I am doing a PhD in NLP and Language Generation in Germany with industry experience of doing ML in top companies and startups in the US and I found this video and many other videos regarding Devin extremely funny 😂 software Engineering is a very diverse field and Devin can only solve Leetcode problems. For people who are scared learn your math and algorithm fundamentals, learn cloud. This makes things very difficult. We will never know when AI will have that awakening because we ourselves are not very sure of that concept. It may be too late for us to realise we have created such an AI but then it will be too late. I might be wrong but still that is in the realm of possibility. Our human ego makes us think we are some sort of "higher" being but I personally do not believe that. We just have much better neural networks than other animals which makes us comprehend the world in this way. It may be that simple.

The thing is that there has been so much mindless shovel work. When the industry adapts to what one person can do next with AI, the visions also grow larger, and again more people will be needed to manage the processes that produce with AI the things that are needed. It is just that more will be produced and achieved in total. I suspect this will be the course for the next decades, before we get to AI that can simply do everything. This Devin AI is very far from that still, and it looks more like an efficient companion in a human-AI programmer pair, in "extreme programming" (XP) style.

If Ai engineering starts working on the meta programming concepts, it is going to be a dangerous sign that is going to severely disrupt Software engineer jobs. These meta programming concepts always touch the abstract syntax tree generation and it’s cross compiling in another language. However security vulnerability breaches should be addressed after this stage when it solely relies on the librarian.

I think these AI software engineers will be provided by big companies to able to make organisations less dependent on actual manpower but the problem is by then humans will also adapt. The catch is you can’t exploit AI however software engineers are easily exploited by tech companies where problems are not clearly defined, sometimes roles are not defined, Engineers are sometimes underpaid. These unrealistic expectations only human can fulfil. It’s been more than 1 year chat gpt has come still organisations are not able to adapt to the pace it was expected because organisations don’t want to spend on R&D much. Coders don’t want to buy gpt 4 by paying 20$. I think this will be like robots in restaurants in Japan. Only big tech companies will be able to spend millions and get these kind of AI software engineers for the rest of organisations will still be dependent on smart humans as we know everything runs on Jugaad here

With this model demo..we can conclude that development part can be catered by this model itself but its a false assumption that only a product manager can handle such model.. we still need testers which can debug the cases which is not covered with this..i understand in future it ll be more refined but then again..a product manager or business stakeholders cannot handle it.. we still require a technical team .

I am so surprised that there are people out there who are still surprised by this as if no one knew that it's already available, and that it will be updated in two months that it will just be impossible to make flaws. It's such old news....

I dont think this is a danger per se. All of this was possible even with chatgpt, only difference is here there are more resources given to the AI, and even access controls to deploying in environments. It is just taking instructions and doing things. At the very best it is replacing people from service based companies, who mainly just work like a robot a do a fixed set of instructions, dont take any ownership calls. Nothing alarming here. There's nothing to fear - even if the AI becomes a complete clone of a human, its not easily scalable. Requirements in every company are so complex. Lets see if any such AI can make good open source contributions, even then the AI is a boon rather than a harm.

Ok here is my take. It will take a while for these AI's to replace an engineer. It can do simple tasks for now, but for complicated tasks, it just goofs up. Most tasks performed by us are very nuanced. So, it will take a long time to get there.

This type of thing creates panic from everywhere. It creates two sides one that supports its cause, other side rejects it. But at the end, everything settles down. My take is it will make a good tool for software developers like GPT since LLMs are still work in progress to become advanced as expected. But it’s happening really fast. My opinion is it will take 3 or 4 years to come at the conclusion whether any job is going to be replaced by AI or not. Thats my opinion. Advancements in LLMs are happening really fast, it may slow down, but if it slows down, 3-4 years seems like average time for conclusion, for clarification, not for job replacement.

@@Raja-ct9xq As I mentioned, AI is good at software level.. Hardware level needs humans.. Robots can do in future maybe after 50 years but humans are more flexible and have better cognitive and reasoning abilities..

It solves 14 out of 100 problems. So it's accuracy is less. Human Intelligence is incomparable as of now so don't worry and start upgrading urself. Don't focus on to be in a job rather focus on what you can build.

Sincerely, AI will learn faster, optimise faster, be tireless, be relentless and devoid of emotion and nuance, no judgement just pure logic and facts, AI will always win no matter how much coding you learn everyday and how much data science or engineering one does. Humans are bound to lose. So learning all these today unless one is a freaking genius like magnus carlsen, is useless and rather learn the things which seemed pointless till today. Showing empathy, lying through the teeth and appear ro be good and all the blue collar job coz AI cant tighten screws or do jugaad, or paint a small wire or text on walls to circumvent big task etc or do any field jobs at all. Real work practical work will become the white collar and all these rest activities which are white collar today will be blue collars.

This is cool but there are so many things engineers do , will not be replaceable , what I can see is a code snippet given a logic can be developed this way. This is like we are successful in creating a human brain which can think communicate with fellow engineers , product managers , understand the exact need of the hour and build stuff which are reusable , easy to maintain with respect to future product changes . All these things are first needed before even thinking of replacing engineers . This has been rightfully confirmed by Google Microsoft and other top Tech. Companies who work on these stuffs day in day out

Hope No Sane programmers provide inputs to train this AI.

I don't get it...if AI will replace software jobs, what will software engineers do? Looks like AI is sweeping jobs in other fields too. What should we start preparing ourselves for the next few years?

I think is if such tools comes and they perform good task. Then companies will be in loss due to job loss and people will not be able to spend on services due to less money. Due to less spending power cycle comes on these companies as many customers are people who does jobss

But not everyone is interested in business nor is everyone eligible for it. These guys are forcing us to do things that we are not interested in. And then again, they will be saying on stage of motivation that "follow your heart. do what you are interested in". They are hypocrites

In business also, there are already 10000000000 people competing. Human population is growing above 8.3 Billion and Indian population above 1.43 Billion. Competition alone is enough to crush any business. 20 years back, you think of one idea and someone had started working on it as you were thinking. But now, you think of an idea and someone already done it and many are using it too... That's how fast technology is evolving.

There is no doubt that AI is getting advanced more and more and obviously in future, it will be more polished. But still, I believe, human intervention will always be required.

Are you still questioning? There are already a lot of demands for ML engineers, Data engineers, Data security expert. Just learn basics of web development and try implementing ML models in your website and all...

There's no need to worry alot @Krishnaik06. AI can never completely replace developers. There was a season where it was said that it would replace Radiologists. But it didn't .. Human understanding is the very rare thing and AI can never get to that place sooner.. Thank you for uploading an awareness video.

But how you think anyone can compete with senior programmers? No one is gonna need an intern or junior developer. If AI can do work only a few developers are gonna need it. But it will create a huge layoff

AI will probably replace tasks done by junior engineers but you still need seniors. This will only help us being efficient at our jobs. I am excited because of how productive I can be. If it was actually a software eng, the company who made this wouldn't be hiring for software engineers

Okay i ll tell you my story. When i was given a task , for product owner, he can see the issue. But the issue actually was not there. It was developed like that only. If they want to change that function then they have to rebuild the whole codebase only. So how this AI can approach this. It ll continue searching the issue even the issue is not present.

In layman terms: if it has gone this far, one thing is sure, the model would get better and better and the more it gets better the even more humans will be thrown out of the business. Question is how soon it can take over us.

Well , this is the answer to people who sugar coated while answering "will Ai replace human". Only thing we have to wait is to get this service cheaper ( cheaper than per day billing rate of developer) and all the companies will jump on this - its economics of scale

You're intelligent enough to know what's coming, Kris. The only thing keeping you optimistic is idealism. Faith. It's normal to root for the humans, but the writing is on the wall. As I said on my book, we need to re-organize society and how it works, fast! Because we won't, there's a huge wave of unemployment coming, at a global scale. A time of chaos and regeneration. Things are about to blow up big time. Surely software engineers are needed, but we can all see that soon the person will just say what they need and the machine will code it until the user is delievered an MVP, at the very least. This means the profession of programming becomes commoditized. It is not the end but there will be a lot less work to go around, for a lot less people, that will have to be very highly qualified to even apply for it.

Nah we're still far away from AI solving complicated problems. It's gonna be great for farming easy time-consuming problems we don't wanna work on, but at the end of the day humans are still going to be the composers. Maybe in a couple hundred years it'll be more capable, but definitely not anytime soon for complicated problem statements.

@@strawberryturtle8978the problem is that even if humans stay in the loop, what do you do with the excess supply when you now need only 1 out of 50 devs? What do the other 49 do when other work possibilities are also fast dissapearing?

As someone with 10+ years in the business, my suggestion would be to become language agnostic, know what is meant by programming, what are architectural and design concepts, what is meant by software engineering.... If you are overall good in Computer Science Engineering, AI like Devin will be enabler for you to create even greater things.
