We are in the beginnings stages of moving to Italy. My husband's great grandfather and grandmother are of Italian descent and I just found out that my mom's birth dad is of Italian descent as well. We are super passionate to get to know our ancestry!! We have started the most important part, learning the language.

Great interview! I stayed with Ashley and Jason in 2013 for a weekend....and my time wasn’t long enough. They are incredible hosts, Jason made the cooking classes fun and the Inn is fabulous! I totally recommend it to anyone wanting an Italian experience away from the tourist track from Rome-Florence-Venice. Ashley is just as ebullient in person as she is during this interview! I can’t wait to go back!!

You crack me up when you talk about living in that tiny little town of 2,000. I retired in a real tiny village in Central Greece with a population of 300! I guess it's all relative, isn't it!! :) I so relate to so many of your experiences - like, I tell couriers delivering packages to me to just stop at the cafe and ask where the American lives!

Beautiful success on working together and finding a home , both in geography and home in your heart. I was born in Sicily and came to the USA with my family at 5 years old. Now nearing retirement I wonder about lifestyle and such ,, and thinking about Southern Italy . I just want a warm place, that you can walk and bike more, good food , nature, and people .... I just worry about being accepted and probably considered "American" now. PS, don't worry about the dialect , as long as you know both , Italian and the dialect. So when you travel outside of that area , then you have to be willing to switch to proper Italian. As a young guy in America , I was aware that we spoke Sicilian at home and I did not know Italian , so with other Italians here that could switch I felt very shy ,, lets say..

Excellent channel and interview.Your timing is good because there seems to be a surge in interest for all things Italy,especially in the U.S. We bought a home in Italy 4 years ago and I fully agree that it is very important to learn the language and immerse yourself in the culture. If you want to transplant your language and way of life in their country as we see some people do then it may not be the best place for you. Subscribed and thumbs up!

While I’m glad this couple were successful in creating their new life in Italy, we should remind these ladies that the American dream was unique to America as millions of Italians migrated to the US without English, zero money, skills yet to be learned, family and many times arrived with illness and yet many became wildly successful and changed the trajectory of America. This is the American dream.

So do they live in a high crime area? Wondering because you never see barred windows here except in areas where there’s a lot of crime.

No, but they are in a remote location. Although you'd have to ask Ashley and Jason, I believe that bars are more for a safety reason since most historic homes in Italy do not have screens. Thanks for watching the interview!

The bars on the windows on the ground floor (1st floor in the Americas) are quite normal in the "older" buildings. New apartment buildings have dwellings starting on the first floor (2nd floor in the Americas) and the ground floor is "empty".

Non posso parlare per Ashley e Jason, ma credo che gli americani che si trasferiscono in Italia stiano cercando uno stile di vita più semplice: lavorare per vivere e non vivere per lavorare. Come chef, Jason cercava una vita per cucinare ciò che veniva dalla sua terra o dalla sua comunità. Naturalmente, le cose sono diverse a causa della pandemia. Tuttavia, quando inizia il turismo, possono condividere la loro esperienza con gli altri. Grazie per il tuo commento! 👍🏻 ~ Lisa

Sono Italiana e ho vissuto in Texas e a DC. Gli USA non sono più quel paese in cui tutto è possibile come 100 anni fa. Se hai soldi e almeno is master o dottorato tutto puoi, ma se sei una persona "media", o peggio un operaio, una commesso ecc, stai meglio in Italia

ReCycle Spinning A simple American dream is owning your own place And in their case happened to be in Italy and they are content with that! Wishing them the best is the least you could do.

I really hope she has improved her Italian ... as the way she pronounces italian words ...gosh ... or maybe she’s one of those Americans or English native speakers anyway who thinks that it’s other counters that have to adapt and speak English ...

It sounds like they are really working hard at it and no they do not expect people to speak English. They are living in the countryside. For anyone learning a language, it is often very hard to lose your native accent.

@@LiveInItalyMagazine it’s not a matter of accent but of pronunciation , I’m from Italy and I’ve lived For 7 years in London , I speak English with a right pronunciation even though I’ve never lost my accent , the woman pronunces Italian words like someone from an English speaking country who has never heard those words before .
