Unfortunately too many people selling expensive houses in London and moving to Cornwall have seriously damaged Cornish house prices. Very few locals in typical jobs have been priced out of their local housing market. It’s a serious problem.

In the opening shots here, I spotted Doc Martin’s surgery/house in Port Isaac, and I feel as though I am a “local” here after watching so many episodes. What a charming place to live!

I'll take # 2, FABULOUS !! Rip out wood staircase railing, put in architectural steel or thin bars and make it art, and integrate stairway, as part of it.

I've always remembered that Porthcothan house in this episode, since I first saw it. 300 metre walk to the shop on the beachfront. The upstairs window now has a French balcony.

You can judge by how young Kirstie and Phil look but also the house prices!

In the first house they could be neighbors with Dr Martin.

Port Issac is way more expensive than this these days with Doc Martin filmed there.

Lived in Cornwall for 7 years - never again. There’s no escape from 16-45 pregnant or retired people who’ll work for nothing taking work away from everyone, putting the prices up as they’ve come from London and then the spouse dies and they can’t cope as there’s no transport/health services - left as soon as possible.. Bristol was the place to be and still is.

Hello. This is a real long shot but I’m hoping someone can remember this: I am searching for a Location, Location, Location episode featuring a couple looking to move to a place in the South. From memory it was a smallish village somewhere above Brighton (ish). I distinctly remember they were looking to move there as the schools were fantastic and Phil wholeheartedly agreed. Does anyone remember this episode and the name of the place they were looking to move to? Many thanks in advance of your help!

OK, so in all the Brit house hunt shows I watch, I see *all* these spiral stairs, or someone suggesting them and I just do. not. get it. And so often they're going up to bedrooms. Like, how in THE HELL do you move a bedroom suite in these houses??!!! Are hinged pneumatic roofs a thing in the UK?! Beyond the obvious OK-we-need- to=save-space-in-our- 12th century-piggery conversion, they are just *so*impractical!

What’s a bedroom suite? If you mean, how do you get a bed up stairs, many British beds come in pieces and you assemble them upstairs. The same goes for many wardrobes. In many old cottages, staircases as well as passageways, ceiling heights etc are not conducive to moving huge, ready assembled pieces of furniture into, so there is a wide choice of ‘assemble in place’ pieces available. I’ve lived in a number of old houses with torturous staircases and odd angles to contend with and I’ve never had a problem.

@@geemo4284 What if you need to change the bathtub? We had to hike ours up from the outside (luckily we have a balcony with French doors) despite a normal staircase.
