Final Fix For Our RV Slide! Schwintek to Vroom Slide.

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Today I wanted to share what we did to fix our slide and make sure that it lasts longer than the way it came from the factory. I wish I could have just covered the entire underside of the slide but these plates are a good DIY Rv slide fix. Vroom has now shipped their system to other systems across the country which I hope will help others that want it get it. Here is the link to the HDPE we used on the inner rollers.

    RV manufacturers have known for years that the Schwintek slide mechanism is not appropriate for larger slides. They opt for cheap, over and over again.

    What’s interesting is your seeing more n more manufacturers put big slides on the schwintek, it’s like educate those buyers, stay away from big slides or heavy loaded slides on the schwintek. 🍻

    My Schwintek broke on my Grand Design 2500 RL in about a year and a half. Grand Design and Lippert components would not help me at all. I had to pay about $2200 for a new Schwintek tech to be put on. Unfortunately I live outside of Chicago and was not driving to Arizona for the Vroom. I guess if people stop buying RVs that have large sides that have a Schwintek the manufacturers will have to change the way they do things.

    as a RV tech of 14 years that has replaced around 50 of these mechanisms thus far, i can vouch that the schwintek system is a very good system but the OEMs DO NOT use it properly specifically install, ive been to lippert and spent time with there people working with the system and its quality but the rv industry is too sloppy for the precision side of it, if the OEMs cant build a square slide box or cut the hole square(had many that are over an inch out of square in the corners) thats where the issues come from 90% of the time and the other 10 are usually lack of rollers which once again lippert instructs the OEMs on how often to put rollers

    Thanks Jared, excellent info. Hopefully, the manufacturers are paying attention to this video. There is no excuse for this type of mod being standard for slides, ESPECIALLY if they insist on using Schwintek systems in the primary slides of RVs. I really like the robust construction of the Vroom system.

    Thank you for your first video about Vroom slides. We called Vroom last year and scheduled our 6 month out appointment for this July. Couple weeks before going they set us up with RV Specialist in San Diego for a July appointment. RV Specialist saw a significant problem with our Jayco Melbourne 24L. Little support for rollers rolling on plywood and small rollers in wrong position. They added 6 metal plates to roll on, new heavy duty rollers, and repositioned them bottom and top. The slide finally works! They did an excellent job, but it did cost $6,100. It was worth it. Again, thanks to All About RV's for your great helpful videos.

    Hi Jared. Thanks for the Vroom and Schwintek videos. I have the 2022 version of the Reflection 28BH. Aside from issues with the Schwintek mechanism on the kitchen slide, the RV has been reliable. The slide box has the Norcold fridge and the dinette and is quite heavy. I had to remove my tool box and other storage from under the bench seats since it overloaded the slide, and it would frequently stall. This improved performance, but it still struggles and sounds like a dying hyena in pain. I'll be installing 1/8" stainless steel plates and another roller before this travel season. We're considering the Vroom upgrade if the improved support doesn't help, but that's several thousand dollars. Grand Design and Lippert need to wake-up and realize the negative effect that under-engineered components have on their customers.

  • @rickgrimm5130
    @rickgrimm51304 күн бұрын

    Just a note, the HDPE plate will flex as it moves over the roller, putting similar stress on the underside skin of the slide as if it wasn't there, continuing to weaken the skin where the steel plate will distribute the stress over a wide area causing no stress to the underside. I'd agree with using 1/8" aluminum plate as a superior alternative to HDPE.

    Nice upgrade. I would be very concerned using those stainless steel plates on 28BH with the 12v fridge. I get a lot of slide floor deflection since the weight of the fridge is along the front edge of the slide, not towards the back like your fridge. It deflects enough that it would touch the main floor. So to make sure my slide floor does not hit and tear my main flooring, I use slide-out sleds.

    I had a Geo Pro 16BH. The entire kitchen was in the slide, including the fridge. I bought it used and the previous owner hid the issues the Schwintek slide issue by repeatedly telling me the rig had to be 100% level before using the slide. He also had the slide deployed when I went to look at it, and had it retracted when I went to pick up the rig when I bought it. He again rambled about the leveling the rig 100% again. I was dumb by not operating the slide when I looked at it or picked it up. Had I done so, I'd have discovered the issue. I immediately started having issues with the slide. It NEVER operated correctly unless I used it in the morning when the temps were cool. In the heat of a summer day, it jammed up on one side every time. The previous owner never fixed the issue under warranty, so I was left with fixing it at high cost - the dealer wanted $2700+ to fix it. There was no way I was willing to spend that much money on the rig. I've never heard of the VROOM slide system before.

    What physically holds slide outs ( from all rv manufacturers) from dropping or bending down. Typically when something is cantilevered out you have supports underneath connected to a fixed support. The schwintek system has no load carrying capabilities. It just moves the box in and out. What supports the box when extended out?

  • @AllAboutRVs

    Good question and that is why there is a bit of a belly under the floor of the slide. All the weight is on the rollers that these plates sit on. The gears top and bottom and the walls are what I see give it sheer for strength. It then also presses the frame of the slide on the wall of the RV. It’s surprising there’s not more there to make it hold out there in that position.

Took it to a dealer and had it repaired with the replacement of the floor, replaced one end wall, and repaired the other end wall. Multiple times back and it still doesn't slide well. Saw your post and the repair that you made. Searched through many posts but didn't find any other repairs. Do you know of anybody who has made similar repairs, or do you think there is a chance I could install some HDPE plates to possibly make the slide function better? We have the same couch and 16cuft refrigerator in the slide, and the middle two feet (approximate) of the front edge makes contact with the floor when the slide is retracted. I've spoken to Joey at Vroom about the new sheet metal protectors as well, but I'm concerned if one of the sheets needs to be placed in that sagging area it will dig into the floor. We've successfully protected the floor with a thin carpet so far.
