I think I would change my new movie rating from 3 stars to 2.5. I liked it but don't know if I would make a point to rewatch it. I didn't dislike it as much as other reviewers and youtubers do though lol. It seems like I'm the only one who actually liked it!

I liked it. It just felt VERY rushed at the end. It needed at least another 30 mins

I actually prefer the 84 movie more. Question about the 2022 movie… if someone killed your mother would accept them as your legal guardian? Because that is the messed up end of the 2022 movie. If they wanted to pull that ending off, they would of been better off making Rainbird’s character more like the version that was in the book but less obsessed and creepy.

Maybe when Charlie isn't feeling faint and is more herself she leaves him.

Thank you for your great review! It's been so long since reading, that I would never have remembered the specifics. Also helped me appreciate the newer movie, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Thank you Laura!!!

Not sure if you know or care. But there is a sequel to the 84 Firestarter. It's called Firestarter Rekindled. Malcolm McDowell played John Rainbird in this version, and Marguerite Moreau played Adult Charlie

This movie made me scream at the screen I enjoyed everything but the stupid ending which left me confused and angry having seen the original when I was a child I figured it was just another remake but to change the ending to that was just upsetting

Like the very end, with her going with Rainbird? As I was watching it, that part made sense to me since they both have powers and can relate to each other in a way. It wasn't til after the fact I was like, hmm he killed her mom so how is she okay with going with him

I’d have to give the 2022 version about half a star out of/ 4 stars. It was so drab and boring and for a movie that was only 90 minutes long- it felt poorly paced. Nothing made an impact and it felt completely hollow (especially the second half) since they gutted the book so horribly. Charlie’s “vengeance” against - what, maybe 5-10 bad guy agents and then being saved by the same person who murdered her mom? Eh, no. That made zero sense. Also, her not returning to Irv’s farm made THAT sequence pointless and a time waster. Nothing about it felt fresh or worked. I watched the 1984 movie the day after and it at least had a proper film structure that made everything make sense (and the characters became much more fleshed out - even the bad guys got some development to some degree). The ending in the stables felt epic and “earned”. It’s no classic but I’d probably say it’s a solid 2 1/2 out of 4 stars. Neither version is a must see but the 1984 is a much better version to watch.

For me the 84 movie felt boring. It followed the book so close, but in such a blah way that because I knew the end, it was tough to get myself to finish it. So at least the new movie made changes that had me curious to see what happens. However I agree the new movie has a LOT of flaws. Her going with Rainbird didn't bother me, even though I agree it doesn't fit considering he killed her mom. She was weak both mentally and physically and wasn't in her right frame of mind in the end though so she must not have thought that through

Hey what do you know, I watched the 1984 movie the day after I watched the new one as well! It made me feel a little better after putting myself through the 2022 movie.

I loved your review of all 3, thank you! My opinions: I thought the 80's movie was cheesy and the acting, besides Drew, was pretty bad. I enjoyed the 2022 movie with the changes they made for the most part. The one thing I didn't like about the 2022 movie was changing the character Irv and especially his wife. I understand why they did it, but aren't there good and trusting people in the world? It's like they thought the wife character wasn't that important. The book held my interest, but I found so many unnecessary parts in the book that each movie cut out.

Glad you liked the video! Yeah that's true about Irv, I didn't mind the change in the 22 movie. But you make a good point that it was an example of good people in the world who want to help
