First 10km run

So here it is, after around 6 months I have gone from not being able to run 2 steps to not only completing my C25K, but then moving on to running my first ever 10km.
Do not convince yourself you cannot do something, I always used to be like that and if I had stayed that way then I would not have done this.
Thank you all for your views and your kind messages through this.

I searched C25K Week 3 to find inspiration. Found your videos. Very inspirational. And in compared to then and now, you have definitely lost weight. On top of that you have run 10k in THIS video! You thought Week 3 was hard and now you're running 10k! Wow! Fantastic.

Thanks, I am glad that people are finding inspiration from this, I still find it hard to believe that people can find me an inspiration but that's probably my life long doubt resurfacing. Just come back from 4 miles, not as much as a 10km but its 30 odd degrees and I really really struggle in the heat. I'm going to aim to get to 10km as a routine run and hopefully push onto a half marathon distance this year (might be too far but I can only try) and drop another 2 stone (which would make it 6 in 2 years). I hope you can get through one of the programs as to finish it, the feeling of going from noting to something like that is beyond words and really makes all the pain and effort worth while. The hardest part is starting.

Hey man, I've just finished day 1 today and I'm very glad that I found your videos to watch. I'll definitely be taking inspiration from you and your story and I hope I finish the schedule as you did and also take away as much positivity as you too. You seem like a really sound guy and hope you are well and are smashing whatever new goals that you've set yourself, all the best mate.

Many thanks for your words, you have done the most important stage as starting something is probably the hardest thing anybody can do. I have not been as active as I would have liked to be honest as I'm finding things tough at the moment (it comes and goes) and it is much harder running when I working, did the first 10km just before I went back to work. But I have been setting myself some goals and they are small ones but goals none the less. One week it was 5 5kms in 5 days at 10kph (bad weather so used the treadmill). Actually did 6.5 miles a couple of weeks ago so I am confident that I am still ale. Just keep at it, you can do it. There will be times where you will be finding it tough but when you make it through those difficult times the feeling you get is outstanding

Amazing work Robin. This has inspired me to do a 10k, and I hope to reach there in about 2/3 months time. I just ran my first ever 5.5km yesterday, with a goal of increasing it by 0.5km every week. Keep it up and keep us posted! I'm so glad you made a video of your first ever 10k, I can imagine the feeling.

Hi, thank you for your words and I wish you the very best in doing it, just adding a little more each time was kind of how I managed it. I'll be brutally honest that after doing all of that I injured my Achilles and didn't run for about a year, then I got a job in Norway on a ship for 6 months and there was not room to be able to run more than a few feet. Since then I have not really had the desire to run much, probably scared to injure myself again and just kept saying that I used to be able to run xkm. But a couple of weeks ago I decided to no longer keep with the used to part and so I restarted the C25K (started from week 4) and just the other day I managed the 20 minutes, which considering how I haven't run in such a long time its a bit of an achievement. I will get the 5km under my belt again and I will move on to further things. This time I wont challenge myself to 50km in a week, pull my Achilles after the 1st 10km and try to do another one the next day....it didn't go too well last time :)

You're an inspiration. I'm on week 3 it's hard for me at the moment. I'm unfit and have no confidence when I'm running. thanks for your videos, I keep watching them to encourage myself to keep running.

Thank you for you comment, I would never have said I was inspirational to anybody but I am glad that you have found these to be useful....it makes the pain of doing it easier :). You have done the hardest part in starting to do it as I remember the very first one and that nearly killed me! Keep at it and believe it or not, it generally feels not, you will find it becomes something that you begin to enjoy. I am getting myself back to 10 km after my winter lazyness now that the railway line is dry for the moment as it's easier outside than on the treadmill at home. Keep it up, keep telling yourself that you can do it and on those times you do not make the distance in one go, just try again. Do it at your own pace as we are all different. A lot of it comes from your mind.

Good job man! I've finished the C25K program and I'm just working on not losing my rhythm until the winter holidays start so I have some time to work towards my 10k run.About what you should do now, the next step is usually the half marathon (21K) or you could sign up for a race and see how different it is than just running around alone.

Thanks. I haven't done any this week...quite bad, but I have started a new job this week after a year and a half (this 10km was part of my new life after walking away from my old job) have to drive 40 miles each way and just wanted to get used to the commute. Luckily we have a treadmill at home and now I am not too heavy for it so I will use that over the winter months during the week. Really do not want to destroy this progress by just stopping. I suppose half marathon distance would be the next logical step, it does seem too long a distance to run but from where I started 10km is a long distance. Anything is possible.

Keep it up! Seeing someone a similar size to me doing so well has really inspired me and has made buy my first ever pair of running shoes and download the C25k app! Hopefully will be wondering what challenge is next for me after a 10k just like you in the near future!

I started walking as being larger its good to get walking and getting used to doing things before I decided to run. Do not get too disheartened if you cannot do one of the runs in one go, when I had finished the course I could only run the 5k about 3/4 of the time as it was very much at my limit, I would run as far as I could then slow down and even walk a bit and get off running again and finish the distance. One of the hardest things I found was getting over the doubter in my mind. It feel so good when you tell it to shut up and keep on going as I have found that it has given me a different outlook as I listened to that doubt for so many years I didn't try anything now I can shut it up and try something new....still cannot believe that I can run 10km though as I still remember day 1 week 1 and just how hard the first 8x1min runs were! Take your time and do it at your own pace and you can do it.
