    Well done team, this will end up as one of the all time classic Fiordland videos. The time and effort to film as much as you did needs to be celebrated. Thank you for sharing your adventure

    Wow! That means a lot. So many hours went into this film and it might not be the most seamless showcase ever, but it’s a fitting one we think. The work to cement the memories is well worth it. Thanks heaps for your comment, and glad you enjoyed it!

    Well presented. No camera can ever show how huge or dynamic the region is, you have to be there to believe it. Glad to see some nice looking animals back in the area.

    I totally agree, the country is huge, certainly makes you feel small. That was something I struggled with the most when filming was trying to capture the size and vastness of the land. All the more reason for people to try it themselves!

    Ive given up Lugging around DSLR's in the bush. You can get images that are just as good with an APS-C Sony IMO, Good on you for holding fire on those promising stags. Unfortunately you could get another group of Ballot winners another year that would clean up half of those young stags and think they have had an awesome hunt...

  • @chasingpeaks

    @chasingpeaks

    Hi Severlan, The weight of DSLR gear takes its toll for sure. Always thinking about and considering other options. You’re not wrong. Some parties will shoot these bulls but they certainly get an extra chance at surviving if we don’t shoot them. Consider the possibility we will bump into one of them again in the future. Better way of thinking than taking home one of these younger bulls. 8+ yr olds 👍

    Top notch video guys , extremely well put together. Well done. And hopefully educational for those people who say they only want to shoot a trophy but end up shooting a good stag or bull (that would have been a trophy in a year or two). Sounds like a worn record but we have to keep trying. I've got a canvas print on the wall of a good 14 point red stag roaring and that's my trophy from this year. It's far better to shoot a good stag with a camera rather than a rifle !

    I know both American wapiti(Elk) and European wapiti(Red Stag) have been introduced to New Zealand do you know/ think these animals are hybrids or are typically mostly the Red Stag variety?

  • @chasingpeaks

    @chasingpeaks

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi Blake, We have a very different herd of Wapiti. It is safe to say none are of Pure wapiti strain, anymore. They are hybrids. Thankfully with a very selective management programme the FWF (Fiordland wapiti foundation) have successfully got some Bulls testing in the 70%+ wapiti vs Red deer genetics. Only in the last 10 years has it become very evident the wapiti genetics are still strong with a lot of wapiti characteristics in body and antler.

  • @chasingpeaks

    Hey Mark! We certainly didn’t set out to bullshit anyone - it’s a shame you feel that way. We just wanted to show people our experience of Fiordland and try to capture the animals we saw the best we could. Unfortunately that is the nature of the Wapiti herd in Fiordland these days, a lot of cross breading with reds, and hopefully with the management of the area, over time we will see better quality of animals with the limited Wapiti genes we have left in the country. Hopefully we see a shooter next time! Cheers.

    You simply don't get it Mark...... The rugged terrain, the animals, the history, the weather and the challenge of the whole experience is what draws gutsy hunters like the chasing peaks NZ team to this majestic hunting location. You keep your Wapiti on the farm Mark - leave the Bulls of Fiordland to the real hunters!! Top effort Chasing Peaks NZ !!
