I was just there a few weeks ago. It’s was such a beautiful place.

One of our engine crews, myself included, was in Christmas Valley the afternoon and night of the red flag conditions that Capt. Wade outlines at 7:35. We were embedded in the Rainbow Rd neighborhood as the fire jumped the valley onto the E side of Hwy 89. The entire W facing slope uphill from Hwy 89 caught fire and crowned, making its way to the peak, in all of about 15 minutes. Between sundown and 5:00AM, our engine caught 10 different spot fires as big as 20x20 in the floor of the valley. Shout out to any other resources assigned to 89, Blitzen, or S Upper Truckee, it was one heck of a party.

I spent the month of July there in South Lake with my sister. This is so tragic. I am so so great full fir the firefighters who have saved the homes of my family and friends. I will be forever grateful!

That is California. A few years ago they divert water from the farmers in the valleys of California because it might endanger minnows. So farmers lost their farms, people went hungry for stupid minnows....and termites - let them die.

The trees are so majestic that any average person would object to cutting any of them down but these homes need to be surrounded by open space for 50 yards at least. County supervisors need to wake up and get with reality.

You could fit sprinkerls outside from roof top and under the eaves fitted to the mains for 20k. Keeping your home wet in a fire...

I just don’t think they can stop that raging fire from getting to that house.

Outstanding job firemen! Where is your air support? You have a couple of guys and a couple of hoses for that major fire? The wildlife running scared breaks my heart. All those trees that took years and years to grow just gone. This is horrible to put it mildly. I can't even imagine anyone watching their home being so close to fire like that. Why don't they take the jail birds that they are letting go and put them on the fire to help? Surely they could do some good with a shovel. Have them help fight the fire in a way it would show them giving something to the community.

I’m an animal lover and kinda feel bad for that coyote but they recently killed to of my friends dogs so I’m not as sad about it as I would have been.

Please explain the difference between the coyote that killed dogs and dogs that would cheerfully kill that coyote given the chance. (They are basically the same animal and can mate and have fertile off spring)

@@trimule her dogs were small breeds. They were attacked for food. She was devastated and now keeps her dogs on leashes when outside. She lives on 10 un fenced acres in the foothills. I have 5 dogs. Mine and all of the dogs I’ve known and know now would never try to kill another dog or coyote. I don’t know what dogs you know that would do that.

It's our job to make sure we keep our animals out of harm's way. If a human's dog is killed by wildlife, it's the human's fault, not the wildlife that's just trying to survive.

Pit Bulls. and many others. I don't mean to be insulting but as to "My dog would never...." that usually leads to "But he's never done anything like that before!" when Good Boy Rover turns a neighbors Paris Hilton Poopsie into a doggie burger. @@trimule our dogs are fully trained. We are not stupid. There are breeds that can have an aggressive side but it’s normally the owners fault. Poor training or they are miss treated. My friends husband was a dog handler in the service, a canine police officer and then a dog trainer when he retired. They weren’t Shepard’s. I’ve had many of those breeds. A few of my dogs have been mixed with pit. My only big dog right now is a Shepard, husky mix. I know only because we had his dna done. He’s a very well behaved , lovable dog. Of course a Feral dog would be different. We don’t have those where I live.

In our country it’s Christian evangelicals and other Christian nationalists groups. I suspect you want your book of revelations to come true, which is disgusting af. Who desires the end of the world and the death of billions who are not Christians when your Jesus arrives?, gross. So you deny our role in climate change and block any reforms the rest of us want to make to try to combat the problem, and then you lose your shit and start thinking the rapture is coming when the effects of climate change cause extreme weather, just like we said it would, but no! These firefighters must not be CalFire. Last year, as the big fire in Santa Cruz raged through the forested hills, CalFire told home owners that they could not put their burning homes out because they didn't have the equipment to hook up to the fire hydrants and because they weren't structure firefighters...
