Finding Gremlins in the 4-150 White

The first time out with a new to me tractor finding all the hidden secrets. I mean, it's 40+ years old, little things will go wrong, especially electronicals.

We worked 800 acres a year with a White 4-150 including heavy deep chisel plowing, bloody good machine imo.

@@NoNo-zf6tz From memory I think chisel plow was about 13 or 15 tine and cutivator/ scarifier was about 22 feet ,long time ago .We only ran at about 2200rpm because at 2800rpm all day there is just to much stress I believe even though they seem to handle it.

I totally agree with your logic for hydraulic levers. Forward to lower, back to raise. 👌

Hey, old school way to make a gasket is tap it on the part with a small ballpeen hammer. It will cut the gasket but do no damage.

So the thing to first do is pull the thermostat and make sure the engine cooling system is adequate to even cool the engine. Shoot ya'll may need a fan shroud and a fan with more blades. Usually someone has removed the fan shroud making the fan sit out in open air.

You can breath easy that it's not over heating. Never the less you want to get that gauge working so you can depend on to give you the correct temperature of the engine

You can also use a spent shell casing of the proper size to punch the bolt holes in a new gasket.

You should hold that temp gun tight to the block to get a better reading. Also they dont read well on reflective surfaces

For the thousands of dollars it would cost to repair that engine I would not mess around with an electric temp gauge, replace it with a mechanical gauge even if you have to order one with an extra long capillary tube, by the way i like the big tires.....you should never have to mess around putting duals on it.

Early ones were troublesome with cast cam, crank, no oil cooling jets for the pistons etc but Cat kept improving them and the later ones were very good in the right application.

Speaking of the 2 plus 2 you ever going to use it or run it or even fix it? I don't understand why folks don't get themselves a true four wheel drive like a green Steiger or a Versatile or even a big 9300 Deere and stop messing with those four wheel drive wanna be tractors...
