Thank you most of the thinking is done as you go. Just looking at how each chain pull lays down and the making the next one fit into a finished design. Some chain pull paintings are intentional but the ones where you pour the paint first it is much more about bringing up colors that you know you put in the pour but didn’t come to the surface. Or it can be about bringing so interest to a blah area of the painting.

Thank you, I did many paintings using the chains. You can save many a not great pour as there are colors under the top layer of paint that can be brought up using the chains. I am currently doing more traditional art pieces but the pours are unique. Good luck keep your paint a little on the thicker side.

Shelby Price I just finished a 12 by 24 commission piece. Chain pull is about the only thing I didn’t do to it! It’s in some challenging colors for me- deep eggplant, navy, blacked turquoise, medium turquoise, medium red violet, medium blue, cobalt, black and white, accented with gold. Swiped, balloon rolls, some balloon kisses, blown with a straw... I have to learn when to quit, but it’s actually really interesting and the eye moves really well across it. I stayed up all night, as is actually rather normal for me these days. I got a lot of inspiration from KZread, where I saw acrylic pours for the first time last summer. I’m not scraping much these days! Hurray! The better quality paint I’m buying now made a big difference, too! ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

@@shelbyprice7081 The big white backwards L-shaped white area in the middle towards the right is his nose, the smaller one next to it, a bit more curved is his check. Right below these is a dark area, and another light area directly between the nose. These make the mouth and moustache. The creamy red spiky sweep down the first third of the image, with the light blue part in the middle of that make the back of the head and ear. The sweeping light and dark blue areas on the bottom sweeping towards the right make a pointed beard, while that dark sweep above the two backward L's form sort of an eye ridge. It really becomes more clear in the thumbnail image. That is what I can see, anyway.

The brand of paint doesn't matter but you do need to have your paint not too thin as the designs you create with the chain will not hold but they will flow back together. Order chains on Amazon. Stainless is best since you don't want rust to stain you paints.

You can certainly use just one chain but you have to keep stopping and washing it out after each put so that you do muddy up your colors. I am lazy and like to have a lot of chain pieces to work with. I also have three different sizes, a fine chain, med and a larger ball chain. Getting long length and cutting to desired lengths is very reasonable.

@@bensartstudio24 if chain pulling a regular pour make sure that you have poured off a good bit of the paint as to much paint or to thin of paint will cause the designs to fill back in. You can get good results when there is too much paint on the surface but you will have to make more pulls to get the design to stay. Using too thin a paint just doesn't give nice shape edges. Good luck.
