Ned is a lawful, orderly brother. He has very little imagination, but he makes up for it with loyalty and honor and integrity. He’s a pure soldier, dogmatic in how he follows the law (even when he doesn’t like it…or even when it’s a bad law) and doles out punishment. He’s always earnest and giving his honest, best effort, and he expects others to as well. As you can see, that makes him uniquely well-suited for leadership (especially with an ain’t-sht king) but also completely unprepared for just how duplicitous and snakelike *everyone* in King’s Landing is.

The end of this one is Ned watching and realizing that his daughter probably will be in a war soon or that she can die. You see his smile turn in to a concern face

In the book before Ned had the heart to heart talk with Arya, one of Ned's men asked through the door if Arya was in her chamber. She shouted No!. The man walked away and Arya, who is nine years old at this time in the books, and thought like a nine year old, said to herself, that man was always stupid.

lady would have died either way. sansa saying she didn't remember WAS her taking her sister's side. she wasn't supposed to speak against the prince. cersei ordering lady's death was a punishment for sansa

She chose her family by trying to stay out of it and de-escalate, if she'd publicly criticised the prince she knew that her family would be punished, at best via her dad losing his high position and her the engagement, then the whole Stark family being condemned which could mean anything from being slowly ostracised and therefore losing power to having their titles and lands stripped, at worst they could be called treasonous and exhiled or killed. There is no basis for calling her untrustworthy for being aware that royals are above the law. If she'd supported Joeffrey's story then I'd agree, but instead she chose the most diplomatic option that wouldn't make her go against either side.

@@Frogface91 Robert, although somewhat mercurial, was not going to execute Ned's whole family if Sansa said that yes, Joffrey did attack Micah and Arya defended him and told the truth. He probably wouldn't even break the engagement (although I'm far from convinced that would be the worst outcome). Sansa is a kid and she was afraid. We don't have to say her panic led to the best possible outcome to think it's understandable. She's a kid.

@@HuntingViolets I agree that that wouldn't be Robert's style, my list of possibilities was probably affected by trying to be thorough for what could happen in front of a range of monarchs while I was set on demonstrating the unrealistic expectations some viewers have. As you say, her age is definitely relevant, which is why she's lashing out at her dad and Septa in the aftermath of Lady's death.

They talk so much and miss out on lots of things. However, they’re entertaining for sure.

"Every one of these dudes look like backstabbers." There are very few people on this show who are not; I think I can count them on one hand. The fun is finding out who they are.

At the end when Ned is watching Arya practicing with Syrio, pay attention to the sound as it pulls in on his face. He's having a 'Nam flashback.

Catelyn was supposed to marry Ned's older brother; after his death, it was decided she would marry Ned. It was an arranged marriage, and he went off to war soon after. They grew to love one another later on.

The end of this episode is actually very ominous, Ned goes from being amused at Arya's training to hearing real battles and his smile fading. So that was a powerful end! 🙂

To answer your question about the king. Yes he did go to winterfell simply to pick up his best friend Ned. They fought together to take the throne from the Targaryans. They were very close and the king trust no one more than Ned. So when his hand was killed he wanted someone he trust to cover his back.

I don’t think you guys noticed that Ned was having basically a ptsd episode in that last shot, the wooden sword sounds turn into metal sounds as he is watching Arya. Possibly envisioning her future while remembering his past

Ned is known to be a VERY honorable man, even amongst the Starks ( who are already known as honorable and loyal), so for Kat to see someone like Jon Snow every single day as a reminder of her husband being uncharacteristically "disloyal" is a large slap to the face and why she harbors so much resentment. It's neither right nor wrong, but it explains her feelings towards Jon

Sorry to be an "in the books" type dude again but in the books 🤓☝🏾it's very embarrassing in Dothraki culture to be forcibly unhorsed in some way. So in the book when Viserys is made to walk it makes him like a laughing stock in the khalassar which was fun for me bc I was sick of him lol

Jamie is one of the best characters in the series. Don´t underestimated all the morally grey characters.
