Fireworks, lightning and sirens: Brainerd-Baxter Fourth of July - Brainerd Dispatch MN
Brainerd lakes area residents got more than they bargained for Wednesday night while attending Fourth of July fireworks' events in Baxter.
The lights in the sky were not all fireworks as a severe thunderstorm barreled through the lakes area offering residents plenty of lightning strikes that lit up the sky.
Residents lined up along Highway 371 in Baxter, filled up the empty field between Target and Mills Body Works and surrounding areas to watch Brainerd/Baxter's fireworks through the early part of the storm. The fireworks show was cut short by the storm when the National Weather Service (NWS) in Duluth issued a tornado warning for Crow Wing, Cass, Wadena, Morrison and Todd counties. Sirens went off three times during the night and law enforcement authorities asked fireworks watchers to go home and seek shelter because of the storm.
The fireworks were started before the NWS prompted the first siren blasts for the tornado warning. Once started, the firework display couldn't be stopped.

Definitely sounded like a war zone with firecrackers sounding like ammo, lightning and thunder sounding like explosions and tornado sirens going off as if it were World War 2.

I was living in Spokane, Wa. some years ago, when this same thing happened on July 4th. The fireworks were supposed to start at 10, but a strong storm system was moving in so they started the fireworks at 9:30. It was so awesome watching the fireworks with the lightning at the same time. Man's fireworks vs. Mother Natures.

Correction, the NWS does not prompt the sirens, They issue the watches and warning. Then the EMA usually sounds the sirens.

Wow absolutely astonishing!!! With the lightning and the booming of the fireworks, as those 2001s wail in the background (along with a faintly heard XT22) just is... unexplainable. Amazing capture!!!

i actually witnessed this whole thing when i was younger, luckily i didnt experience the sirens but it was a epic experience
I heard a FS 2001 sounding attack, another 2001 and a 2T22 in alert.

yea... i think we got the same storm cuz we had fireworks then like an hour later it started to really lightening a LOT! and i was at work (fireworks) and at a hospital, during the lightening show.

It is indeed the tornado siren going off. An alert was issued and the town sirens were sounded.
I hate it when tornado sirens go off at night it probably means tornado I've been around 6 in 1 day

Them people steady popping fireworks and ignoring the sirens and non-stop lightning like nothing going on, how stupid can people be, are those people who popping the fireworks deaf or something?!?!

No, the tornado sirens were sounded because a tornado warning was issued by our weather service.
Oh well I keep watching them enjoy the sirens and fireworks it's awesome asf

JBC Parkward brainerd-Baxter has a few 2001’s, a couple thunderbolt 1000T’s and a 1000A

bkriegel95 I might be wrong but I think nothing would happen. But if lightning struck the shell that launched and hasn’t exploded yet it would prob explode
Maybe the fireworks are radioactive, and are spreading fallout.

It might not be a tornado warning but there is lighting and thunder and a siren and fireworks.

Ah, the fireworks are on a timer, they are set to go of, once they start going off, there's Nothing they can do to stop it. I'm sure they would if they could, all they could do is just let the fireworks Go off. I know that some if you say that they should stop the fireworks, but n reality, it's on a computerized timer, If they knew ahead of time about the sirens and being told to go inside, they maybe could have shut down everything, but that would have to be before the show starts.
