Lyrics:
Well I'm an outlaw
I make my living on the run
My life is lonely
But I was born to need no one
Always on my own
My gun is loaded
I'm a six-shot heart attack
I pull the trigger
So you better watch your back
Looking out for #1 so you had better take this piece of advice
Make your move
Stick 'em up or kiss your ass goodbye
Reach for the sky
Or I will shoot you down in the blink of an eye
Reach for the sky
There's nowhere to run, nowhere to hide
Reach for the sky
I got the drop on you so raise them high
Reach for the sky

I met Firehouse back in 1999 at a club in Richmond VA called Razzle.. After C.J. Shook my hand, I said "keep Rockin".. He looked at me and " Yeah man, We're not gonna quit"... And he wasn't lying.. Very dedicated Front man.. I was buying their records when most of my friends had moved on to Pearl Jam and those other lame bands that came out during the time..I grew up in Richmond and Firehouse was very special to us.. Absolutely great band.. Bill totally influenced me as a guitarist.. I stood about 4 feet from the stage at Razzles and was blown away.. At that time, I only knew basic chords , Now ive been playing for 30 years , and ill never forget those days.. C.J. Snare , Dont rest in peace, Get up and Reach for the universe! God bless Firehouse and all the great songs and Memories. Take care guys!

Rest in Power, CJ Snare. I saw Firehouse debut this song live the day before this album came out. They were opening for Tesla, and it was one helluva show! I saw Firehouse again in the late 2000's. They were opening for Warrant shortly after Jani Lane passed away. Robert Mason had taken over for Lane long before Jani died, but they did acknowledge their former singer's passing. Back to Firehouse though. CJ Snare sounded just as good then as he did in the early 90's, and the band was as good as ever. Truly another sad loss.

I saw Firehouse open for Warrant in 1991, then Tesla the following year. Fast forward to the 2000's, and saw them at the HOI fair in Peoria (introduced a college-age friend to their music, and he LOVED it!), with an 80's/90's tour a year or so later, then my ex-bf booked them to headline the Taste of Lombard in 2008, because I loved them, and assured him they put on a great, family-friendly show (they delivered). Hilariously, I'd made the decision to leave that guy the morning after that concert. Because he was such a nightmare, I didn't tell him what I was planning. Giggled with the only friend who knew I was leaving all the way through "All She Wrote'. :D Working from home today, listening to Firehouse. CJ was such a great, underrated front-man.

Man this song rocks. Nothing beats that 88-93 metal sound - when bands finally merged balls-heavy with melody (instead of being either heavy or melodic). Plus that awesome "big" production we first heard on Whitesnake's 1987. This is why I wish it was permanently 1993: all of the 80s with these killer bands that spilled into the early 90s. And, fo course, rock was still huge back then!

  • @alexs8202

I couldn't agree with this assessment more! Just take a look at xyz's Hungry (fantastic guitar tone and riffs) with just straight up balls out drums and singing. Other great examples would be Shotgun Messiah's second coming album, along with Wildside's album as well. Just straight up REAL rock without computers processing things like today. Just remember, even the crappiest 80s band had to actually PLAY instruments and sing with their ACTUAL voices. Some even wrote their own music. Reading/writing music along with playing real instruments is equal to speaking a second language. It takes talent and perseverance to pull it off. And yes, late 80s to about 93 (even more so 91-93) just had some killer balls out polished melodic rock. I am 36 so I grew up listening to grunge (which I believe is good music, it's just harder to find good bands and they are few and far between). One positive thing I have found is that I literally discover these early 90s gems almost on a weekly basis, since they were not so prominently known as grunge killed the genre. To me it's like new melodic hard rock is coming out every week lol!

Put down the band's if you want but I bet they are far better musicians than you, and quoting dave mustane? That's a joke. Look how rush used to dress in the 70s with the robes and slight make up. That could be considered glam, they're blow dave out the water any day of the week. Instead of hating on something and trying to divide it into sub genres just respect all types of rock and metal like any true rock n roller would.

They are light weight and once you start playing it's hard to stop. The tone was stunning as well with such a beautiful balance from the PU's that you can hear in the recording. Ceramic PUs with stunning midrange just oozing class.

One of the few bands who were carrying that killer late 80'z vibe into the 90's, and doing a very good job. Lynch Mob (Wicked Sensation), Fifth Angel (Time Will Tell), Babylon AD (self title and Nothing Sacred), Steelheart (self title), Skid Row (self title) and Saints and Sinners (self title) are a few more stand outs that come to my mind from this period in time; 89-92. But then that idiotic moronic shit out of Seattle stopped it all in its tracks. Not in my house though, this stuff gets cranked daily, its the only way to save your kids from being totally fucked up. \m/

I just said the same about 80s/90s - glad to see I'm not the only one who feels the same. Only thing I differ on is grunge - grunge itself didn't kill metal. First of all, you had the two-faced fans who jumped ship to worship Seattle and slagged off metal. Secondly, rock was already tearing itself apart - incredible snobbery amongst bands and deriding others; creating sub-genre after sub-genre in a bid to stand out from the crowd (metal was mainstream and you couldn't move for all the bands). All these sub-genres (including the nonsensical and meaningless "hair metal") even ahd ozzy exclaiming in exasperation: "I can't keep up! Every band claims to be a different style - what next, gay metal? What happened to just being rock b roll?" Even now, with rock in the doldrums, the stupid elitism continues. Rock of Ages was snubbed at the box office. All these supposed metal fans turning their nose up at pretty actors attempting their favourite songs, annoyed their favourite songs weren't included, angry at Hollywood's commercialism when in reality had they helped make it a success then record execs would have taken note, realised there's life in the genre yet, and invest in the genre once again. Plus, it was a good film. Very respectful to the 80s, very funny and great music.

@Jerf Hankell Amen. You can like Def Leppard, and still like Alice in Chains. They're not mutually exclusive. As for this song, great guitar work, great hook, great vocals.

@@elmarko9051 That was what I thought when grunge and alternative first happened. I liked AIC and some other bands in that genre. But then over night it quickly became you're either with us or against us feel. The gungers (who liked the 80 metal bands seemingly a week earlier) started calling it lame and cheesy. That attitude among not only the fans but the bands of grunge and alternative really soured my opinion on them and I've hated the genre ever since.

They won't be back because apart from the bands which were gold, also the audience was gold, since they were the ones who actually lived this music. However, the songs will stand the test of time forever.
