So basically: get rid of the similar factored equations from numerator and denominator. The actual number (ie x+1, *-1*) would be the x value and plugging in the x value to the new equation would be the y value

its because we have to subtract it and get 0 2-2=0 therefore x=-2 and he is correct, for help I recommend watching some simple factoring videos and this you'll understand far better.
