Fire Cider Remedy, by Rosemary Gladstar

www.learningher... Herbalist Rosemary Gladstar shares how to make Fire Cider, a cold and flu remedy that she formulated and shared with the world. This is a perfect remedy for someone who needs a fiery kick to his or her immune system. A blend of spicy and sweet flavors were combined to enhance your circulatory and digestive system. Will come in handy for those cold months when you're prone to sinus infections, or when you feel cold coming on. When you try this warming concoction, you won't want to go without it! Rosemary formulated this remedy and was the first to call it fire cider, decades ago. Shire City Herbals has unethically trademarked the name and claim it was all their idea. So, why buy it when you can inexpensively make your own fire cider? Special thanks to Rosemary for sharing amazing recipes like this with the herbal community for all to enjoy.

I've used Fire Cider for 2 years. It is amazing. I make a gallon at a time and keep it in the fridge It keeps just fine for a year. Shake it before pouring. I add fresh turmeric to mine. If you add fresh turmeric then you have to add peppercorns to activate the turmeric. I use this instead of getting a flu shot. I buy the smallest bathroom paper cups and fill it half full. During winter I take it on the average of about 5 times a week. In the warmer weather I take it about 2 to 3 times a week unless I’m feeling more aches and pains then I take it more often. When I take it faithfully it greatly reduces aches and pains from inflammation. I put everything in the food processor a little bit at a time until everything is finely ground. Then I add the cider vinegar and the fresh squeezed lemon and orange juices. Doing it finely chopped in the food processor makes the job a lot faster and a lot less smelly. Also when the ingredients are finely ground it will ferment quicker and be ready to use sooner. Strain it and store in glass containers with non-metal caps (I use the bottles the vinegar came in).

@Brand * tons of modern medicinal drugs are highly synthesized components extracted from plants, they just amplify it. we in the west have just succumbed to big Pharma's poison campaign. plant medicine is not like western pills but does have healing properties and can heal and/or prevent illness if used properly. people don't do it out of ignorance, like you. the American diet is wendy's, mcDonalds, papa johns, why do people put such junk in their body, and thats the masses? either they don't care, are lazy, or have been mentally conditioned by family habits and tv to think that is normal. Theres a'lot of things that are good and ignored by mainstream. people like you that form baseless assumptions are the problem.

I make what I consider a 'ginormous' batch of this every year so that I can share it with my family. Some of them just use it as a rescue remedy when they feel illness coming and some of them really love the taste so much that they use it as a cocktail base. Hubby and I just use it straight-up after it has been strained and had local honey added for our health during the winter. I've come back to this video of yours again and again and directed many people to watch it when they have questions about it too. Thank you for this precious resource.

I was so lucky because my mother was a nurse who didn't believe in pharmaceutical remedies, but natural herbs and weeds. I strongly believe in homeopathic and herbal medicine almost strictly. I had bacterial and fungal infection in my lungs lungs for 9 months. I had staph infection in my throat and sinuses for 8 months. Doctors kept refusing to give me antibiotics because I have liver disease, so my friend sent me a bottle of fire Cider tonic, told me to start by taking two tablespoons to the first day, increase it to for the second day, and then going to increase it to five until it's all gone. My infection was gone in 5 days.

I love fire Cider and all the ingredients are available in my garden. I would like to share that live in Ecuador and have learned that sometimes the simplest preps work! I had a lingering bronchial cough - sometimes better, sometimes worse - and had been on antibiotics. My LL got fed up with my horrid cough and forced her own elixir on me: about 1/4 jar of chopped garlic soaked in the local hooch to 3/4 full. wow. that was powerful. i think it made the germs happy and they just had a blissful death. LOL Another is plantain - the herb (NOT a weed). A local herbalist-massage therapist has an ironing board and iron in her treatment room. for my leg injury she did a deep massage then she gathered fresh plantain, ironed the leaves, applied them to my swollen calf and wrapped in bandages. wonderful remedy. Blessings

Anymore there are so many versions of this that Rosemary’s tutorial, even though now it’s 10 years old, is a thrill. This is the first time I’ve “seen” her “live,” but I’ve certainly seen her name dropped a lot in the herbal communities. I love fire cider. I have never put horseradish in it but I have tons growing in my yard. I am going to try it. My first recipe I followed the Ball canning. It was good. I then made a second batch and replaced the jalapeno with a red hot pepper. I do not care for it that spicy unless I have congestion and cannot taste. I don't like it diluted in teas but I like it straight; I mix mine 50/50 honey and fire cider which is very sweet; the honey is good for people that hate herbal tastes or getting used to a fire cider flavor.

You are remarkable! What a wealth of knowledge you are and a fantastic teacher. I've been studying plant and floral life remedies just for the last year. I often start to feel over-whelmed by the amount of information and that I'll never learn it all. But you have such a fun and calm nature in the way you teach that it is really calming yet encouraging. Thank You much!

Glad I found this video. Just made my first batch. I had purchased a quart size bottle on Amazon for $25. I made a full gallon and all the ingredients were a fraction of the cost to buy it. Thanks for posting.

I haven't made any in a couple-few years...life's been a whirlwind and I've honestly forgotten. I'm so glad to be reminded! The last batch, I eers! dried elderberries and some long peppers. Just some extra herbs I personally love. I wonder, does anyone have reasons to think this is a bad idea? Please, comment away! Cheers!

Thanks Rosemary, I too was wondering where in the way back in BC did you live? I live in the Crescent Valley in Upper Passmore, near Winlaw, BC, which is 45 minutes from Nelson... It is so great to live off the land and to learn how to heal ourselves with natural remedies! Be well!

Thank you for this recipe. Just a note, though. Horseradish doesn't help and aid in the digestion of fatty meat. It's bile that does that. If our gallbladder is functioning properly from consistently eating fatty meat like we're meant to. It releases the proper amount of bile to break fat down so we can absorb the nutrients in fat and meat. It's the plant foods eaten with a pot roast that are harder on our digestive systems. Horseradish is a natural anti-inflammatory, so it may help in alleviating some stomach upset and pain from the plants that are eaten with the fatty meat.

+RedBev59 It is entirely up to you! I know some people that only use fire cider when they are starting to feel under the weather and if they are sick, and I know some people that take a shot every single day. If you drink a shot (literally using a shot glass) of it every day, this could last about 2-4 weeks (depending how much liquid you use vs how much herbs). My friend usually makes 4 jars at a time and keeps them in a cupboard. They can sit for 6 months, up to a year. This page has some more info for you: mountainroseblog.com/fire-cider/

I followed this recipe and made fire cider. I ended up making three jars-two pints and one quart. Today is the day I can strain it and add the honey. My question is this: The quart jar remained a beautiful tumeric yellow color. One of the pint jars turned slightly dull yellow and the third pint jar turned pea green. All three jars were created at the same time with the same ingredients. What happened in the green jar and is it safe to use? Should I throw it away? Thanks!

If you reduce the maceration time, less of the constituents will be pulled from the plant material. The remedy may still work though - you could test it and see.

Because of the Vinegar. Vinegar naturally kills about 83% of mold. It is also anti-bacterial/viral/fungal...as is garlic. I believe Garlic also kills mold but I am not 100% sure. The general environment of that cider isn't a healthy one for molds/germs/bacteria.
