yes the gouldians dont care too much what colour their partner is. and the colours that come out in the young vary. the finches make their own holes and nests, but a little help to start them off doesnt hurt, just put the grass in and make a hole with your fist. thanks for the comment.

No zebs they just take over and stop the others from breeding. I had a lot of gouldians, and a pair each of ruddies, orange breasts, cordon blues, red face parrot finches, plums painteds star finches st helenas I think that's it. As for winter this was at the Gold Coast qld so very warm

hey mate awesome aviary, I'm trying build an aviary and been looking everywhere for ideas in terms of natural habitat setup etc. perfect example. do you get the various coloured gouldian finches breeding? offspring colour? and the idea of that hay stack like thing hanging for the birds to build a nest in is crazy. Do they just make their own holes and way into the hay stack? keep up the good work mate, cheers

Just wondering why you have your perches so high up and close to your clear sheeting. Doesn't it get hot in Summer? I know you're in NSW (I'm in Perth) but surely you have some hot summer days? Also wondering why you don't have more perches at the entrance end of your enclosure, or did I not just see them? Love the grasses and bracken in the wire for nesting :)
