Firefighter Search Technique: Tripod Position

I learned this technique from Justin McWilliams (Search Culture). Some benefits of this technique include speed, manoeuvrability, your head is up to monitor conditions, and my personal favourite, the ability to sound floor!

Fascinating. Is visibility ever ok, or is it just always crap?

The only time I have had good visibility in a fire, is when we roll up to a structure and there is fire blowing out of multiple windows/doors (the fire self vented)… The fire itself uses smoke as a fuel, and once we put water on the fire, steam and smoke naturally vent easily do to all the openings in the building. Otherwise, usually visibility is minimal due to smoke filling the room/compartment/building.

@@HumbleFirefighter Yep. You can practically walk through a self vented often to search. But anything else there is low, lower, and TIC-only.
