A lot of teachers forget what it is that other people find confusing in the beginning, since they are so used to working with it everyday. Also, a lot of math teachers are obsessed with proofs, and forget to build up some bare minimum level of intuition and "feel" for things.

When I learn formulas I spend a good few minutes working out *why* the formula functions to solve the problem. Now using it like written calculator, but really trying to recognise the reason it works. I cannot for the life of me work out *why* this equation works -- just that it does.
