Fireweed- Beauty After the Burn
Фильм және анимация
There is a quiet peace that comes to the desolate solitude of a ravaged land. The silence of ending. A promise of beginning. A way forward through the pain. A drip of rain, a tiny seedling, the first bit of green pushing up through the soot and ash.
Rebirth of the purest order comes after the destruction.
By mid-spring the healing has commenced, the reconstruction taking place in the woody remnants of roots, the earth and humus and microbes thickening and swelling with something hopeful and enduring.
The land is pliable and forgiving. Life will persist.
After all of the sorrow, it is a welcome surprise that some things flourish best after the dismantling. Seeds that have lain dormant for years soften and break apart, a tiny spark of life creeping from their impenetrable little shells. Decomposition begins, feeding tender new roots, tentatively exploring the ashy soil, finding dirt heavy with potassium and phosphorus to their liking.
The blackened land begins to change. Silver birch and aspen seedlings wave their wind chime leaves in the breeze. Mountain Mallow seeds, long anticipating the cycle of wildfire, burst into bloom, their tall stalks bringing a soft beauty to the earth. Arnica flowers bob their cheerful, sunny faces against soot blackened logs. Elk come to graze on the tender new grass. Fireweed reigns supreme, overwhelmingly in control.
Let the re-beautifying commence.
I am not far removed from all of this at my core. I stand in awe, a being of this earth, both soft and sinewy, shedding some of my frailty as I watch life rebuild from the ruins. It is hard for my humanness to accept, that destruction brings rebirth, so caught up in the would haves and should haves that the beauty and potential of the moment often slips through my fingers like cool spring water on a balmy summer day. I am impatient, inflexible, resistant to change. I have a lot to learn in my short, imperfect life; never stop going, never stop trying, never believe beauty has come to its end.
Stay well my friends.
Until next time...
