Hinokas great, and even in Rev when she joins later, Her flight, high Lance rank, all around good Bases make her very useful still.

In Rev she needs Guard Naginata equipped just to stay alive - 24 hp and 12 def is very low at the time she joins and 14 str would be good enough if she could use stronger weapons without dying but with any other lance equipped she gets one shot by a most physical enemies. Flight is useful but you have better fliers at this point, her lance rank doesn't do much due to her frailty and her only good bases are spd and res, everything else ranges from okay to tragic. Pretty much everything that makes her great in BR is absent in Rev unfortunately.

@@Xertaron. HP Tonic brings her up to 29 HP and thats 24 HP unpromoted too, i dont have the promo gains on hand but its around 3 HP, so 32 HP. In fates HP is low in general and you are underselling her utility and stats. If you want pure combat from her Spear master is a great choice.

​@@oof5992 If you need hp tonic to prevent a unit from dying, then it's clearly an issue, and it's far from Rev Hinoka's only one. Low hp isn't a problem in it of itself on a unit that isn't enemy phase focused, but it is in combination with low defense. The only unique utility she brings at this point is her personal skill, and her stats leave a lot to be desired. Spear Master does improve her combat but also removes any utility she could provide, and locks her into being a combat unit that has to play catch-up. It's not like you can't use her, she's far more salvageable than her retainers, but she does need a good amount of favoritism to get up to speed. A far cry from how good she is in BR.

I wish she joined earlier so much solely because if she could get Wyvern through Camilla at a reasonable time she would be so incredibly strong. If she joined before/on Ch12 she could get A Support with Camilla by Ch18, or before Ch16 if they build support in 2 Paralogues/Invasions, but as it stands she only gets to go to Wyvern in Ch22 without doing any extra maps, which just guts her ability to get a good damage stack of Trample, Lancefaire and Strength+2 without factoring in a marriage, which comes even later.

@@Xertaron.Agreed, speedsters need enough HP or Defense to survive a counter attack, since their whole shtick is being able to double enemies. Thing is, doubling enemies doesn't matter if you can't survive the retaliation. It's why Hana is such a terrible unit. Hinoka definitely suffers from Rev's baffling join level decisions.

I like pushing Hinoka into Archer immediately since she starts with Darting Blow which allows her to put in good work against the flier boat map and the Ninja forest map. Quick support means you can do it without extra grinding. Surprised Samurai wasn't highlighted as a good class for Hinoka; maybe its outside the scope of the video, but marrying Subaki and passing down quick draw to Caeldori basically gives you two Hinokas with crazy player phase one rounding.

I think that the main issue with why Master of Arms wasn't considered to be as good as the Great Knight largely comes down to 2 things: 1) The Great Knight is arguably just better, as not only is it bulkier, but it has one more movement and elbow room for a damage boost as well. It's also worth noting that if you want to ever use Hinoka as a pair-up bot for another unit, being a Great Knight gives her partner +1 extra movement, and I think it also provides good strength and defense bonuses, too, which is quite important. 2) Getting Hinoka into the Master of Arms requires her to get an s support with either Hinata or Subaki, both of which aren't very good units that you probably don't really badly want to be deploying late-game as they will probably fall off sooner or later. That being said, I do think that if you want to commit to it, the Master of Arms is a pretty good class for Hinoka still, but it's definitely a bit of a budget Great Knight for her

Yeah I definitely get that Great Knight is a better ending class for her specifically, but outside of a vacuum and inheritance planning for the whole party, you have to sacrifice one of the things that pushes Silas to the moon (Cav/Mercenary/Ninja/Samurai access) by pairing him to Hinoka, instead of Hana (for example, what I typically do) He can use, but ultimately, doesn't want Sky Knight; he could be doing something much better. Honestly, most characters don't want Sky Knight either, and pairing Subaki quickly to give a way better class (Samurai) to a great unit (Hinoka) makes the party overall better imo than maybe making Hinoka slightly better, and Silas noticably worse.

I actually didn't plan on using her in my latest playthrough but really wanted that rallying cry buff, so she ended up taking my unmarried Azama and built friendship with Azura for the strategist onmyoji combo. Despite her shit magic, she was really useful anyway. BR midgame enemies are ridiculously easy, so she was just going in with chip damage and heals while giving out rallying cry and comraderie and picking up rally skills. By the end, she had a surprisingly good time with C staves, B lances and the skills demoiselle, inspiration, rally speed, mag, luck and res so she was just really useful. Ironically, all that time spent in troubadour made her mag stat acceptable enough that bolt naginata became more useful than the non effective weapons most of the time and having the staff option in falco was nice. It certainly wasn't the most efficient build, but it was pretty cool with how she could just be everywhere with really useful buffs and was self sufficient enough that I could mostly ignore her when I wasn't reclassing her.

The fact she was one of the first to die in my birthright hard mode iron man, and instead subaki carried my ass in the flier department. Just a funny thing lmao, this video got uploaded very close to her dying on my playthrough.

I've just started a lunatic br run and been using these videos as way more of a crutch than I care to admit so I'm making notes rn lol Edit: you can't make me actually consider running maid hinoka as well as paladin sakura why are you doing this to me I was even planning on marrying her to saizo anyway but maid is just funny aaaaa

I used Paladin Sakura on a hard br run I did and she was a beast so I highly suggest it

I try to guess which unit you're doing each week, and each week I've been wrong. ( I guessed hayato this week...)

I feel like she has plenty of options to take advantage of. Like Silas marriage giving her shelter and elbow room is great especially if she is in a flying class. She can get Rally Speed very easily. Demoiselle and Live to Serve via Maid, Rally Luck and Renewal is also an alternative for a support based Hinoka. Hinoka is just a really solid unit and contributor. You just need to figure out what to do with her. But once you have a plan and you are committed to it, she can do great.

I always make hinoka a Great Knight and watch her have an easy time with the game.

Hinoka is my favorite character from Fates so I was very happy to see this video, and I'm glad she can be recognized for just how good she is. Sure, she isn't literally Ryoma over there with his insane bases, prf, etc, but she's solid enough that you want to field her most of the time. I remember having a lot of fun with her in Rev by immediately making her a Spear Fighter, even if it limited her as well. In my current BR run I decided to pair her with Kaze and I want to see how absurd I can make her in Master Ninja, even if it's not "optimal". Maid is another option I had thought of before watching this video, and I might just have to try that another time. Though frankly I might just go balls to the walls and give her a Nohrian class from Corrin she can't typically get, like Wyvern or Cav.

YES HINOKA IS BEST!!!

For me I always just promoted her to kinshi knight and used when it was convenient but I never treated her as an exp target so she always fell off for me.

OK so I commented before about using maid hinoka and paladin sakura being funny and I now do actually have paladin sakura and hinoka is currently in the ninja classes but... actually is still gonna go maid maybe despite having ninja marriage??? Like obviously maid is supposed to be ninja lite but paladin sakura has genuinely left me low on staffers for ages and the aura stacking still seems fun so I'm thinking fuck it we ball? Lol Weirdly hinoka has ended up in ninja as a stopgap bc building support with azura is slow when I'm also trying to build support with azura and azama bc of my plans for their kids

One time i had not gained a single Strength point over base in 7 levels and i resent her ever since for it

i like to have hinoka marry silas because turning her into a great knight means you get bulk, speed, and power all at once.

Hinoka is such an awkward unit for me…yeah on paper, she’s good. But for some reason I always favor other units. I mostly forget about her 😭
