Thanks for setting some of the Yoruba traditions/problems straight. Oba sijuade was an outstanding Oba. During his tenor, he displayed the quality of being the father of all of the Obas. According to history, he was very generous to people. What surprised most of us is that those who he was generous to are the same people that are now antagonizing his kingdom. One of such people is Oba Akinruntan (The Alaseju of Asete Kingdom). Thank you very much Akanda Oro. May you live long. Ami.

There is too much problem in our traditional institutions and it is making us to loss focus on our political problems within Nigeria. Ooni is the head of Yoruba and we should also give ultimate respect to the Alaafin office because if not for Oyo warriors, who knows by know maybe Ooni himself will be answering to Sultan of Sokoto because Fulanis might have over run Osun state. So both office should be respected pls.

No I disagree, in fact Oyo was the one that brought the calamities to most ancient Yoruba towns but Ibadan warriors should be praised for rising to the occasion. Oyo only expanded the Yoruba frontiers and territories but failed to manage the egos of her princes and chiefs, this they paid dearly for.

@@akeemadedayo9626 The simple case of Oyo is just the norms that empire will rise and fall. Yeah you are right to some extent that Oyo bullied some Yorubas sister state even down to Benin republic. A simple case was also that of Afonja who sort for external force to detard the Oyo bully which in turns made him loss Ilorin. Oyo acted as a careless big brother who only cares about Isakole (tax). But one thing we need to still appreciate them is that they help yo expand Yoruba territories and to some certain extent defended the Yoruba people as well.

I read online where communities in Ogun state are being ravaged by Fulanis herdsmen that were chased out of Benin republic by their Military men and they are in Ogun state killing our people, and our traditional leaders are not concerned about it rather are fighting for supremacy. Also Oluwo of Iwo was said to beat another monarch in a meeting last week, is that what we have turned ourselves too, If i have my way, i will abolish all this Oba and monarchy of a think after all France did the same thing and heaven did not fall.

@@jaymanjay2835 Honestly, our kings are now political leaders and dont really command the kind of respect they deserve anymore because of these unnecessary supremacy battles. Instead of them to unity against common enemies, they would rather be struggling to outshine one another. Today , our kings now report to police station like every other person, some of them have thrown away decorum like the Oluwo. But we must relax and must never shy away from speaking to them to do the right thing, which is protecting the interest of their people as we are Yorubas first before Nigeria.

Good afternoon my Brother Akanda Oro Awikonko- Ewi Exponent, it seems that Our Ancestors and Olorun Olodumare sent you here for a purpose. You have been speaking the truth to some burning issues and this particular issue of Supremacy between father and one of His grandchildren: Oonirisa and Alaafin of Oyo. Though it is an abomination for this kind of comparison, at any rate, thank you so much for digging deeper into the history and finding out the truth. In my personal opinion, I think you're the Mayegun Atayase Oduduwa. I would like to leave you with this quote from my great grandfather, His Majesty the King, King Adelekan Olubuse, Ooni of Ife [1894-1910] "A man (person) should speak only what he knows to be true.” His Majesty the King said this to the Nigeria Colonial governor in February of 1903 before Kabiyesi pronounced His Ruling on the issue of Akarigbo of Remo versus Elepe of Epe and other issues brought before the Sovereign Oonirisa, the Deity King.

The Alaafin of Oyo, was the paramount ruler of Yorubaland while Ooni of Ife, was just an ordinary babalawo or a shrine keeper who stays in shrine before chief Obafemi Awolowo, gained political power...Because the Alaafin of Oyo, did not support chief Obafemi Awolowo's political dreams, he fraudulently made a shrine keeper or a babalawo (Ooni of Ife) the paramount ruler of Yorubaland. Secondly, Ooni of Ife, is not related to Oduduwa, he was a son of a captured slave woman who was about to be used for sacrifice when they found out she was pregnant, her life was speared because of her pregnancy. Oduduwa, now adopted the son and made him a shrine keeper and then named him "Ooni of Ife". The Yoruba people needs to obey their ancestors and restore the Alaafin of Oyo, as the paramount ruler again!

Great job but not detailed enough I've listened to all episodes but I believe there are questions that should be asked and answered if records is to be set straight: such as 1) Who gave birth to oduduwa? 2) Where did live before migrating to ile-ife. 3) How many towns and cities exist along side ile-ife before the arrival of Oduduwa in ile-ife? The reason for these questions are based on your hypothetical justification of Okanbi's existence and popularity, which I believe should apply to Oduduwa and other cities that exist before the arrival of Oduduwa in ile-ife. Please use your great office to research more on this and clear the history of Yoruba land because our history is so confusing. Thanks

Folayan I agreed with you that Ade ori doesn't go out anyhow. However, I disagree with you that Ooni of Ife should forget about peace movement and stay in his palace. Remember that Jesus Christ says " Blessed are the peacemaker for they shall be called the Son's of God"--Matthew 5:9. If Ooni is the father of all in Yorubaland his peace mission is in order because it is in accordance with the word of God. Oluwaseun Folayan don't you think so?

@Isaac! You're right with what you said but everything has to be limit because those days of Jesus Christ of Nazareth is different from nowadays. Aye Audio la wa yi and if everyone is seen First class King all the time in an unwanted place the respect will not be there. There are a lot of ways of making Peace without even travelling to every where. Try to reason with my words. God Bless!

This here is a true simple summary of the whole story. It puts to an end all fallacies raised for the stupid purpose of ethnic superiority when infact many of us today are a result of many intermingling marriages through a millenia. Oduduwa a foreigner united the yoruba tribes and created a kingdom. He had one son who had several children. One of the grandsons obalufon became ooni of ife after him, his last grandson oranmiyan became oba of benin and left his son eweka there, oranmiyan also became first alaafin of oyo and left his son ajaka there. He then proceeded to be ooni of ife and when he died obalufon son ascended the throne and his descendants are still ruling there so the oba of benin and alaafin of oyo are in a sense junior brothers/kinsmen to ooni of ife. The fight fir supremacy should stop and these lies that oduduwa is a benin person should end. Oduduwa has no connection to the said ekalederahan. Every culture and tribe should celebrate their unique culture and stop fighting stupid wars

That Ooni of Ife king is greater than the Alafin of Oyo king is a fact undisputedly known to intelligent people who grew up in SW between 1965 and 1980s. Only SOME indigenes of Oyo state argues against this fact. Thank you Akanda Oro Awikonko, the Balogun Oro 1 of Yoruba Land for stating this without mincing words.

at that time of 1965 to 80s, ooni , alaafin don't take a decision of his own, alaafin, will always write the ooni first,to ask for his opinion, before carrying out of any decision to crown any king from his territory , i still have some copy of the letter wrritten by alaafin then,,

@@olakanmilaseinde1891 There is nothing like "Ooni b'olohun bade". Owa returned with the water why was he not made Ooni? The throne was actually returned to the aborigines. Oduduwa did not start Obaship in Ife. Limiting the history of the Yoruba race to Oduduwa is what is even making some idiots to be mocking our history. Oduduwa became king in Ife at the detriment of some other aboriginal kings and at the twilight of his era his children were stylishly eased out and the power returned to the aborigines. Go to Ife and some would clearly tell you they are not descendants of Oduduwa. Don't let us start to be opening cans of worm so that we don't create disunity amongst ourselves. Oranmiyan was not the only descendant of Oduduwa and certainly he had older ones but because he was fierce and troublesome that gave him popularity over others. He reigned in Idu/Bini before Oyo and later retired in Ife. So what point are you having to discredit the oldest throne in Yoruba history.
