    RIGHT! Like I said in my comment, both of them won. Because it was a. 2-man field from start to finish! Their combined score was almost TWICE AS MUCH AS THE NEXT 4 OPPONENTS COMBINED! 2 guys almost shot better than 4 guys combined! Absolutely insane! If those 2 can bring this into worlds, we'll have another big battle again!

    Both Mc's made new record for 4 round total result at the Beast. At same time, 3rd was KJ with 25 under. This would have been position 5th to 10th in some previous EO's. There have usually been at least 3-4 players with 30 under or better.

    As much as I can understand charging for some content in DG I really wish this tournament wasn't behind a paywall -- this is the most insane gallery I think on any coverage and this duel between Mcbeth and Eagle deserves to be seen by as many people as humanly possible with full post-round coverage. I get charging for live feeds but also preventing other companies from doing next day coverage is kinda shitty.

    the PDGA are ruining it with this kind of coverage. They might make a few thousand dollars and will never be able to cover their costs. Forcing the post production availability to 30 days seems arbitrary and super dumb. Especially in light of just how awful most of the coverage is. I know Nate Doss is a former champ, but that dude is just awful at commentary. Most disc golf commentary is terrible and feels like its just two dudes that happen to play disc golf in front of a microphone. Its high time for disc golf to be more legit and the PDGA isn't doing it.

    At the end of the video where Eagle is throwing discs to the audience you can see that on the very last throw on the video he actually aims at something. I might be wrong but I thought I heard that the coverage was going to be divided up between the various crews like Jomez, CCDG, Gatekeeper, etc. I might also be wrong in thinking that the DGN is what we used to call SpinTV... because all the mistakes seem like the ones SpinTV used to make on a regular basis. No understanding of their market and little to no understanding of how to make money in this lucrative streaming world we live in. I'm all for paying for live content (I do) but once it's over, just publish it to the public... I won't start crying about it, I've paid to see it live. Maybe do some polls and ask your audience what the want instead of making these decisions in the echo chamber of your little closed group.

    The European Open owns the media rights to their event. They had a specific plan in mind on how to manage those media rights. When we (DGN) bought the rights, a certain plan for coverage was agreed to, which is what was executed at this event. Post production with commentary was recorded and released next day to those who bought PPV. It’s exclusive for them for 30 days, and then it will hit our YT channel. Look out for it in Late August!

    I remember when there was good coverage of this tournament and anyone that went on KZread could discover it and watch it. Then the DGPT took over and said they wanted to “grow the sport” and introduce more people to disc golf…. and made it way less accessible. When I started playing I stumbled across footage of this tournament and got so excited. Huge galleries. Competitors from all over the world. It really made disc golf seem like a big deal. It looked like a PGA event. Now there is absolutely no way someone could discover disc golf by finding coverage of this tournament on KZread like I did. The only way to see it now is to know about it ahead of time and pay the DGPT money and then pay them again a second time to actually watch the tournament. How is this growing the sport? How is this introducing new people to disc golf?

  • @seanclarke8255

    @seanclarke8255

    2 жыл бұрын

    As a casual viewer I’d rather watch highlights. Easier to digest. And the dreaded paywall is barely anything. If you’re that interested in the sport 12 bucks a month is affordable. Producing content and running tournaments isn’t free. Revenue from the subscriptions goes towards making the tourneys run better, higher payouts for players, etc etc. Please everyone I beg of you, stop complaining and use that energy instead to go throw your discs.

  • @craigcampbell1843

    @craigcampbell1843

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@seanclarke8255 you know they could post live coverage, edited coverage AND highlight videos right? Plenty of other KZread channels do. The paywall isn’t that much money. You’re right. But that’s not the point. And a lot of us don’t have the time to watch live coverage. The point is the DGPT says they want to introduce new people to disc golf. If the coverage is all hidden behind paywalls and only people that already play disc golf know about it, there is no way for someone that’s never heard of disc golf to just randomly discover it on KZread like I did years ago. The DGPT COULD do what the Masters Cup started doing when the pandemic started to limit crowd size. If they need more money do what the Masters Cup and the PGA have done for years. Charge spectators admission fees. Simple. This way people that are already into the sport will gladly pay to be there and people that have never heard of disc golf before can stumble across it on KZread for free. Like I did. And now I pay to go to the Masters Cup and think it’s worth it. They raise the money from spectators that come to see it in person and use that money for operating expenses and larger payouts for the players and actually grow the sport like they say they want to. The dumbest part is that they could still make money off tournament coverage even if they posted it for free like in years past. Most KZreadrs don’t make their money by hiding their videos from the public and charging people to see them. They make their money with ad revenue and views by getting as many people to see them and stumble across them as possible.

Unfortunately who ever made the first mistake towards the end was going to lose the tournament. Congrats to McMahon for the win and coming back from his injury, really impressive! Sad about the paywall, obviously there are some things to work through on this front if your TRUE intent is to grow the sport. About the results **SPOILER** What a fantastic tournament, I would never in a thousand years imagine Eagle coming out this strong and to see him hold on to his lead for the entirety of the tournament is amazing. I really hope he is keeping his injury at the forefront of his mind and that this endeavor wasn't a hit against his recovery. He might not be the most fun to watch in terms of personality on the course but you can tell he is focused and he only has winning on his mind, it's been fun watching his personal developmental as a player and watch his frustration grow towards humility and his insecurities grow to a relaxed rational viewpoint. Just wish the best for you in the future Eagle and if you're reading this, keep on dreaming ;)

    Idk about other spectators on here, but imo, to average a 1072 rating through 4 rounds, and still come in second place... to beat 99% of the field so badly, and still only come in second place would be suck a kick to the face. These pros are so good!
