They are strongest as a group but you have to react to their individual work, especially hwasa cuz the way she presents herself in general and with vocals is just unbeatable

Mamamoo vocals are unbeaten in my opinion. They were told by their agency they weren't korean standard pretty so to focus on their vocal performance to make it big. Honestly it seems mean but it's not how they meant it and it really did make the girls such good vocalists. The first song they were actually not only saying Mamamoo in th chorus although it sounds like it. They are saying Mr Ememoho (sorry if spelling wrong) which means Mr ambiguous which is the name of the song. That was their debut and it definitely had a 20s vibe so did a bunch of their early songs like piano man. Glad you checked this out I hope you want to learn more about them and check out their purple Hawke guide. It's like a movie it's so well done. Starry Night is definitely one of my favs from them. They all have very amazing solo work too but Haasa especially. The Maria album is just perfection. Moonbyul is the rapper and she is one of the most credited female rappers in kpop for writing her own bars. Wheein is actually my bias and she's a damn genius! Solar has her own channel solarsido (so does moonbyul now) and it's so good. She does all these crazy challenges!!! You should see them perform "Waggy" "No more drama" and the 1cm mv! They have so much content! Also I just have to say their outfits really show their different personalities so well!

Vocal queens. They sound better live and are so good as adlibing and dealing with mishaps. HIP is what got people who did not know about Mamamoo to know them. Personally, Um Oh Ah Yea was the first song I heard of theirs, but as I was not huge into KPop then (still not huge, but I only Stan 3 groups while listing to certain songs by others) they fell of my radar. It was HIP that put them back on and 5 or so ones later I was a MooMoo.. when I go down the hole I go and I don’t come back. When I am hooked I am hooked. (Took me 4 if that to become a Monbebe/Monsta X, 5 to become an Insomnia) Moon ByulYi, stage name Moonbyul.. Moon Star is the literal translation of her name thus they sometimes call her that. Our hamper, greasy/ flirty/ cheesy girl crush. She now as her own KZread channel- Moonbyul2da (MooMoo’s totally know the origin of that name) Solar is a stage name that is a play on a few things. So and La of the vocal scale to reference her power and ability to sing stupid high. And the Sun part of her real name- Yongsun. She is our rabbit and Yeba “Pretty fool” leader. She has her own KZread Channel- Solarshido. Wheein or Wheepup as I call her cause she is our puppy. Cute and dorky. Has a KZread too “Whee In” I believe Hwasa or Hyejin is our Lion thus I call her Hwalion. Our fierce makane. Her and Whee In have been friends since middle school. Solar and Moonbyul- unnie line. They bicker. Byul loves to mess with Solar. Our of all the members, Byul is tinvolved in a lot of Solar’s channel videos be it behind the camera or on camera. They are also called YongKong ByulKong/YKBK. Wheein and Hwasa- 2 young girls/makane line Wheein and Moonbyul- dance line Moonbyul and Hwasa- rapline Solar and Wheein- Angel line/vocal line. They also have rapper MC names, so they are also capable of rapping. Solar actually helped Byul learn to rap when Byul had to change from vocalist to rapper. Byul, Wheein, Hwasa- looser crew Eclipse MV , Lunatic MV , For Me clip , Ddu Ddu Ddu clip , Absence MV, Illjido video, Moon Movie does not have an MV or anything, but there is a performance and it really shows her rapping; they are also excellent.. though since Byul is my bias I love all her stuff. Her solo stuff show cases her vocal ability and her rapping and I love her singing voice so much. Byul writes by herself or helps to write all her raps, and her vocals in her solo stuff. “ Adrenaline” by Solar is very Bond opening and is a powerful song. “Spit it Out” is also really good. Their solo stages from 4 seasons concerts f/w (fall/winter) and s/s (summer/spring) are epic. Egotistic is my favorite song. I have a special place for Paint Me. Decalcomanie, Um Oh Ah Yea, Gogobebe, HIP.. they do so many things.. Mr ambiguous, piano man, decalcomanie are like 50’s or 60’s… retro inspired. Starry Night and Egotistic are more Latin inspiration Though they all have a very R&B feel in terms of genre for most of their songs.

Love the reaction, of course. Mamamoo is one of my favorite girl groups. They are classy and talented and amazing. 1 song you have to check out? Sleep in the Car -- you'll love it. And 1cm (Taller than You) is super fun. Heck, even their advertisement songs (Gleam, Wanna be Myself) are worth checking out!

I already wrote a bunch, but I want to add if you want to check their individual sides, you should check out their solo stuff. Each of them really show of their styles there. Moonbyul - "Eclipse" and "Lunatic" are both amazing in very different ways. Solar - "Spit It Out" can't be missed. She also did an incredible song called "Honey Bee" with Luna of f(x) and Hani of EXID. Wheein - "Make Me Happy" is such a beautiful song. Hwasa - "I'm a B" would be the one I suggest, but I absolutely love all her songs as she is my favorite of Mamamoo. "Don't" that she did with Loco is another noteworthy one. I love how each song they sang became one of your favorites that they did.

I think their "Immortal song" live performance will complete this meddley. They also have good solo songs. I think you can also watch the MAMAMOO guide "Introducing MAMAMOO" part 1 and 2 (By Purple Hawk) which is probably one of the best guide in Kpop, if you want to know more about the members. BeLis Mamamoo! Mamamoo is one of the greatest vocal lines in Kpop, MooMoos (fandom) say that they eat CDs for breakfast. They are singers and performers first and Idols after that. MAMAMOO is that woman group all other groups and artists love and respect. They are vocal queens but also artists! They get to decide on the direction of their music and how they present themselves like fashion and showing their genuine personalities. I love MAMAMOO so much!

a lot of mamamoo's early work has the 'retro' sound you were mentioning, styles from the '20s up through the '70s in various songs. part of that was due to one of their labelmates, a solo artist named esna, who co-wrote or co-composed a lot of their earlier songs, including predebut stuff. the song "ahh oop" is her song featuring mamamoo, though stuff happened that will get discussed if and when you get to that song (it's got a '50sish feel to it) the first song they performed was their debut song, "mr ambiguous". that song actually has a bit of a backstory to it... originally it was an english song called 'mamamoo' (after some of the adlibs used) one of their ceos, kim dohoon, wrote for quincy jones (yes, that quincy jones) when he was visiting south korea. he also had his as-yet-undebuted 5 member girl group perform the song for mr jones, who wound up passing on the song. so, the song got reworked into a korean song, with the korean word for 'ambiguous' sounding pretty similar to 'mamamoo' (and the korean word for 'mustache', which is why they do the mustache thing in their greetings) and one of the staff suggested 'mamamoo' as the group's name. sometime between this and the group debuting, the 5th member (who would have been the eldest and leader) dropped out of being a trainee because she wanted to walk a different path. she's still good friends with the girls, especially solar and hwasa (the latter shares a tattoo with her and had her as a guest on her show 'i live alone') oh, because you mentioned the concert before their first 'queendom' performance... i'd just like to elaborate a bit on mamamoo's concerts... they tend to reach 4 hours long, with one breaking the 5 hour mark... they do group stages, solo stages, comedy skits and so much more, and for 3 days in a row, before heading home to take a break then do it again in another location... so it's understandable that they were worried that their performance on queendom would be affected that said, they really do have incredible stage presence and know how to control the crowd (you'll see that later in 'queendom' too). they also feed off the energy the audience gives them, so always wind up doing better than even they expect 'moonstar' is one of moonbyul's most used nicknames, and is something many non-korean fans call her. 'byul' means 'star' in korean, so it's still her name, and star is much easier for many to pronounce than byul "dingga" is one of their b-side songs, off the same album "aya" (the song sung after it). it was the pre-release for that album and is literally about self-isolation due to covid (hence the line about 'my friend is this fruit fly' (hovering over my food)) and wanting to be able to meet up with friends again, drink a lot and have a normal life oh, absolutely should check out jessi's killing voice, as well as ailee's (she's a solo artist under the same new agency wheein of mamamoo is (wheein's under rbw as a member of mamamoo, but a different agency as a soloist, while the other three mamamoo girls are fully under rbw. for now). also, jess is pretty close with hwasa and has interviewed both hwasa and solar as solo artists on her show 'showterview'

MAMA MAMA MAMAMOO, can't get enough Mamamoo!!! When Mamamoo takes the stage, put the kiddies to bed. In my opinion there are two girl groups that are head and shoulders above all others, Blackpink and Mamamoo. They debuted in 2014 and their discography consists of 300+ titles. Some of their earlier music (Mr. Ambiguous and Piano Man) have a flavor of Kpop meets 60/70's Motown. They have the reputation of best voices in Kpop, and biggest crackheads/goofballs in the industry. I believe both to be true. All their m/v's are dope. Their live stage and concert performances are a blend on masterful harmonies, showmanship, and hilarious humor. Their award show performances (in front of their peers) are legendary and almost irreverent to the establishment. As a group and individually they have numerous OST's (original sound tracks). Their solo works clearly establishes that they are true to themselves as artists and individuals. Much like BTS, their agency (RBW) was small and limited in assets so they also had to work the streets, shopping malls, local events to market themselves. Mamamoo are THE best! Individually or together, they bring the stage presence, talent, & vocals. I hope you watch / react to their MVs. "Starry Night" is one of my favorite songs (good for any day or time... or just on loop), but they don't really have a bad song or MV. "Gogobebe" is pretty bomb though too, & "HIP" & "Egotistic" & a lot of their other earlier stuff too. They're just a genre roulette with their music. I think you'd really like Moon Byul's "Lunatic" which she just released recently ("Shutdown" with Seori is also pure bliss & sort of erotic/sensual & kinda pushing Kpop boundaries... & her previous comeback "Eclipse" is truly unique & just very her) or Hwa Sa's "I'm a B" (her most recent comback) or "Maria" (her previous comeback) especially. "Maria" is just... surprising. She also just has amazing boss & no fucks energy, but yet is very vulnerable in her music, especially B-side releases. They're just living legends really. Moon Byul is one of the best, most natural rappers though. She really plays with what idol & Korean gender standards are (& like silly they are). She's got a really fire song with Seulgi of Red Velvet called "Selfish" that's so so so good. Also, definitely do Jessi!

Mamamoo is an unique girl group. All their discography is special... The only song they regret is Sky! Sky! So all other songs are fair play.

Best "song" to react to next is their Immortal Songs Medley. It's from the middle of a four hour concert, with a live band and dancers, and they just knocked it out of the park and achieved legendary status with that performance. It's six songs from their many appearances on the Korean TV show, "Immortal Songs 2", in which many different singers pay homage to great artists of the past by singing their songs live on the air. Idol groups are almost never invited, as it's a showcase for soloists, but Mamamoo has been on 14 times, and won thrice, the only girl group to win at all.

VOCAL QUEENS!!! They’re my top ultimate bias female group. I love their personalities, vocals, songs, and performances. Especially, their live performances are insane. They’ve every genre of songs /+210songs/. For me, their songs are just masterpieces. I can proudly say whatever song chooses it will be awesome. They’re so talented. I really love to listen to every song of them. Their songs are meaningful. I hope you make more reactions to them.

All of their music is just incredible. What makes them unique is that all of them stand out. Each member has their color and they mesh so well. They’ve done a four seasons where each did represent a color. Along with that color has a story behind it. I’d recommend that and their B-Sides. Example is the song Travel from the album itself it’s such a good album. Then again all of their songs are. I highly recommend Windflower because to me that song is just top tier. It’s within the Blues album. There’s so much to enjoy. It fills me with such happiness when others are amazed by Mamamoo. They’ve come so far and have worked so hard to achieve their dreams. Thank you for also mentioning the lyrics, it’s probably one of my favourite aspects of their songs (excluding their amazing vocals ofc) I’m sure you’ve gotten tons of group recs, but all of the girls are also awesome soloists, so here are some solo tracks I recommend!! MoonByul: Lunatic (her title track for her newest album), In my room (if you want angsty vibe,, she makes lots of them lmao), G999 (a 90s throwback track) and Shutdown (a super chill vibe with some wlw representation well needed in the kpop industry) Solar: Spit it out Wheein: Make me happy (her title track for her recent album), watercolour Hwasa: Maria, I’m a B, Twit (she is by far the most successful as a soloist. Fully recommend checking out the lyrics for Maria especially. Keeping in mind that, if you don’t know already - Hwasa has suffered a lot of hate over the years for so many insanely stupid things - the song is her singing to herself aka ‘Maria’ ((her baptismal name)). I think you’ll like it!!)

There was a reason no one wanted to compete against them on Queendom. 😂 Honestly, there's no quintessential Mamamoo song but rather their songs are best understood and appreciated by era. You seemed to enjoy Starry Night and gogobebe a lot and so either one of those is fine. Hold off on I Miss You because they perform it later into Queendom.

But if you wanna dive into discography you can do it chronologically or I'd recommend (based on the songs you liked the most) to start with the 4 seasons 4 colors project, in which each member is represented by a color and a season and each album has a specific mood to go with each of them and their season. Or if you wanna get to know them better and have a good glimpse of the extent of their silliness, their personality, and music style I'd recommend the Introducing mamamoo guide by purple hawke, the editing is amazing and it's one of the most complete guides out there.
