Final fantasy XVI OST: Leviathan

With this dlc, FF XVI comes to a close. It definitely was a great departure from the usual turn based combat(I still love turn based combat) and it was a mainline game crafted from CB III. Also it was essentially a return to the series's thematic roots with it being themed around high medieval fantasy. As always the music was phenomonal, while there was some odd design choices that left a few questionable on how the game truly was. I can't wait for what they have in store for ff 17.

The OST at 7:17 is simply Godly. It's like the last hurrah of FF16. Almost Wagnerian in character. Ifrit and Leviathan.

Who else thinks the Eikon sections are like hack GU’s Avatar Battles combined with Asura’s Wrath? EDIT: Okay, with that unexpected Rasengan at the end, the guys at SE were feeling more inspired in CC2 than in Capcom/Platinum those days despite having people from the latter.

7:29 the theme of the very first trailer, actually in the base game this OST was not there, this makes me suppose that Leviathan had to be in the base game but they didn't know how to insert it

I read somewhere that Soken made the tune the leitmotif of the dlc, because it was so well-received and he had received many requests to add the trailer song to the game somehow.

@@TearsofaLunarian Yeah, his twitter was flooded with people asking where this song was in the game and eventually he responded to someone by saying that it was just made for the trailer but he'd "see what he could do" about getting it into the game. Shoutout Soken this is why he's the GOAT.

I feel like ffXVI could have been a 10/10 20 hour game but instead they stretched it with a lot of boring side content and even obligatory content that bogged the pacing a lot. I still liked it but IMO it's like a 7/10 game, hope they learn from this if they go for a similar style in ffXVII, and maybe focus more on the RPG elements again.

The main Square studios are never gonna make another classical RPG, they don't sell well relative to their action based titles and they already have side studios getting them money from the classic JRPG audience by making Octopath Traveler and Bravely Default. Sad state of affairs but it's the truth.

@@fahholliday5374 well I'm not saying it should be turn based, but something more RPG-like is totally doable. FFXVI was basically DMC

They should honestly just work on this engine and improve on it. Change the movesets give us more combo attacks and then more rpg elements they have a solid foundation they just need to work on it

I don’t remember Devil May Cry being like this. I find this is way more RPG like than DMC. Are you just referring to the combat? Can you provide me comparisons to how this is more DMC like and what elements are non RPG? I noticed the game has leveling up, item crafting, side quests, dungeons, and a plethora of RPG gameplay cliches. I wouldn’t even say the combat is as good as DMC’s. I also just can’t recall having long winded dialogue interactions with NPCs in DMC, either.

@@CrimsonWing100When people talk about RPG elements they usually refer to things that are related to gameplay systems, not stuff like dialogue.. dialogue quantity is actually pretty irrelevant to genres unless there's options and outcomes. As for XVI, there's leveling but it doesnt matter since the stat gains are minimal (you can be 20 levels down and beat the game on FF mode). There's gear but its scripted and locked behind story progression. There's no strategy such as elemental weaknesses. There's no variety in customisation. Lastly, they hired the DMC combat director for XVI in case it wasn't obvious from the gameplay.
