Finding old homes using Google Earth overlays
Фильм және анимация
This tutorial is a longer video with tips and tricks throughout the entire video. This is more than just a "How to overlay" video, but I get into the method I use to find old houses and structures.
I also show you some of the websites I use.
It starts out with the websites, then a general reference overlay, then a zoomed in township plat, then a zoomed in part of that township, and ends with an overlay of an 1937 aerial photograph.
I know its long, but I really wanted to give everyone a sense of how I go about doing things. There are a thousand tutorials on how to do an overlay, but getting county lines and plat lines to match up can be extremely sometimes. Hopefully this tutorial will make that a little easier.
I will try to reply to questions as I see them. Thanks everyone.

Thanks for the informative tutorial Trevor. I live in Dakota County as well so nice to see you working on maps from areas I know.
Thank you. I know I'll have to watch it a few more times after I've tried a few things.
Thanks for the video. I actually use to live off cliff road in Eagan back in 1991-1993.
you rock!!! thank you for this. I am researching where some original homes were in my area. I'm in NW. Minnesota. very informative :)
Thanks Trevor - very strange, I was actually looking on how to do overlays for the area you used for antler park. We were just down there. My wife's family was just south of the lake and west of antler park. (Fitzgeralds) Thanks for doing this.
Thanks a bunch for this video! I have been looking for something like this.
This is a fantastic resource! Thank you for posting this one.

This is awesome. Thanks for sharing! -Casey
I don't have the overlay button or any other tool on Google Earth. I also see that you do not reply to comments.

It seems the website has updated, it doesn’t look the same as yours.
