I watched 'The Lost Leonardo' and one thing struck me that Dianne is forever more haunted by The Salvator Mundi. She said it never leaves her and I came away feeling sad for her. I personally believe that some areas have Leonardo's autograph, the lips for example and I hope I live long enough to see this sublime painting in the flesh.

Exactly. Priceless. Sacred. I will dare to say, this painting is holy, as if painted by an angel assigned by God to create this great masterpiece. Painted by a student, or da Vinci, or a consummation of a divinely inspired Conservator? The painting is divine, we can clearly see that. It inspires awe, the sight of it. Seeing it has transformed me, and my ideas as a practicing artist, about the role divinity may actually play in the revelation of itself, through human excellence, on the part of an exalted artist, and beyond the artist, the greatest Conservator honored to restore the work, and bring it back to life, as perhaps never before. The level of sublimity demonstrated in it's highest degree, by the Conservator, so generous and eloquent, to share with us her loss. I have tried to paint several paintings of da Vinci, and for some reason, the lips are impossible to paint. Her retouching went great, but she confronts the lips. And she said it. Like I had said it.. only Leonardo could have painted it..

It was my aunt and uncle who had it in there home for almost 60 years.... there are in heaven now and are probably giggling with glee that they had owned this. Maybe they are giving Leonardo a high five up in heaven. Sad, however, that when my cousins sold this in the estate sale, they had no idea what it was......obviously...... they got about 2k for it....

Dianne Modestini did not restore this painting. She repainted 80-90% of it. There is also no provenance or documentation proving that this painting is truly by Leonardo or that it was ever owned by any royalty. If you want to know the full story of this painting, read The Last Leonardo by Ben Lewis and judge for yourself whether or not this painting is what the vested interests claim it to be.

@@commonsense31 There was no documentation whatsoever in declaring this painting to be a DaVinci. Two things were done - First, there was a visual examination by DaVinci experts in both the US and Europe who deemed the painting to be authentic based on style and on quality. Second, an analysis was done on the paint, canvas, and wood frame to date the painting to the 16th century and trace the origin of the materials used to northern Italy. Those checked out but of course an exact date couldn't be given. The painting could have been done later in the 16th century after DaVinci's death. Now do you think those alone are good enough to prove authenticity of a painting done by a master that could be worth tens or even hundreds of millions of dollars? Given the monies involved, there was certainly an incentive to declare this painting to be genuine.

During the 80s there was a documentary about the mona lisa where they were allowed to show close ups of the mona lisa and the expert shows da vinci used his fingers to mix paint and create textures on the painting. Da vinci’s print were all over it. He said “that is better than a signature” So now i am wondering when they try to authenticate it that they couldn’t find any prints on the salvatore mundi.

Art Conservators are all historians, performance artists and extremely intellectual thinkers…they are so constrained by the original artist’s style, so much so that they must meticulously study it and become familiar enough with it to mimic it as closely as possible while taking the _correct_ creative liberties where the canvas is far too damaged to really know what the original artist did…I can’t begin to say how much respect I have for them…

No one else could have painted it.....she did! Lots of touch up repainting.

Finding out it's not DaVinci? PRICELESS....

There's just too much money and fame to be made from declaring this a work of the Grand Master himself that it casts an unfortunate shadow of doubt over all those involved with it's restoration, sale, auction and display. It's a shame as I actually like this painting regardless of the authenticity.

Well, it sorta IS Leonardo, just not in the shape and form as it were ''restored'' into. Look at the cleaned version, the modelling and realistic features of the painting are excellent, albeit there are significant damages. Modestini gave the picture an artificial cartoonish 2D appearance, that can no longer be called a Leonardo by any stretch of imagination..

Well As it has been confirmed through Research and Historic notes, History books and all the Experts that has spend a lifetime studying the tiniest method and tiny deviations of Leonardo DaVinci. I think I'm gonna trust the Evidence presented and the experts. And not some random Painters on KZread, That has some valid Trust issue with Authorities about something that was sold for 400Million USD.

true knowing comes from a realm of true perfection...in this perfect realm, knowing what is true is both immediate and direct...it is a function of the divine heart...one does not have to engage in the thought processes of the mind....the divine heart reads energy....the information is all in the energy of a thing....what is true has an energetic frequency of truth...of course, this is something which we all possess...sadly, i have found few people on this planet that have managed to untangle themselves from all the illusions to function as the divine being they truly are...however, there are now more cracks in the dam, so to speak...the rushing river of light will not be held back much longer

I wonder if insurance companies offer policies for artwork authenticity ? I can’t imagine someone spending that much money on a piece of art that has soo much skepticism ! The build up to legitimise the sudden found battered painting is absolutely disgusting. What is disgusting is the original owners only got $700 after the dealers bought online for $1200 and immediately assigned Martin Kemp to ble$$ the battered plank. Literally major inCONsistencies in provenance and the attribution is very controversial. The Pentimento theory or thumb duplicate is a classic forgers trick. Any decent forger would know how to manipulate a close inspection. Beltracci did brillaint fakes for years as Sothebys continued to sell his works via dealers. Carlos Slim was sold multiple fakes of Modigliani and other works with the authentication validated by multiple experts. The Mundi is just another Delusion for The Masses. The Modestini Mega Makeover ensued without any disclosure or scrutiny. Apparently there are no physical HD pre 2005 photos. In other words there is no evidence to view any microbial aspects or deduce chronology to cross examine. Modestini jazzed it up over 4+ painstaking years whilst at the same time it's public profile was glorified by Martin Kemp who happens to be the convenient Da Vinci armchair academic expert. Martin Kemp single handedly started to process of instigating and planted the seed to suggest there is a possibility of the hand of Da Vinci (without providing ANY EVIDENCE to support the sudden theory) This Mundi saga was to appease 'The Bouvier Affair' as Sothebys were about to get brought to task for back to back Art Flipping. What is hilarious is The Arabs would actually buy a 'Controversial Christ.' Even Judas must be giggling.!! The Saudis bought it to SLAP DOWN their little irritating nemesis 'Qatar' whom are currently as Sovereign World Art Champions with Billions invested in Arts and Highest Profile World Record Prices paid for paintings. Martin Kemp is a corrupt and vested interested entity. Ref. Bella Principessa. He is a laughing stock in the Old Masters world but he is crucial to Museums as their balance sheets are dependent on footfall and merchandi$e. Why do you think the ONLY ACCEPTED Da Vinci's are ONLY IN TOP END MUSEUMS !!!! Martin Kemp & Cohorts Luke Syson and Nicholas Penny proceeded to glorify the Salvador Mundi via exhibiting it in the UK National Gallery whilst other renowned experts with integrity didn't want their name bestowed with Da Vinci Artworld Corruption. Incidentally, there are 4 copies of The Mona Lisa. The original was stolen 1911 only for the retrieved replica reinstated at The Louvre whereby it was restolen by The SS during WWII. The Louvre keep absolutely quiet about this. I hate to tell you this but there is a lot more than just The Mundi Fraud.

To declare this attempted restoration can be attributed as a original da vinci is a absolute disgrace, then to say that the restoration mistakes are some how a stroke of genius of his hand, doing so rewriting art history just compounds the insult. The whole painting is off now and should have been left well alone after it was cleaned. How could this possibly be declared a original de vinci when even if geniuses played a part in his workshop paintings, they can only be described as such, let alone some 21st century restorer.

Great work

In the doc, note how Dianne looks down and away from the camera when discussing her compensation. She fully admits she helped to promote the painting as being a Leonardo and essentially wanted to get paid for championing the attribution. People like to romanticize the integrity of folks who claim to love something, but anthropologically speaking, why would she be any different than everyone else who saw an opportunity? The two concepts of love and greed are not mutually exclusive, of course, but behavioural science does expose our complex but true nature.

The crystal while accounted for historically, in the restored version is completely an embellishment. There is no way of knowing if it looked that way originally. The remainder is fairly close to what it probably looked like after initial completion by Da Vinci.

Is it just me or does the Mona Lisa and Salvador Mundi, bear a sticking resemblance to one another. The same eyes soft eyes and same nose. If you super impose one over the other, they look suspiciously to be the same person.

Regardless of the authenticity it’s very unfortunate that the painting is hidden in a private collection instead of a museum for everyone to see

The build up to legitimise the sudden found battered painting is absolutely disgusting. What is disgusting is the original owners only got $700 after the dealers bought online for $1200 and immediately assigned Martin Kemp to ble$$ the battered plank. The Modestini Mega Makeover ensued without any disclosure or scrutiny. Apparently there are no physical HD pre 2005 photos. In other words there is no evidence to view any microbial aspects or deduce chronology to cross examine. Modestini jazzed it up over 4+ painstaking years whilst at the same time it's public profile was glorified by Martin Kemp who happens to be the convenient Da Vinci armchair academic expert. Martin Kemp & Cohorts Luke Syson and Nicholas Penny proceeded to glorify the Salvador Mundi via exhibiting it in the UK National Gallery whilst other renowned experts with integrity didn't want their name bestowed with Da Vinci Artworld Corruption. Martin Kemp single handedly started to process of instigating and planted the seed to suggest there is a possibility of the hand of Da Vinci (without providing ANY EVIDENCE to support the sudden theory) This Mundi saga was to appease 'The Bouvier Affair' as Sothebys were being revealed for back to back Art dealing called Flipping. Literally major incosistencies in provenance and the attribution is very controversial. The Pentimento theory or thumb duplicate is a classic forgers trick. Any decent forger would know how to manipulate a close inspection. Beltracci did brilliant fakes for years as Sothebys continued to sell his works via dealers. Carlos Slim was sold multiple fakes of Modigliani and other works with the authentication validated by multiple experts. The Mundi is just another Delusion for The Masses. What is hilarious is The Arabs would actually buy a 'Controversial Christ.' Even Judas must be giggling.!! In my own opinion, The Saudis bought it to SLAP DOWN their little irritating nemesis 'Qatar' whom are currently as Sovereign World Art Champions with Billions invested in Arts and Highest Profile World Record Prices paid for paintings. Martin Kemp is just another corrupt and vested interested entity. Research... Bella Principessa. but he is crucial to Museums as their balance sheets are dependent on footfall and merchandi$e. Why do you think the ONLY ACCEPTED Da Vinci's are ONLY IN TOP END MUSEUMS !!

Personally it think this painting is fake. The eyes are crooked, the hand that’s held up is off, there’s no blue color from the shirt between the thumb and finger. The reflection in the orb Is wrong. Leonardo would not have made these mistakes.

Dear God no one has seen it since the Saudi Prince paid over four hundred million blood and oil dollars for it. It was supposed to be displayed in the (Abu Dhabi?) "Louvre" museum, but its arrival has been delayed multiple times with no answers given. ..

The thing is if I owned the Painting. I would Secretly install in Her Home with the best Security protections money could buy. And I would let her keep it in her possession Secretly, So no one would know she had it. The way she talked about the Painting, And the entire restoration and conversations with the painting as a way to remember her Husband. I feel that it would only be the right and honorable thing to do, I could wait until she was no longer with us to have it personally. Also Often these amazing work or art and History, are bought and just moved to a High security facility in a box. Until the next owner would sell his investment. Because it is an investment, It sold for 400 Million in Auction. That will be close to the starting price next time it comes up for auction.

It belongs in the Louvre.

Agreed, not a Leonardo, who's figures are always twisting and turning against the light. This is far too simple to be a Leonardo. However, I believe the facial features are impressive and may have been touched by the master himself. It has that hazy dream affect akin to the Mona Lisa.

Unfortunately, the beauty of this painting is constantly overlooked other than its monetary value.

Not really interested in her feelings toward the painting, to be blunt. Read Ben Lewis book. This is not a Leonardo painting and Diane’s questionable restoration process needs further investigation.

Prefer it just cleaned. Now it’s a painting by the restorer. It looks cross eyed 😵 now.

With a general public that doesn't understand the fact that Leonardo had a workshop full of followers and copyists (like the de Predis brothers, who were responsible for the inferior version of the *Madonna of the Rocks* in London's National Gallery), you could get away with calling the *Salvator Mundi* a work by Leonardo...if it hadn't been in an utterly ruined condition when found. But it *was* ruined. This piece wasn't "restored": it was completely repainted. What you see is almost entirely the work of the repainter. It's not a Leonardo; it's not anything. The *Salvator Mundi* is a modern-day fabrication based on a surviving fragment of a painting by a Leonardo pupil or imitator.

One of the greatest scams in the art world of this century.
