One thing to remember is you never go in alone and you don't go out alone. Always keep physical contact with you partner. Physical fitness plays a big part in getting your heart to relax (slow down) after it has been working hard. Conserving that last bit of air in your tank takes a lot of practice to reach 20+/- minutes.

Great video and thanks for the information. One thing, if I may suggest. When you run out of air try not to take everything off, helmet, hood and mask. Practice land marking your release mechanism on your face piece and when you are totally out of air take your regulator off your face mask. Even for this video. Then once you have done this take a couple of seconds to put your face piece opening into your glove (as if your face piece is your hand), a N95 mask or the bottom of your hood. Filter as best you can. Practice running out of air every mask check. Breathe till there is no air, then take two more breathes. Feel the panic (even though you are totally safe). You want to rip everything off but don't. Land mark and remove (land mark with your hand early especially with gloves on). RIT teams will prefer you with your face piece on and practicing this will help you with composure when its demanded.

we dont moan or complaine...and we do more than just fight fire.....everthing we do is drilled into us to save property and lives . lives of those who need rescuing or the lives of my fellow firefighters. not one single fireman does the job to be a hero it just so happens that every now and again we have to do something that your average joe might not be able. been a firefighter 3 years now and have been trained to the higest standard so this video makes so much sense....thank you

This all differs from manufacturer to manufacturer. Scott's are different than MSA packs. After your LOA turns off on some MSA units, you have a few seconds. Scotts, you have minutes... Key point, know your limitations and equipment.

Some years ago I was participating as a victim in a confined space training and my air equipment lasted 45 minutes and still had 1500 psi left in a resting position Hace algunos años me tocó estar participando como víctima en un entrenamiento de espacios confinados y mi equipo de aire me duró 45 minutos y aún le quedaban 1500 psi estando en una posición de reposos.

When I am working in a SCBA I find that I have only about 15 to 20 mins of air. If you have already been working for a few mins then you will have even less air than this guy. Basically you breathe shallow. At least that is what I do. Our department only goes in the structure if there is someone trapped inside. We make the primary attack from the outside. When the flame is knocked down then we let our guys in to fight on the inside to mop up the hot spots. It is safer for everybody that way.

good strategy, but if you go like that -at least i think so- you´re gonna put so much water on the fire, that the structure ill be destroyed by the water, not the fire.... i think and what do you to if the fire is in the basement?

Box breathing it looked like inhale slow 3 to 4 seconds hold for 3 to 4 seconds exhales 3 to 4 seconds hold for 3 to 4 seconds repeat. You can also do skip breathing, rebt breathing, straw breathing or tactical breathing but with tactical it should be done when known you are going in for a longer period and started as soon as you put the mask on. Not all work for everyone thats whybwe integrate them into training you gotta know your equiptment and your own limitations find wich works for you cardio is your friend build your lungs up and diaphram get use to working with your equiptment and wieght of your equiptment

+tim rediske You're wrong. What about the rest of the back of your head/neck that's covered by just the hood? It's actually the contrary - people who put the hood over their masks actually compromise their visibility even more than the mask already does. Having it put over the seal saves you visibility, and protects you adequately.
