Finishing Wet Corn Harvest
We finished filling the pit at the main farm and then started getting the new pit at the north farm filled.
Welcome to Sonne Farms!
On this channel we showcase numerous jobs a Corn/Soybean/Beef producing operation takes on each day. Hop in the cab or sorting alley with Cole and see how life really is for the people that help feed the US and the rest of the world. In addition to Corn, Soy, and Cattle, Sonne Farms puts up grass and alfalfa and sells pure bred Black Angus Bulls.

Sooo good to meet the Big Boss of the operation. She is beautiful, tell her so, Cole & so young!🍁🍁🦋🌷🇨🇦
Thank your Mom for the cameo, she was great! Auto steer, lunch - very suttle.
Nice to see your mom. I think this is the first time she has been in your videos. Looks like she takes good care of you. Hope the rest of harvest goes well without too much rain and snow. After seeing the video of you building the corn pit it is great to see it in operation.
Thanks for taking the time to make these videos. I enjoy seeing what's going on
First time seeing Mrs. Sonne featured in your video. What a lovely lady your mom is.

We finally get to see mom
I enjoy all of your videos,thanks for taking time to make them.
Pure Team Effort!! That is awesome to see. Everyone has a job to do to make the farm work and succeed. Great video's, keep up the good work!!
Great clarity picture 😀👍🏾😀👍🏾 thanks
Great Vlog. Always enjoy them.
Great video
Happy November on a Saturday morning from South Jersey🤓👍🏻🇺🇸
You ever wear a step counter? On days like this would be interesting to see how many miles you put on, you where doing some hustling loading that bunk.
Cole hope the weather gods out for ya.
Great content. I follow your chanel for some time and I must say that I get inspired and motivated to get some work done at my place when watching your videos. Since the daylight time is getting shorter, can you mention the exact time (clock) and temperature more often when you anounce your activities, that would be great. Keep it up and have fun :)
You should have some gravel brought in to give yourself a good base for your annual and daily requirements. Great video - keep them coming!
great video is it difficult to learn to fly a drone you also have a great farm thanks for the videos.

Nice MOM!
Any idea how many bushels an acre your getting in corn this year ? Part of the video with the drone was great.

Its funny, i've been waiting for someone to comment on me not putting my pants over my boots! It does look weird but personally I think it is a lot more comfortable. But it does suck because mud and corn get funneled right to my foot

I'm not a farmer but I do gardening and I like to tuck my pants into my boots because if they drag on the ground they get dirty and then the dirt drags into the house, so tucking them in helps with that, plus it is a fashion statement haha

Thanks & question pls. Why crack the corn and why wet the corn--seems like it would ferment, grow mold & spoil before it was used up? Does it freeze? You working hard!
@SonneFarms
4 жыл бұрын
Good question, we crack it to allow lactic acid bacteria grow quickly, and within a matter of days the pH drops really low, so nothing else will grow in the cracked corn
Great content. Really nice to see how the harvest works in an other corner of the world. But i don't get it. I understand what wet corn is but why you dont use the whole plant? A bit earlier when the plant got around 32% to 35% dry mass it makes a wonderfull silage. Called GPS in Germany ( whole plant silage). Got 66% energy out of the corn and 34% energie out of the plant. Or is it a thing of energy density in the feeding?
@SonneFarms

We do silage as well but we use sorghum, everyone farms differently and we like to have separate pits for silage and corn, that way we know exactly what is being put into the mixer wagon when we are making the ration
Hey mum, yeah we just got our 4th snow as we're trying to get our flax off, Farmageddon can suck it!!
How many bushels does 5e hopper hold vs the wagon?
👏👏👏👍
Would some form of tamper plate work to pack the corn?
if the grain was that dry why didnt u let it snow or rain on it or would it not soak down throw it or would it just say on top and spoil the top
Curious, how long does it take and how many acres to fill? Awesome drone footage.
@SonneFarms

It depends on how well it is yielding, but sometime around 2 acres worth can fill the combine

Yea yields were not that great since we had poor planting conditions plus a lot of drowned out spots. We are usually happy with yields above 170
Cole you mention you are "Bringing loads". I'm assuming when you harvest you have somewhere to store it. I saw you had a silo but it didn't look that big. Are you storing at the Co-Op or do you have storage I've missed?

My dad and other farmers sometimes call that bees-wings. Its just a part of the cob that comes off with the corn and its pretty fluffy and is always floating around when youre moving corn

hi :D
Why don't you run the combine
4:23 How in the WORLD did you not say something about eating corn while you were cracking corn???
So much work! At 9:20 this is the "pit?" Why do you put the corn in here? Is this where it drys or what? Is that the corn used to feed the cattle? Oh! I'm #700!! Yeah!
@SonneFarms
4 жыл бұрын
We pack it in there to its pH level lowers and the quality stays good. Then it is easy to feed since it is right there in the pit and we dont have to pull it out of the grain bin. Also since it is cracked, it is easier for the cattle to break it down.

6:02 I come from the construction world not the farm world. In the construction world we never, I say NEVER, leave a bucket of a loader up in the air. So, why dose Cole leave the bucket up? Is there a 'farm' reason? Just asking a question. Not trying to make any trouble. Thank You.
@SonneFarms
4 жыл бұрын
Good question. I understand that there is potentially more stress on the equipment and also the bucket could fall down without warning. We do this sometimes because we are in tight quarters and lifting it up gets it out of the way. But in this case at 6:02, there is no reason why the bucket was in there air, I probably should have lowered it
Great video
