I have the twin to the one you picked up. Found it the same way, used, hardly played. The thing intonates well, good tone and sustain. Used to sell for $59 at Wally World. I could drop some high-quality pickups into the thing and I doubt anyone could tell the difference from my real Fender Strat. But, even that isn't necessary... I doubt most people could tell the difference anyway. If a person doesn't have two-grand or more to sink into a high-dollar, brand name guitar, I'd recommend one of these things.

I just picked up a first act strat knock off with a single bridge humbucker for 40 bucks... the neck is surprisingly great! Maple thin C profile, rosewood board, straight, and smooth fret ends. Im gonna drop 35 bucks into it...locking tuners, round string trees, and new strings. I blocked off the bridge as it didnt come with a trem bar. The body is real cheap feeling and the finish is pretty terrible, but its honestly not a bad instrument. The tuners and trees will help it hold tune. The saddles seem reasonable and I get some good gain out of the humbucker. PS, dude you look pretty loaded

Same, I have the original Peavey Vypyr 15 modeling amp and replaced the strings with Ernie Ball Beefy Slinkys and it sounds great, although I now also have a Jackson Kelly with the licensed Floyd Rose and I only play this one when a string breaks on the Jackson (only because I’m inexperienced with Floyd’s and setting one up) so this guitar barely gets played anymore

I've got a couple First Acts that I bought cheap to go all Frankenstein on. Obviously I wouldn't do that with anything but a cheapo axe. Got an ME302 (their Tele-style knockoff) that I painted a nice sonic blue, put a tortoise shell scratch guard on and replaced the pickups. Put a lipstick cartridge humbucker at the bridge and a single lipstick cartridge at the neck. Now it twangs like no surf guitar you ever heard. Recently got an Overload (nice looking double-cut) that I'm painting sea foam green and putting a Gretsch humbucker on. No, they won't replace my Gretsch or my Gibson, but if you're inclined to spend a little money on them and have the time you can have fun turning them into something that looks, and more importantly sounds, pretty damn good.

I picked up a First Act ME302 telecaster from my local flea market/swap meet for $75. Thru my Crate VC3112 it sounds pretty great. When I go thru my PC with a Digitech RP90 it sounds just as good. For what it is, it was a decent deal though I've seen people getting them for as little as $15-30 I don't feel like I overpaid.. The only downside is that since it's such a cheap guitar there's a limit to how comfortable the neck & fingerboard can get. I think I need to really give mine a good once over in regards to the frets & just make sure everything is ship shape. But again, for what it is, it sounds okay & it does play decently it's just not butter. Sub $100 everything is margarine so... lol

It will never have all of the sustain of the guitars that are made from the perfect types of wood and I'm sure it wasn't shown a lot of love on the finish, but if you're on a budget, they aren't that bad to play on. If you want to spend the time to set up the intonation after you adjust the neck to bring the action down, I'm sure it would work out for you. You still may have to tune up between sets. They aren't Grover Tuners ya know... lol... And I'm sure some are better than others, but the one I got for $25.00 at a garage sale works pretty good.

Can anyone tell me what the best strings are for this model? I have one and put some Fender .009-.042 strings on it. I'm getting a buzz in the low E string. I see clearance at the next fret after the one fretted all the way up or down the neck. If it's not the strings, I don't know what it is. I've gone through setup twice to verify all things are right. The action is higher than I like already. I had it at 16" on the 17th fret. I'm now near 1/8" on the 17th fret. Beyond that I am impressed with this guitar. I purchased it at a local consignment store. It looks practically new. No wear on the frets at all. No scratches on the finish. Besides the buzz, it sounds beautiful.

  • @route-249

    @route-249

    5 жыл бұрын

I use .009-.042 strings and I wouldn't use anything else. My guess is that your neck is out of adjustment. These guitars aren't going to be perfect every time and sometimes any production guitar will be set up incorrectly. Here is something that I would do to try to pinpoint your problem... you will need an assistant to perform this... Have someone hold down your string on the first and last fret. Now you take a piece of paper and put it between your string and the other frets. The paper should not be pinched. It should slide through if you were to let go of it. What is happening (I suspect) is that you have the wrong bow or no bow on your neck. Either one can cause fret buzz, especially with the low E string because it is the biggest string & would be the first to hit a fret. If you do not feel comfident in adjusting your truss rod, you should take it to someone else to adjust, but if you feel comfident in doing so, then you will probably find that this will remedy your problem. Good luck & if you need anything else, just chime in...

If you take a cheap guitar and put high-dollar pick-ups in it, it sounds great. here, I did none of that, however, I am using a Marshall Haze Amp to play through (A high-dollar amp). It isn't my go-to guitar, but for the price, it's not so bad. I would rather play an Epiphone or Gibson myself, but if it was all I could afford, I'd play it... As for the amp, ... same thing, I'd use it till I could afford something else. Hope this helps...

These are relatively cheap guitars and if you are on a budget, I think these are playable guitars. And you don't have to cry about a ding or scratch. If you don't know how to set up the neck, action, and intonation, you should have someone do that for you. Should you buy one? I can't answer that for you. All I can say is that there's nothing wrong with them. They are made well and sound ok in my book. Obviously if you play it through a cheap amp, it's gonna sound cheap; through a great sounding amp, it'll sound like an expensive guitar.Good Luck!

It's not a knockoff of a fender strat. It may have some similarities but fender doesn't hold the patent for the s style guitar. Regardless if they made the shape first, it's not a knockoff or imitation product. Just another s styled guitar.

"S" style or type comes from the Stratocaster name. Change the pickguard and the headstock and you have yourself a complete imitation Stratocaster. If First Act hadn't changed these two things, Fender would sue them for everything they have. Yes, it's a copy.

Well some of us do know! Especially me, I make instruments; guitars, violins, harps, steel guitars... First Act is ONLY good for a beginner. When you try a high quality guitar you will know the difference between a cheap piece of crap vs expensive one. Its a world of difference. I could identify a First Act instrument with my eyes closed.

CookiesUnleashed Why is it horrible? Just because it is a beginner guitar? Not everyone can afford top of the line Fenders and Gibsons. I have one of these guitars. I got at St. Vinnie's and as a starter guitar it is fine.

Play it completely clean. With the original strings. Sounds cheap and "Tin-ny". LOL it barely holds sustain. Much props on trying to make "anything" sound good LOL..

+smartymarty9 actually my guitar is as good as its materials, electronics, setup, strings, and personal action preferences. Don't oversimplify something so complex.

I got one of the same for free. Installed pots caps clothwrap and Fender Texas Specials and OMG .. Gonna install Fender original vintage II 61s or 57s or 73s pickups sets as soon as they are released to further enhance the fabulas vibatory impeadence mine has. its very very loud unplugged and rings a long time. . with the low output vintage puckups it should voice as a pre cbs strat does.. The texas pickups sound great as expected but this guitat deserves more natural puckups and not such fire mid range the texas have ..peace enjoyed

The ugliest headstock ever! I'd have to reshape it to get away from that kit guitar kayak vibe.
