FINAL FLIGHT! Last De Havilland Canada CC-115 Buffalo Takeoff From YYJ

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

January 7, 2022 marked the last time the CC-115 Buffalo would fly to Victoria International Airport. Just a few days later on January 15, the Buffalo flew its last operational flight.
The Buffalo first entered service with the RCAF in 1967, and went on to provide an incredible 55 years of service. This aircraft was well known for its extraordinary STOL capabilities, and until recent years, Buffaloes could be seen flying into small airstrips in BC, including Squamish, Qualicum Beach and Nelson. It was always a highlight to see one of these rare, colourful aircraft show up to YYJ, usually for a lunch break. It's sad to see my favourite Canadian aircraft get retired, but I was thankful to have seen it one last time.

Couldn't agree more! It's a shame they are basically gone from the skies now.

I worked on the prototype at Downsview,1963. My rivets held the unloading ramp together!

That's sad to see these classics disappear from the skies, the old Buffalo's were always my favourite visitors to CZNL. Great shot of this historic last flight, they had an impressive career with the RCAF and will be missed.

Thanks. Yeah, I was really bummed that I wasn't able to make it to Comox for the last flight. The Buffalo can do so many things the Kingfisher can't, like flying into Nelson. Really is a shame they are gone.

My first spotter training flight was in 452, from Victoria, 2.22.97. How fitting that the same plane made the last Buffalo takeoff from here.

Why it's final flight? DC-3's are still flying.

That's a good question. I personally think they could have been update, or a newer version could have been made.

Thank you, me too! It could be a while though. There are actually C-130Hs from Winnipeg that will be the "temporary" replacement for the Buffalo while some issues are ironed out with the Kingfishers.
