The RedRhino fire fighting vehicle was meant to be the first responder to prevent flames from spreading while waiting for the heavier pump trucks to arrive. Had the water hydrant not been stuck... they would have managed to control the flames alot sooner. Kudos to the NSFs who risk their lives in SCDF, ever ready to save lives and property! Singaporeans see your good work and are grateful:)

One single footage exposes a lot of the Singapore's fire brigade problems. Among others, you can see that the last small fire truck RedRhino arriving at the scene stopped with its wheel treading on a charged fire hose line, the best demonstration of what the poorest firemanship is. The situation is like a nurse treading on the air supply hose line for a patient whom she is applying rescue on in ICU.

That's the total reason we check our hydrants twice a year so if we find these things we can have them fixed or we know to go to a different hydrant. This aint rockett science. Its NEVER the men's fault its a management issue.

Dont talk so much la .. 1st the pump ladder DID NOT stop on the hose . He stop right before the hose . Mind u those fire engine drivers are called pump operator and they sure knw wht they are doing . 2nd , in all fire or rescue case , the first to respond is either the red rhino light fire attack vehicle or the firebike .. to do the best they can while waiting fr the big pumpers to come . 3rd , dnt blame them fr being slow or stupid .. the hydrant itself is hard to open . Why not u try and do it urself . 4th , the guy who is wearing smartly and not in full fire suit , he is a senior officer , it could happen that he was on his way to work or somewhere and he sees the fire and he render assistance .. To these firemen esp central firestation , u have my full respect . To those who doesnt knw anything , pls dnt be so judgemental . At the end of the day they are the ones doing the rescue ..

Zack Kyuzo Actually it was the second "Red Rhino" which parked on the feed line from the one side of the hydrant which was opened. I take it the idea behind the Rhino's is being smaller they can, hopefully, get through the traffic easier than the standard Fire Engines. I agree being judgmental of others is in bad taste, very bad taste.

Uh,. The first 'pump ladder' was not the problem. It was the vehicle that came in after them and parked by the hydrant. It is 100% clear they parked on the hose, then the camera pans to the guys with the hoses and they have no water flow. You can try to keep denying that but it is clear as day. 6:00 - 6:16

Why did the LF PO didn't give instruction to the firemen to just focus on supplying 1 line from hydrant first instead of wasting time on the jammed blank cap. Should have operated hydrant, used 1 line. Instead of wasting too much time. Luckily for them, there was an SCDF EP Day being held nearby and they received help. Central fire station pls buck up.

Thank goodness the fire is under control, however I am quite disappointed with the way the firemen tried to save the fire. 1. took so long to unlock the water hydrant and worst without proper tools. 2. the last vehicle drove it and stopped on the water pipe hence stopping the water flow. 3. one who is not in proper attire actually went to put out the fire. its a mess.

From what I see, they did have the proper tools to open the hydrant. it's just that the left cap of the hydrant refuses to come off. It would probably be better if they had decided earlier to ignore the stubborn cap and proceed on with just one side of the hydrant.

What a mess! I really expected a well-organized fire brigade in Singapore. They struggled to open one of the valves of one of the fire hydrants. The second "small fire truck" parked on one of the hoses - you can clearly see moments later that one of the firemen extinguishing the flames didn't have enough water pressure, and he was making signs about that. You can clearly see them running like zombies, not really knowing what to do.

That is why we the senior officers of the past fire brigade know your red rhino is useless. The first turn out crew is extremely critical. You either make it or break it. In this case, had the first appliance was a proper pumper, there is at least 10 mins of water to discharge into the fire to prevent flashover at minimum. Face the fact, red rhino is rubbish appliance. Scrap this s**t appliance and use your pumpers!

Dear Sir or Madam, Good days ! How are you ? Hope everything goes well at your place. It is my pleasure to contact you at this moment. I am Rina Yin from Public Plastic & Chemicals Co., Ltd We are professional manufacturer and supplier of water type fire extinguisher, foam fire extinguisher, Heat resistance water (foam) fire extinguisher, Vehicle fire extinguisher, Remote fire extinguishing control system ect . These products can be widely used into the Vehicle fire, cable fire, oil storage facilities fire, buildings(such as factory, hospital, hotel , school ) fire, kitchen fire, establishing forest fire isolation belt ect. The MCW series water (foam) fire extinguishers developed by our company has passed Germany BAM Certification, EU Reach Certification, Indonesia National inspections and ISO quality certification. Compared with the traditional steel cylinder fire extinguisher, our MCW series water (foam) fire extinguishers have the following advantages: 1. MCW can prevent or automatically put out the fire . You can put the MCW automatic fire extinguishers at the potential ignition places , once the fire suddenly occurs, the extinguisher will automatically start and put out the fire, so that , it can save the time for fire extinguishing ,and people no need to stand near the fire to operate the extinguisher to avoid being burned. If you need to put out the fire manually or by throwing method in some cases, MCW series also have the corresponding products. 2. MCW series fire extinguisher has more advantages than the traditional fire extinguisher on the extinguishing efficiency and foam usage. The traditional fire extinguisher use jet extinguishing method. It can not cover up the whole fire , so , the extinguishing time is longer, the foams utilization rates are lower and foams consumptions are more , which increases the extinguishing cost. However, MCW extinguisher use surface extinguishing method, when the fire occurs, MCW extinguisher start, and the foams evenly cover up the whole fire to put it out immediately. In this way, the extinguishing time is shorter, the foams utilization rates are higher and foams consumptions are less, which will greatly reduce the extinguishing cost. What you folks don't know is that service in the fire department over there is like service in the military... They draft the majority of their members who are in their early 20s who do a couple of years and move on... This isn't career shit like here in the US... it isn't viewed as a glamorous, gravy train job with benefits (and risks of course)... It's viewed more as a gritty necessity but since this port city/state as so much money, they do have kick-ass, top of the line equipment.

+Justa Bowler True a lot of them are National Service Men, but, but when you speak to them you'll notice that they are proud of what they do, and a lot of them stay on as Volunteers after National Service. Also Their training is one of the Best in the World. They just recently sent a bunch of their Lads to a Traninigcenter which is Unique in the Whole World located in Switzerland to be Trained in ways to extinguish Fires in Tunnels and underground Parkinglots. If you ever get a chance go to SG and visit a Fire Station it's a great experience!

At 6:34 I see someone running around the real fire truck with a section of 5 inch supply line. Doesn't look like he or anyone else knows why. I have my reasoning and I think he wants to get his fitness certification done before vacation starts

I was getting ready to watch a comedy movie then I came across this...not quite sure what to make of it all. I know things overseas work different than here in the states but this is bizarre. Starting with the arrival of the mobile water cannon with hoses attached to it that are bigger than the car or suv not sure what it is actually, then the guy with the personal water cannon strap to his back watering the plants. The bat mobile pulls up and stops on the water hose. The big truck pulls up and starts yanking a garden hose off. Makes for good youtube anyways.

earl0603 The "mobile water cannon" are actually large fire extinguishers, so large they are worn on the fire mans back. The "bat mobile"s are a very smart idea for somewhere like Singapore, where the traffic can be horrendous. I see from earlier comments they are call Rhinos, they are basically a compact fire fighting unit whoes job is to begin fighting the fire, until the main Fire Engines arrive. The "Garden Hose" is a 2 inch hose reel, as fitted to a large number of fire vehicles in Europe, The function of it is to allow quick access to water to fight a fire, because the hose reel is plumbed in to the water system on the engine, and the fact that the hose is a rigid design it does not require unrolling completely. I have seen UK fire crews put out a car fire quicker than the videos of American crews have even started.

Puckoon2002 All that is well and good, except for that the firefighters are totally inept. I have seen American firefighters put out car fires and house fires quicker that UK firefighters...

ffjsb Every car and house fire is completely different, you have no idea what actually goes into extinguishing and managing each. Every service has it's pros and cons. I dont even know why you brought up the UK... Singapore is in Asia :l

@Matthew Mcleod 30 years on the job Skippy...so I know all about firefighting. And if you'd read the post that I was responding too, you'd know why I mentioned the UK. Not to mention their style of firefighting is from the British influence since Singapore was a British Territory up until 1963.

Fire does not recognize race or culture, so blaming those factors for this very poor performance won't work. I see a fire department that doesn't train enough, doesn't check its equipment, including hydrants, and didn't recognize the potential of this fire. Purely amateur hour stuff here.

Fire hydrant outlet caps rusted and stuck are commonplace all over the world, but even the least experienced firefighters should know that he can break up the cap with a heavy hammer and get the job done. Hydrant outlet caps are usually made of soft metal (it doesn't make sense if they are not)and easily broken by striking with a heavy hammer. 😢😢😢 What the problems are haunting the SCDF or the mind of those Singaporeans who think the SCDF is the best in the world. 😢😢😢

Singapore really needs to stop going after heavy metal bands and girls on the street, and take that taxpayer money that is being wasted on that nonsense and invest in a real fire department.

Very bad firefighting operation here. If one blank cap of the hydrant is jammed, still can use the other side. 1 line from hydrant to LF. And two jets out via dividing breeching. The LF's sectcomm didn't know what he was doing! Based on my experience, 1 line from a hydrant is enough to support two 38mm jets. Very bad executed operation in my opinion.

I hope SCDF had demote all these fire fighters or sack them. Useless men. How on earth are you allowed to turn up without your BA and clearly struggling to don the BA in a minute. You guys have obviously not paid attention to the BAPT. I would fail you repeatedly in your BAPT.
