limbs hospital good time there.

  • @kyleboman6

I would like to note that the 5 to 1 is backwards. You should have your pull end pulling away from the tree. Second you should always have your guys 1 and a half times the height of the tree away or more. I say this cause our company just had someone die cause he didn't follow this policy. Not trying to down you, just trying to give a little advice from experience. Sorry if it came out wrong

No worries. Another tip that we use that might be of some use is. We use a port a wrap to tie off to the tree, then we hook the 5 to 1 to the port a wrap. Then we use a prussik at the other end of the 5 to 1 attached to the pull line. Whatever we capture with the 5 to 1 with the pull rope gets captured on the part a wrap with 6 wraps and a lock off. That way the guys can walk away in most cases and be out of the fell zone.

  • @canadiantree2174

    @canadiantree2174

Its refereed to as 'positive and negative rigging', whether your pulling towards or away from the tree. Its not right or wrong to do it either way, its a time and place thing. The prussic on the 5:1 or any advantage is called a 'progress capture'. A proper cord will hold 6000lbs static before slipping. fun fact and stay safe!

I have watched many of your videos so I do respect your personal skill level, especially being wise and calculating in each tree you tackle. I really don't know anything about'em, wranglerstar here on youtube has some great information on axes though, I'd recommend checking out his channel.

I was asking TreeSavage since he mentioned you need a real one. I have some axes but haven't found the right combination of heavy head with good sized poll for the wedges and shorter handle for portability. Really enjoying your videos, your doing great, stay safe.

Mr42960 Thanks much =) When you find the right axe for yourself, let me know what you went with and why, curious.

    How is this more deadly

If that’s a deadly tree I should start filming my removals.. still a safe job well done sir. It’s good to see other professionals. Usually never see PPE either 👍 p.s. if you held the right side of your back cut a bit more you’d have cleared the other tree. I know it’s pine and not very strong esp when dead but you’d be surprised how much a extra inch of meat would have made.

I only started watching your videos tonight but that seemed like the least dangerous thing you've done. Hanging from a tree seems much riskier especial you bring you D game, lol.

lol, yeah, it doesn't look as dangerous. Dead trees can be very tricky though, as the wood decays/rots, it loses strength, and you often can't see just how far gone it actually is. As backwards as it seems, climbing a live tree is much safer than anything with a dead and decayed tree.

Im a bit late to comment here but around the time this was filmed I also had to cut down a dead tree. I did everything like I normally would. as soon as the tree started to fall it snapped into like 5 or 6 different sections same as the one he cut down in the video. only the tree I was cutting didn't fall away from me It fell like the twin towers. straight down on top of itself. Luckily I was ready for some sketchy stuff and as soon as I saw it I ran, leaving the saw in the tree. Both me and the saw came out scratch free. but as this guy states anything with dead trees is super dangerous.

If you did your flat cut first you wouldn't be of target
