    Thank you for the video...What are the requirements by installing the smoke detector above the false ceiling and in the sub-floors, the rooms are data center and computer room.

    Hi. Thank you for your query so everyone will be aware of the requirements too. Like what I had explained in my tutorial here in this link kzread.info/dash/bejne/lGiKmK6KdNS7l5M.html, the requirements of having a fire alarm system or your fire detection varies depending on the type of the occupancy of the building and which code you are going to refer or if there is a local code in your country. However, there is a specific requirement especially for data center like in your example. For the protection of IT equipment from risk of fire, you may consult the requirement from NFPA 75. Refer to clause 9.2.2 of NFPA 75 2017 edition, above false ceiling and sub floors are required to be provided with automatic detection systems. You may need to consult NFPA 75 also for the fire extinguishing system requirement especially for this critical room.

    Hi 👋very useful video. Could you please explain pathway class designation and Building pathway survivability

  • @AllaboutFireProtection

    As a designer, we have an option to select from the Pathway class available from NFPA 72 if our locally accepted standard is NFPA or if our project specs require. Pathway class operates and summarize in the following manner when abnormal conditions exist within the circuit of IDC, SLC & NAC: Class A Provide redundant path Reports trouble signal from any single open, ground & single fault Circuit continue to operate from single open, ground & fault Class B No redundant path The circuit does not operate at any single open. Reports trouble signal from any single open & ground fault. Class X Same as Class A except that it can also operate at any single short circuit and reports trouble signal. The circuit can operate at a combination of open & ground faults. Pathway survivability requirements will depend on your local fire code or any code adopted by your country. Designers have an option from pathway survivability 0 - 2. This is basically an added protection aside from mechanical damage but also from fire attacks. Pathway survivability must have the following conditions: 0 - No requirement for pathway survivability. 1 - Any or more of the ff: 2-hour fire-rated circuit integrity (CI) cable 2-hour fire-rated cable system 2-hour fire-rated enclosure or protected area 2-hour performance alternatives approved by the authority having jurisdiction 2 - If the building is sprinklered, any of more of the ff: 2-hour fire-rated circuit integrity (CI) cable 2-hour fire-rated cable system 2-hour fire-rated enclosure or protected area 2-hour performance alternatives approved by the authority having jurisdiction

    @@AllaboutFireProtection I have an more doubt.. 1.What is the reason for non using any clean agent systems at substation/Battery room and indoor dry type transformer areas. 2.What is the requirement (height) of detector installation of bottom of the raised panel (false flooring) 3.Detectors installation Requirement of the cable trench area and substation basement. Please clarify about this

    @@aravindmuruga Hi Aravind, it's nice to hear from you again. In my response to item 1, the requirement of provision for fire protection always depend on which code and occupancy we intend to design. If it's already known that let's say sprinkler is required and we opt for an alternative solution like gas suppression system in the rooms you mentioned to avoid damages and business continuity disruption, we can always go for gas suppression system as it is intended to protect class C fire too. However, they are also not applicable in some applications where it is reactive to some chemicals and those are written in the manufacturer's manual so you should take care. Fire in Battery room like using lithium-ion where thermal runaway occurs cannot be protected by a gas suppression system unless there is a specific test conducted by the manufacturer that they can be used. Transformer room is excluded in sprinkler protection depend on the code you use and if the conditions are met like, min. 2 hrs fire-rated construction, provided with detection etc...(2) Detector can be mounted in any orientation shown in NFPA 72 for underfloor installation. (3) Check your code if fire alarm is required in that particular occupancy, obviously cable basement & trench are the part in a substation where we have a lot of combustibles like a group of cables hence this is the reason most designers propose to put detector in those areas.

    I have a question, there is beam ceiling with height of 5.5 m and the beam depth is 1.1m and distance between beams 1.6 m (this case is not as mentioned in the code so how to locate heat detector? Sorry another question related to integration between smoke and heat detector in one beam ceiling as my case above?

  • @AllaboutFireProtection

    @AllaboutFireProtection

    2 жыл бұрын

    Your spacing for heat and smoke detector for ceiling with beam construction are totally different in requirement. In your situation above, since the beam depth is more than 460mm but less than 2.4 mtrs, the spacing of heat detector at right angle to the direction of beam travel shall be 2/3 *listed spacing. While for smoke, since your beam depth is more than 10% of height which is 5.5mtrs and spacing between beam is less than its 40% of its room height, then smooth ceiling spacing can be used within each beam pocket while 1/2 of its spacing in direction perpendicular to the beam.
