A stroke of genius by Honor to send you the phone already disassembled! They probably figured you'd break it when testing it, and you would therefore not do a tear down of it, so they made you assemble it first and then break it!

@daruyami
10 ай бұрын
Actually it's the reverse - they would have to disassemble already assembled phones. The same happens with the Framework laptops - they need to assemble them first to test if they work like they should (and if they even are assemblable in the first place, defects happen) and then if you chose the disassembled version then they have to disassemble them. There somewhere was LTTs video where he has shown the factory of Framework laptops where he also explains this process.

@devnol

As a nerd I would kill to be able to do that but warranty liability would like to have a word with us. Other than that, I would see this as an absolute win since production costs can be reduced by cutting out on assembly. However, this may counter-intuitively not always be the case. Framework for example, will sell you a diy kit for their laptop where you have to assemble it yourself (or at least populate the barebones parts like storage, ram and networking) but as the somewhat recent factory tour by ltt showed, they still need to assemble, and then in some cases even DISassemble the device in the factory for qa and test purposes, meaning that it actually is more time and resource-intensive to have such a diy offering. If you actually read all this I sincerely apologize for wasting your time but also thanks, you rock!
@Wynorrific

@@devnol I feel like warranty liability could work. If we can make desktops from parts that can cost thousands and get warranties, I think we can do so with some phone parts
It's actually genius. Instead of sending you pre-assembled phones that get destroyed during the tear down, sending you the unassembled parts to assemble them yourself serves the same purpose of the tear downs while still keeping the phone alive. Also as a bonus it's really satisfying to see all those tiny parts come together to make a working phone. Great video.

I've had my ZFold 4 since launch morning and I love it. I would highly recommend a folding phone as a daily phone. I also own a z fold 4 and love it. But I would not recommend it for most people, it is a really cool and impressive piece of tech but 99% of people would not make any use of the hardware, and would only use it to show off and brag. There is no need for a device on the cutting edge just to mindlessly scroll on tiktok. That said I will probably never go back to single screen phones either.
