Ted Hill is the best 6 without doubt. Hight and crazy pace, tackles like a machine and is a good leader.

Every day i agree more and more with the idea of just chucking Ben earl into 12 lmao. All of our centre options are 13s by trade. earls got god speed good hands good power. Plus the back row is where England has the most depth. I know its a serious stretch, but maybe against Japan just say fuck it and see how it goes lol.

Yeh, think you've nailed this tbf. Have some great option at back row but agree that Barbery hasn't stood out enough in the big games, especially when you compare him to Ted Hill who's really stood up.

I understand why Cole and Marler are picked but surely at sometime in the near future England are going to have to ween themselves off these two stalwarts.

True but what's the point of throwing players in the deepend to get battered, especially when that talent doesn't look particularly strong... I'd rather see newcomers come off the bench with the odd start until they get established... The best teams bring in new talent slowly, they very rarely make complete wholesale changes and will play the best team available as much as possible apart from the very easy matches but they're a rarity.

Would be a shocker if Heyes toured ahead of Davison tbh.

The center situation has not progressed as basically all 4 players chosen play at 13... so I would probably take a punt on Ojomoh and leave Dingwall behind (but I dont think that will happen).

I think he'll take Davison, surely he couldn't justify taking Stewart after the season they've both had.

There can't be anyone in the world who thinks Heyes is a better tighthead than Davison? I know Borthwick knows Heyes from Leicester but honestly that would be completely baffling.

I don't rate Heyes at all. A decent enough club player but he would be nowhere near the first team at International level for the likes of Ireland, NZ or South Africa!... Our pool of props, especially at tight-head is shockingly poor!.. Unless some amazing young props come from somewhere, I think that's the positions that is going to cost us trophies because we seem to be building decent depth in most other positions.

I have said this before but there are a few players in the proposed squad who have had plenty of chances at international level and have never put in a performance which demands the shirt: 1. Will Stuart. He is decent but IMO just falls short of being a really good international player. I think it is time to look again at Trevor Davison. 2. Nick Isiekwe definitely falls into the category of "tried but never put in a performance". Ewels is a safe choice has a lot of bulk to complement Itoje. I think second row is an area where Borthwick can experiment so I would keep Tuima so 4th spot is between Ewels and Coles 3. Dombrandt. He has had his chances and proved not to be good enough. Earl is world class at 8 even though he should be playing 6, CCS is a real prospect at 8 (or 6) and if Tom Curry is in the squad there is no need for another 8 but I would like to see Barbeary given a chance soon 4. Van Poortvliet. This is probably a bit harsh of me, JVP is young and still developing his game but when given his chance at international level his pass was a bit slow and he is not the quickest of the options. I would go for Randall because he brings something different to the position, lightning quick so makes defences second guess themselves Other than that it is a very good squad. Longer term England need players who can make a difference, rather than being clones of the main current choices. I expect Max Ojomoh to become that sort of player. Randall is already that sort of player and Ted Hill might also already be that sort of player

Agree with your point on how many chances can we give them, but will stuart I feel is now beginning to look the part since the World Cup. Bur agree Trevor Davison now worth a look at. Dombrandth also worth another go . Some players take more time than others. Ollie Chessum for instance whereas George Martin was a test animal before his first test match.

Would love to see Randall on the bench as a kinda, Care-esque wild card when the game starts to open up in the last 15-10 mins, Quirke was someone who exploded onto the scene a few years ago, but hasn't really lived up to his first season

I think you're pretty close... personally, I would take Street from Exeter as a THP over Heyes (he's had a number of chances but never really made a big impact). I hope Northmore gets good game time as can cover 12, 13 or wing and is fit and on top form (was surprised Beard wasn't in the training squad...)

Totally get there may be conservative choices but I think even with the conservative picks it’s certainly a team I can get behind. And in quite a few potions except maybe Centre and Tighthead it’s nice to see we are quite flush with options. And there are nice centres and one or two more potential Tightheads out there they just need more time. I think it’s pretty positive for England! If only all the managing bodies could get rugby stable in general.

Regarding fullback, Furbank has the shirt, but SB also sees Marcus Smith in that role. If Freddie tours, which I think he will, he may not get any game time as Marcus can cover fly-half and fullback from the bench. I wish Marcus would get a start at fly-half, but I get the feeling SB sees him as a better bench cover for Ford and Furbank, than a starter in either position.

I’d be disappointed but I have a feeling that Borthwick is gonna go with something very similar. Tbf though, that would still be a very strong squad capable of doing a job

Steward has not been playing well for Leicester but you know exactly what he is capable which is to catch every high ball kicked in his direction.( first name on the team sheet when SA are the oppositon ). With absolutely no disrespect to Japan , SB has to select a team which can take on / beat the ABs and I recall the last time we played them they tried many cross field kicks to catch us out and I wonder therefore if we need Steward as a reserve fullback because Carrpenter will offer more running threat if something happens to Furbank.

@@k1ngcab00se He's worked on it a lot this year (when not injured) - he's been a lot more active off his wing, carrying first phase of line outs. I do agree that his kicking game is potentially not up to standard for the international game - however I haven't watched enough of IFW to really know if his is better or not (although even as a quins fan I think IFW would go ahead of him, as much as it pains me to say it).

Ok, so I’m repeating my comment from the other video, but TOM CURRY IS FIT!!! Why ‘rest’ him? He’s lacking game time, so at least stick him in against Japan. No point sitting in a gym in Cheshire.

  • @9Charcot
    @9Charcot24 күн бұрын

Good video and good selection. Pretty sure you have 95% correct but I am sure SB will throw in a couple of surprises. Personally I am not a fan of Ewels....he has always been anonymous for England except for his 90 second display against Ireland in 2022. Langden has to go surely, Barbeary and Willis both are solid but lacking X factor and have not really shown up in these big games, I have a feeling Ben C will be squeezed in even if Tom is going, I would prefer Quirke to JVP or Randall but think you are right that JVP will go, not sure that Steward is nailed on (Amazing to be saying this), Is Will Joseph injured again?

Re Ewels, I would’ve totally agreed but he has been a different animal for Bath when I’ve seen them this year with offloading and seems to have gotten a half yard of pace added to his game. I’m not a Bath supporter either. Would be happy with Itoje, Martin, Coles and Tuima with CCS as another line out option in the back row
