Lyrics:
Every single night
I endure the flight
Of little wings of white-flamed
Butterflies in my brain
These ideas of mine
Percolate the mind
Trickle down the spine
Swarm the belly, swelling to a blaze
That's where the pain comes in
Like a second skeleton
Trying to fit beneath the skin
I can't fit the feelings in
Every single night's alight with my brain

Everyone talks about the lyrics. For me it's the wondrous melodies she effortlessly wrests from strange, discordant chord progressions. It's jazzy but not jazzy. It's punk but not punk. Like all my favourite music, the melodies of this song make feel things I can't express.

She's dope as hell. I hated her when i was a teenager when she 1st came out. Dont know how old you are but "Criminal" became such a hit that the media made her a golden girl. Until they realized she wasnt playing along like a typical "pop" star would.... so naturally they turned around to knock her off that pedestal. Then i listened to the whole Tidal album and ive been listening to it at least once a month for the past 26 years!!!

People love to use the word “underrated” so loosely. Fiona has never been underrated, she has even won a Grammy. From what I know, her albums have all been highly acclaimed, and her current album is no exception. Just because she doesn’t get shoved into your face like Billie Eilish, Lady Gaga, and all the leading mainstream musicians, doesn’t make her underrated. She chose the path of art and music, not fame, that’s why her music is still very well represented and relevant. Her concerts all do really well, and that’s why she continues to make music, because she likes the response her music gets. I would hate to see her get overrated, because that would possibly mean that she wouldn’t have much say in what her music should sound like and where her career should be going, she’s in total control and I’m very happy to see where her music is going and how it continues to evolve. 🖤

I see a lot of people comparing Tracy Bonham to Fiona Apple on these comments and I don't get it. I mean Bonham is okay and if you prefer her songs to Fiona's well that's just a matter of preference. Songwriting is another story. I invite anyone to tell me 1 Bonham song that is even in the same league as the lyrics of Fiona Apple. Fiona weaves language and words together like no other artist has in a generation. Listen to the words. Or even better, read them like a poem. "My derring-do allows me to Dance the rigadoon around you But by the time I'm close to you I lose my desideratum and now you so now you have it..."

A incredible songwriter and singer. Fiona is really unappreciated. If she was making music during the 1960s and 70s she would be huge in the music industry. I don't understand the music industry anymore with these famous artists who just blare sounds in today's music and use autotune?

I let the beast in too soon I don't know how to live without my hand on his throat I fight him always and still O darling, it's so sweet You think you know how crazy How crazy I am You say you don't spook easy You won't go But I know And I pray that you will Fast as you can, baby Run, free yourself of me Fast as you can I may be soft in your palm But I'll soon grow hungry for a fight And I will not let you win My pretty mouth will frame the phrases That will disprove your faith in man So if you catch me trying to find my way into your heart From under your skin Fast as you can, baby Scratch me out, free yourself Fast as you can Fast as you can, baby Scratch me out, free yourself Fast as you can Sometimes my mind don't shake and shift But most of the time, it does And I get to the place where I'm begging for a lift Or I'll drown in the wonders and the was And I'll be your girl, if you say it's a gift And you give me some more of your drugs Yeah, I'll be your pet, if you just tell me it's a gift 'Cause I'm tired of whys, choking on whys Just need a little because, because I let the beast in and then I even tried forgiving him, but it's too soon So I'll fight again, again, again, again, again And for a little while more I'll soar the uneven wind, complain and blame the sterile land But if you're getting any bright ideas, quiet dear I'm blooming within Fast as you can, baby wait watch me, I'll be out Fast as I can, maybe late but at least about Fast as you can leave me, let this thing run its route Fast as you can, fast as you can Fast as you can, fast as you can

Actually there is a lot more to fiona apple than just her voice. She writes all of the music and lyrics herself. Unlike Beyonce and the stupid crap we see so much of today. She is the real deal. Complete, sincere, and competent. A true musician and never given enough credit for it. So many female musicians need to learn from her and not from fake pop music where the "singer" adds or merely changes one or two words of the song and is credited as a songwriter. Tell all your friends who Fiona Apple is and let it be seen what a real performer can do.

@@TaxReligionNow again another male dragging females, why didn’t you pick bieber who straight out sucks? Beyonce’s an incredible vocalist and performer, I personally think her songs are shallow and yeah she’s been told to act sexy like all managers tell their women products, but shut up already. No woman needs to learn or shit, there are different stuff in life and you cherry pick the best. I thought like you before, but Beyonce is simply appealing to an audience, and Fiona could never because women need to be more like beyonce to be famous
