@ok nimi The fact that it was forced doesn't mean that it isn't official war. As was stated previously 8000 people died, Rovaniemi was burned to ground along other smaller villages and german s-mines or bouncing bettyes and landmines are still found on Laplands forest. They are rare, but are still found.

I can already tell that finnish people love you. Us finns, you know get excited when someone (not a finn) mentions finland. So you might be one of our biggest idols😂

Nobody uses the term Fennoscandia apart from some weather men perhaps. Firstly we are Finns, secondly Nordic and thirdly European. Scandinavia comes from the peninsula where the Scandes (mountains) are. Since it refers to only Sweden and Norway plus Denmark, the term Nordic countries / Nordics is the best way to describe the entire area in Northern Europe.

Video: "census isn't done every year, some countries do it every five or ten years" Finland has this thing called *population* *registry.* They log into it births, deaths, people moving in and out. Not complicated. So at any given time you know the number of people living in the country. Nobody does censuses here like in the US trying to figure out that information going from door to door or sending out letters 😂

Finland did not have a mutual agreement with Germany before and during winter war 1939-1940. Actually then Germany and Soviet Union were allies. They had Molotov-Ribbentropp pact.

"Happiest country" sounds so unbelievable to me, since we always seem so crumpy and sad. We love our own space and the stereotype is, that we would rather pay 100€ so that our neighbour doesn't get 50€. Not to mention how "common" it is to have some sort of anti-depressants, its like "oh, which one did you get? I got this, but I've also had this and this and this".

A good fact to know about the Finland Russia relationship, is that Finland never actually was a part of Russia, it was an autonomy with its own government and currency. Do not mix the Soviet and Russia. They are totally different.

One thing about finnish civil war that is often misunderstood even in Finland is that the "red guard" were not communist. There ofcourse were communist in the leadership and in the members, but fast majority of them were social democrats or just fed up poor farmers that could never own land of their own felt mistreated. There is alot more to the war than that, but video painted a pretty misleading picture of the event. Also saying the white guard were on the side of the people is...debatable.

We also have more saunas than cars. We have priorities

That funny wife carrying competition is mentioned in every story about Finland, but it's not so usual anyway. I'm a Finn, and I've never been carried my wife or even seen those competitions. Actually most popular sports in Finland are ice hockey and formula 1. However, I like this video. :)

One day I was waiting for the bus at the bus stop when this odd looking tall man with a beard came up to me. He told me he needs to take the bus but he has no money. Being the good and friendly Finn that I am, I took out my wallet and asked him how much he needs. "I need about tree fiddy", he said. It was at this moment I realized it was the god damn Loch Ness Monster again and I told him "Go away Loch Ness Monster, you ain't getting money!" So yes, he does hide in Finland.

We also have air guitar world championships. We used to have sauna world championships, but a contestant died. Another Finnish fact: all the Finns would fit in the sauna at the same time. We have more than 2 million of them.

Actually, the whole sauna competition ending is worth reading about. The person who died was a russian I think? And the second place went to a finnish man who also didn't fair so good. Still alive, I believe. Basically the whole idea was, whoever can handle the heat the longest, wins.

@@RPWT_ Yes, the dead man was Russian. He used pain killers, which were absolutely forbidden. The other guy, a Finn, burned badly, but got well and still goes to sauna.

Finland had it's own Facebook about 4-5 years before Facebook called irc-galleria.net/ it's still online, but not so active anymore after Facebook became available for us as well

The Loch Ness creature or Nessie amongst friends is definitely hiding in one of the lakes in Finland. I don't think anyone knows exactly which one. Probably just moves around to avoid exposure. Clever Nessie. My suggestion for part 5 of reacting is Lauri Tähkä - Palavaa vettä.

Well, the Scandinavia thing - if it's defined geographically, it includes Sweden, Norway and North-West Finland (so that excludes Denmark). If it's defined based on the language, then it includes Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, Faroese and Icelandic. So the concept of Scandinavia comprising of Sweden, Norway and Denmark is pretty artificial - especially when you consider that Swedish is an official language in Finland, but on the other hand, there are native Sami speakers in Sweden and Norway. So if you define Scandinavia as a country where the majority of people speak a Scandinavian language and it's a monarchy, then you get Sweden, Denmark and Norway. There aren't many other ways to group the countries like that. That kind of definition is mostly used by the people from Denmark, Sweden and Norway when they think they're too hip for the Finns and the Icelanders :D

Yes most was true but here in finland (suomi) it is also called the land of a thousand forests and lakes and simo had over 200 confirmed kills during the winter war also our spread out nation helps with going to the summer cabin, and so you may not see anyone and allowing you to fully relax in the middle of no where haha
