    3 жыл бұрын

    No worries Jaime - stoked it helped you out! Hmmm this is a tough one! Height and weight wise I'd say the 5'8 would be a good fit - but the main thing will be your skill level to make the most of it. Slightly longer would increase your paddle power but decrease the performance and vice-versa. If you're more towards the intermediate side of things it's an epic board, but if you're more beginner you might be better off nailing those basics and skills on a slightly different board if that makes sense?

    Great reviews, you're living the dream! How's the Seaside compare to the Evo in terms of wave range, ease of use. Looking for the best fit as a daily driver hybrid for fast breaking steep beach breaks from waist to head high. I was thinking Evo to get the speed to make the sections, but Seaside also looks pretty good. Only negative I heard for Seaside was its only a fair paddler and not a great paddler as the tail is so thin?

  • @StokedForTravel

    @StokedForTravel

    3 жыл бұрын

    Thanks Jon! I personally haven’t ridden the Evo so can’t compare them like for like but I can safely say the Seaside is easy to paddle and generates tonnes of speed, so you won’t go wrong with it! Would be worth opting for a shorter option for steeper punchier waves. The main thing I will say is the Evo would probably win out in terms of top to bottom surfing. Let me know which you decide on! 🤙

    Stoked you enjoyed the review Alexi! Hmmm well I have regretted selling the Seaside, but do now have the Seaside and Beyond which is such a good board. Hey Derek, stoked you're liking the reviews! So board wise yeah I'd say the 6'4 is going to be too much board for your height and weight. I'm about the same weight (a slightly bit taller though) and the 5'8 was a solid choice, although having progressed since then I'd drop a few sizes again. It's also well worth checking out the Mashup as well, which for me has now replaced the Seaside :)

  • @StokedForTravel

    @StokedForTravel

    So I would say the 5'8 version would be a good choice given your height and weight. However I would potentially say that the board might be a little advanced for you at the moment and there might be a better option for you at this stage in your progression. But if you're already confident on good sized, unbroken waves and performing basic turns it could work well - just be prepared for a bit of a learning curve! 🤙I would also recommend checking out a performance mid length as another option too

    I'm an advanced surfer, 148 lbs. I ride a 5'5" Seaside which paddles better than expected for the volume. I would be happy to drop down to the 5'4". If you like how your 6'4" paddles maybe stick with that volume. These boards are meant to surfed short, Machado weighs 140 and rides a 5'2". If you can do turns off the rail a 5'8 will be too much foam/width for you.

    @@brantrichardson1949 thanks for the input Brant, good words of advice and good to hear how people are getting on with the shorter models. For me the length of the 5'8 gave me a little more paddle power which I enjoyed and I didnt feel like the performance was too stifled by that

    Great review, still debating between the 5´5 or 5´6, I normally ride a lost redux rocket 5´10 (32 L) and a custom fish 5´8 (35 L) So kind of worried the 5´5 at 31.5 L and the 5´6 at 32.7 might seem like not enough Liters, but also see everyone saying they should have bought a smaller size when it comes to the seaside... Im 5´11ish at 75 kg any suggestions?

    Sizing is always a tough one hey? I'm 6'0 and 82kg and went for the 5'8 version, but to be honest I prefer a little extra foam underneath me! It also really comes down to your skill level and the waves you're surfing - If you're getting on well with the Redux I'don't think you'd go too wrong with either option, there's so much volume under your chest it'll still be super easy to paddle. Guess it depends if you want more performance or more paddle power

    @@gabrielyoung9886 stoked to hear you like the videos Gabriel! So for the Maldives it really depends what waves you're chasing. The Evo will certainly be the best option for bigger, hollower surf, whereas the Seaside and Mashup will be better in under head and a half. The main thing I'd also take into account is that the Seaside and Mashup may also suit your level slightly better though. Just to make things even more of a juggle I'd also throw the Dominator 2 into the mix as well as I think that's going to really tick all the boxes for what you're looking for!

    Hmmmm so if you’re finding it under volume over in oz it’ll be even more so in the UK. I took my 5’8 home last year and really struggled in it (admittedly I hadn’t surfed in cold water in a 5/3 for nearly 8 years!) but I’d be tempted to go even bigger. The waves in the UK are a lot less punchy

    Hey mate, you might be the perfect advisor as you have kind of the same size like me (I'm 6'1, 83kg) and you obviously know the Northern Sea beach breaks. Most reviews are made in super clean conditions where almost every board would work. I'm looking for this board for a while know to surf it here in windy, weak conditions with a 5/4 wetsuit as well as a longboard substitute in France and Portugal. Would you go for a 5'9 or 5'10 without getting too boaty? My better wave shortboard is a 36,8L custom, shaped like a Chilli Rare Bird. I was surfing almost every day in Portugal the past 2 years before summer 2020 and surf since about 7 years. But I'm 42 years now and haven't done a lot of workout since last summer or to be honest - became a Corona couch potatoe :D So mostly my worries are about sizing it right, but also about the Helium working here when it might get a bit more choppy.

  • @craigphillips6496

    @craigphillips6496

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hey mate, Helium is no good when it is bumpy or choppy. It hates cross shore wind. But strong direct offshores, ok for some reason. I surfed it in gale offshores and it was fine. But in cross shores, the bumps and chop make it hard to paddle, hard to surf. It bogs on the chop, chatters on the chop, ribs in the wave will catch it, make it skip out. Its good for mellow, waist to overhead glass. Emphasis on glass! And don't oversize it. I did and it's corky in good surf. Im 80 kgs. Experience surfer since the 90s. Fullsuit all year. And my 5.8 feels corky. Unless the surf is clean and mellow and high tide-ish. In those conditions, I absolutely LOVE it. So, if you size it right, its versatile, if you go too big it's very limited.
