Finding Seashells at Hervey Bay | Giant Wentletrap! Seriously, it's HUGE

Ойын-сауық

WHAAAAAAT?!?! Well, to say I was gobsmacked was an understatement! It was an absolutely massive day of shelling: heaps of scallops and clams in the morning, and an overload of sweet swirly snail bros in the afternoon. That Wentletrap, my goodness, it's a dream find for me!! What a crazy day; I must've had a smile on my face for the entire three hour drive back home! Thanks for watching!
See part 1 here: • Finding Seashells on t...

I didn't even realise that Hervey Bay and it's surrounding beaches had such lovely seashells until I saw "Shellcade Shelling Down Under" - I admired him a lot, and you can also check out his videos here:

    G'day Youni 👋🏻🐚 Oh my goodness, I absolutely adored the Biggenden Land Snail 🐌❤️ this one still had some colour but it had lost a lot as well... These shells are usually a much darker and more vibrant colour!! Oh, and of course, the Wentletrap is fabulous 🤩 Thank you so much for watching 🥰

It was a super dreamy one to find; I think I was smiling for the entire multi-hour car drive home 😂 and Melissa, you will surely find a Wentletrap one day too!!! Ahh those Moon Snails 🐌 were also lovely; they were all hiding under the green algae this time, so sneaky! Thank you so much for watching 🥰

    G'day Wanda 👋🏻💖 I know right, it was just massive and I can't believe no one else spotted it and picked it up before I noticed it!! Yes, so many other great shells too: the different Nutmegs were super cool (the black one was fun) and gosh, the Strombuses too!! Silly me forgot to put out the land snails right at the end too, but I also really liked that one! As always Wanda, thank you so much for joining me on another big adventure 🥰

    @@SandCoffeeRocks G'day Maddie 😊👋 Oh yeah Maddie! What a great find this is! Big, beautiful and massive🤩! One of my friends said that for a wentletrap, every millimeter of length matters and shells with a difference of just a couple of millimeters look different due to the large final whorl of the shell. And yours looks great😌!

    G'day Mimi 👋🏻🐚❤️ Hehe, I must admit, I am pretty pleased with finding that Wentletrap!! Never seen such a big one before 😳 but there were so many other amazing shells today too. Wow, I think the favourite moon snail might be the grey green ones after all! There were also some big ones this time 🐌 Oh gosh, I nearly forgot about that long tailed spindle; it's the first whole one I've found from this beach! Also happy to have another frilly Scary Murex too. Ahhh, the land snail, I have regrets...it stowed away in my Heart Urchins bag when I got back to the car, so it missed out on being in the final shell display! I guess that shell was just too shy or too sneaky?? Anyhoo, I think I've rambled on enough, thanks for watching 🥰

Well holy guacamole, didn't the afternoon just make that morning complete in the end! Hahaha the Wentletrap really does look like a forbidden Soft Serve! Oh, I'm glad you liked the turkey wings and Haynes Turbans too; there was some lovely colours and spotty patterns on them!! I almost went back to next day to find another 🤣 well, not really, but I immediately told my shelling friends about my find 🐚 because I was so excited!! I love all of your other picks for the favourites too; it was just such a fantastic day. I didn't end up going to the second beach because I spent the extra time checking the shore here, and I'm sure glad I did! It was a very big day in the end, but absolutely worth the big drive! 4:20 Hey Maddie how was your doing tonight? My favorite seashell was the Jewelled Dog Whelk known as (Nassarius conoidalis). I could say that this lovely shell 🐚 looks so perfect for your next collection today 😊. This (Nassarius connoidalis) as in the “Jewelled Dog Whelk” was in 1832. Sometimes I search 🔦 some seashells names on Google so I can know what kind of seashell it was. So that was my answer. Anyway that’s my favorite seashell that I like tell you about so, what is your favorite seashell this time from today’s video? Well then thank you so much for taking me on your another shell adventure, this journey of finding seashells today was so awesome 🤩 yes 👏. I found a yellow, black, and a white one this time; it's very cool to see the colour variations of these shells 🐚 Wow, you're really done your research; indeed, it was first discovered and published a man in 1832, how exciting for the discoverer!! Hi lucky Maddie🎉 the wentletrap is hands down my favorite today. It's usually not that clear cut of a favorite shell for me to choose from your finds of the day! I have so many other loves in today's finds that I really can't pick a runner up. I do love those Venus clams, such beautiful texture. I prefer the gray green moons over the yellow but variety is the spice of life lol. Your shell arranging skills are really on point! Such a beautiful display! I enjoy the information on the species and life cycle of the shells too. It's funny, I'm contemplating trying to locate some of the same species of shell that you find, I guess eBay or something?

  • @SandCoffeeRocks

    @SandCoffeeRocks

    G'day Denise! The Wentletrap is definitely right up there as one of my best shell finds every, it just stands out from the crowd!! I know, it can be so hard to choose a favourite sometimes, but I always force myself to do so 😂 Oh YES!! Another lover of the grey moon snails! Actually, thinking about it, the super yellow ones might actually be rarer?? They are cream or brown coloured everywhere else that I go shelling; so I only see the super yellow ones here. Wow, looking to get some Australian shells? Hmm, eBay is a fine option (I look there as well) but the sellers are generally a little pricey from there...and by a "little" I sometimes mean a "lot," though it does depend on the seller and how lucky you are. Also, you can try looking on the Australian eBay (www.ebay.com.au) if you can; I sometimes see Australian shells for sale on the US eBay for a lot more, so I wouldn't look there first. I actually have some recommendations for shell sellers if you're interested... let me just copy/paste it from somewhere: I'm not sure where you are in the world, so the main consideration for these recommendations will be postage costs. Saying that though, maybe you live in Australia and have no problem with that! Just remember, anything you buy now won't arrive before Christmas... wow, we are only a few days out from the big day now! I would like to mention two sellers that I generally think of as cheap and/or good value that ship internationally (I believe)... but, saying that, I think the postage cost will be a big consideration to you because these two sellers are based in Australia, and it very quickly becomes expensive. First is Naturally Wild: natwild.com.au/collections/seashells-natural I have been meaning to do a buy and rate video for this store... I don't actually know the quality of the shells, but I've only heard good things. Plus, I met the owner at the Brisbane Shell Show (he had a store there) and the shells looked good - he is also the biggest supplier of goods to museum gifts stores within Australia. The prices are very cheap, but remember: the postage will be your biggest concern, and you can't actually choose what each shell will look like specifically: it won't be the exact individual pictured in the listing photo. Second (and last) is She Sells Shells: www.she-sells-shells.com.au/ She also has an eBay store that you can look for, but the prices on her website are a little better, but I think the stock is sometimes a little different between the website and the eBay, so I will link both: www.ebay.com.au/str/shesellsshellscaloundra The prices are more in line with what I typically think they should be while still being affordable for what they are, and the best part about this store is that you're getting the EXACT shell pictured in the photo, not just a generic shop photo like on Naturally Wild. Less guesswork, but you pay a little more for it. Again, the postage will be your biggest concern too, so do keep that in mind. Also keep in mind that shipping from Australia will probably take at least two or three weeks, maybe extra with the end of year holidays and madness. Plus, the sellers have other orders too, and will need time to pack yours if you decide to buy anything. Anyway, have fun and don't let your wallet curse my name too much

    @@SandCoffeeRocks thank you for the information :) I'll check those out. I'm in South Carolina, USA, so the postage would probably be quite high lol

    @@denisedill3552 The base price for a package oversees is about $25AUD, so about $18USD. After the package passed one pound in weight, it will very quickly increase. 3-4 pounds would probably be a little over $50USD. It also depends on what the sellers want to charge for the trouble too (as well as for the packaging they use); time is money and they need to fill customs forms as well. It's best just to ask these sellers directly if you have major concerns, but still want to place an order.

    I’m so sorry Pam, I did see one message to say that you got my Christmas card, but I was too busy to reply at the time… I guess that was a while ago! I’m honestly a bit shocking at replying to emails; they’re usually the last place I check for messages these days 😅 I will check and reply properly today 😆 Thanks for waiting!

    G'day Pam 👋🏻🏖 It was a SUPER spectacular and lucky day!! It's just crazy how big these Wentletraps can actually grown when they are given a chance (*looks over at my piddly little Precious Wentletraps from the Sunshine Coast that aren't even a tenth of this size)! I needed to take several minutes to calm down after finding it... and I also texted/messaged several of my local shelling friends so I could -rub it in their faces- share my excitement with them 🎉🎉🎉! It was a wonderful day full of lots of different shells. Oh, I usually only pick up those Turkey Wings because I know you like them! I really only like the ones with the super dark colours on them... actually, I shouldn't say that; I do enjoy seeing them and showing the variety of different shells here at this beach. I'm really glad that you enjoyed all of the amazing find from this BIG adventure! Thank you so much for always watching and supporting me here and on Facebook too 🥰🐚🥰

    Hey Kokonut 👋🏻🏖️ Thank you so much for subbing and coming along on these shelling adventures 🤩 Hahaha, it sure it rare to find a big one washed ashore like this!!! This one is actually a giant size (60mm) with the typical adults being around 45mm. As for being rare, well, Wentletrap aren't too rare of a shell here, just a bit more uncommon than the others like moon snails 🐌 I've actually found quite a lot of Wentletraps at Hervey Bay, but this is certainly the most impressive!!! I cannot tell you how absolutely thrilled I was to find this one 😄🐚 Thank you so, so much for watching 🥰

    G'day Pearl 👋🏻🏖️ Hmm, I don't think it's an albino, but it's possible. No, I think it's more probable that it's just the natural colour that's faded a little; this species is generally a very pale cream colour. The orange one from this video is outside of the norm; it's pale colour was changed due to the tanin that the mangrove trees produce around this beach. The grey ones I sometimes pick up are changed due to the black sand under the surface of the mud flats. I do like finding these nice pale and white ones because it's more true to it's original look. I know it's possible to find albino Dog Whelks, but I just can't say for sure that this is one of them 🤔 Anyhoo, it was a great question! Thanks for watching 🥰
